Dr. Cheung is incredibly patient, enthusiastic and clearly passionate about teaching. He takes the time to meet my son where he is which has made a big difference in both his confidence and consistency. My son has made leaps and bounds since starting lessons with him and it's been really rewarding to watch that progress. My son has had a few injuries from BJJ and wrestling and Dr. Cheung worked with him to adapt lessons so he could continue practicing using one hand. That level of support and problem solving meant a lot. One thing I especially appreciate about MACSA is how many opportunities they offer beyond weekly lessons. There are regular performance opportunities and competitions, which give students a chance to grow, build confidence and apply what they're learning in a meaningful way. The pianos the students get to practice on are also beautiful which adds to the overall experience and makes it feel even more special. It feels like a place that truly supports both skill development and a genuine love for music. I'm really glad we found it.

I had tried piano lessons 3 or 4 times before, but only learned to play a few songs before getting transferred with the military. I am now retired and plan to stay in San Antonio, so I am extremely happy I found a teacher as experienced and well-qualified as Irwin. I am a senior citizen, and although I didn't think I wanted to start with the basics, Irwin knew better and started me at the beginning. I have learned so much, and can actually read notes and the other symbols found in piano music - which I didn't think I could ever do. Irwin teaches kids of all ages, from 2 years old to 90+ years old, so he clearly knows how to handle all ages and all levels. I really like that he uses the Schaum series of piano books for his students, and I am proud to say I will be completing my 5th book and graduating from 2nd grade soon! Besides being an outstanding teacher, Irwin has led a most interesting life and enjoys sharing his adventures with his students - such as when he played at a piano bar for the stars in Hollywood. You can't go wrong taking piano lessons from Irwin; you will learn more than you ever thought possible.

Students have the option of learning piano/keyboard or guitar. Classes are laid back and not stressful. George walks from student to student instructing them on their lesson. He's patient and friendly. Most students are adults but I think kids would do well if they can sit still for an hour. Prices are really fantastic compared to any other place offering lessons. To me, the best part is coming to the classroom, focusing on the lesson and forgetting about anything else. It's an escape from everyday life and almost feels like therapy. I will stick around and take a few more months of lessons here and I will post an update, but so far, two thumbs up!

Correction to review to 5 stars as MACSA went above and beyond to make the situation right…read more My son had been attending MACSA over 2 years. Recently, he was in a car accident a couple days after the monthly draft. Due to his injuries, he is unable to complete his lessons for the indefinite future. MACSA has a two lesson cancellation policy, which is fine. However, we have paid for 4 lessons that he will be missing and he has no foreseeable way to make them up. They refuse to refund our money for the second two lessons based on their no refund policy. I think it's sad when a business puts their "policies" over people, especially in situations such these.

I had one lesson a week, and almost every single week it was rescheduled--either with a different instructor, at a different time, or on a different day because the owner wasn't available. If it had been a family emergency once or twice, I would have completely understood. Life happens. But this wasn't an occasional issue--it was nearly every single week. The final straw for me was when my lesson was canceled just three hours before it was supposed to happen because it was the owner's daughter's birthday. Birthdays aren't exactly unexpected, so getting that little notice was incredibly frustrating. It made me feel like my time as a paying customer wasn't being respected. I know I'm not the only person who's had this experience. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. If you're looking for consistency, professionalism, and respect for your time, I genuinely believe there are much better options
