NGL: buying a piano is/can be nerve wracking--but after visiting the shop and playing the pianos IRL, I was put completely at ease--I didn't feel like I was being sold anything. Evan was very kind and knowledgeable and answered my gazillon questions ever so patiently. I literally went in and bought our beautiful new-to-us piano (sidenote: her name is Kawai) on my lunch break and prob would've stayed longer discussing music theory had it not been for the whole needing-to-continue-to-stay-gainfully- employed thing lol. I am in the market for a baby grand/grand piano. I visited Houston Piano Company (HPC) because a…read morefriend recommended this place. HPC was easy enough to find. It's tucked away a bit from the busy road, but you shouldn't have any problems. The parking lot was small. I visited on a Sunday afternoon so my car was the only car in the parking lot, but I was still thinking, "I better park in a way that I can easily backup or get out with my big SUV." The front door to the business was locked and you have to ring the doorbell. My first impression was, "it is wall-to-wall pianos. It was tight. There really was barely enough room to walk down the "aisle". Think of it as, if you're sitting at one of the pianos, people would have to jump over you like Super Marios Bros. style to get to the other side. They have more than one building and the other building wasn't as "tight". Our salesman, Larry, was quite knowledgeable. He asked us questions such as what we needed, price range, size, etc. He had us play on various pianos and explained to us the intricate details about each piano. Does Larry know pianos? Yes. Is Larry a salesman? Yes. We were in the market for a used piano, but they really didn't have used baby grands. Most of the used pianos were uprights. In the end, Larry helped us narrow our choices down to 3 pianos. Of course, the one that sounded the best was also the most expensive. In the end, we had to think about it. It is a big purchase and one that takes up a lot of physical space in your home so I urge everyone to sleep on this decision. What I appreciated about HPC is that they are knowledgeable about pianos. What I didn't appreciate was the fact they didn't tell me that the fancy piano I almost bought was not actually "German-made". It's made in China. Nothing wrong about Made in China, but if I'm spending this amount of money, I would like to know all the details. In the end, we decided to keep looking. Final verdict: I would not buy a piano from here.

This is by far, the BEST Steinway Piano only shop in Houston, Texas…read more I went there this afternoon to check it out and I was greeted with a warm welcome from Scott, my salesman. He was very helpful, enthusiastic, and opened to my questions. What is a plus is that he's been in the piano dealing business for nearly 20 years and know quite a lot about the other competitor brands. What I like about this place is that it's quiet, clean, and just makes me feel at home, that's the way every piano shop should be. Scott is also kind enough to give me advice and several helpful brochures about purchasing a Steinway Piano. I am pleased to shop here and hopefully I can buy a piano there in the near future. If anyone in Houston has a taste for Steinway Pianos and cannot find one in your regular piano shop, come over to Steinway Piano Gallery in the heart of River Oaks Community..You will not be disappointed!

It's understandable to a certain degree, these are elegant instruments worth a hundred grand easy, but wow. I was met with hostility from a staff member upon entering. I came in expecting to spend some time with some beautiful pianos and get to experience playing and trying some out, but was constantly berated by a particular staff member who was actively trying to get me to stop playing the pianos, asking me if I had an appointment and verbally telling me to stop playing for a minute. He then insulted my financial status by suggesting something in a lower price range. Eventually he came up with some story "We have appointments with customers in the next 5 minutes, so if you could wrap it up here, that would be great." He interrupted my playing numerous times and slyly kicked me out of the store and was a complete asshat! People like this make the world of music less enjoyable for all. Music is meant to be spread and rejoiced by everyone, not gatekeeped by snobs. The one star in this review is for the pianos only. It truly is tragic that these beautiful instruments must sit under the same roof as these rotten people.
