Its not exactly the size of say, Virgin Active - but it has all the machines that you need for a good workout. On first glance, it's not a particularly girlie gym. There are definitely more men then women who go here, but it is far from intimidating if you are a girl and want to join. One of the best qualities of this gym, and what sets it apart from the big guns, is the way that the fees are structured. With big gyms it is difficult to get anything other than a 1 year contract, but here, you can buy daily passes, 1 month/3month and 6 month memberships as well as a yearly membership. Myles also provides 'low income' reduced rates for people who are students, au pairs, unwaged etc. Bodybuilders and fitness fanatics, you can also buy all your Reflex products here, such as nutritional supplements, meal replacement powders and protein and energy bars. I would join just so that I could have a permanent natter with Myles, but that would slightly defeat the purpose of joining a gym.

The gym area looks down onto it while the reception, bar and squash courts also have full view of the pool. The squash courts are great fun too, as is the golf course. So, if you get bored of the gym there's lots of other exercise options.

The hulaerobics class is also well worth a try even if you think you won't be able to hula hoop it is surprisingly easy to pick up (and a huge amount of fun). To be honest it doesn't really feel like exercise until the next day when your abs really feel like they have had a workout! The showers and changing rooms have always been clean and facilities such as the pool, sauna and jaccuzi make the place a bit more special.

The silver on the mirrors is peeling off on about a 1/3rd of the wall mirrors and the ceiling panels are all bent and marked. As for the equipment - Virgin are very much a 'free-weights' & 'Cables' only gym which can make it very difficult for people starting out, or those who are not dedicated gym goers. The free weights section is taken up by a group of bone-heads most nights so its very difficult to get on them - even when there are as few as 14 people in the gym.

It is fairly easy to get to on the 281 bus-just cross the road over the high way and walk to the gym. Some of the services they provide include: Health Checks, a pool, sauna, locker rooms and towels for its members. There are also a range of classes to choose from. In fact, I went to my first Zumba class in years and I really enjoyed it! The gym itself is equipped with the essentials-treadmills, weights, machines and a mat area etc. The locker rooms are of a good size with showers which have shower gels, toilets and a sauna. So far, I have been twice since I joined last Saturday and both days have not been very busy despite the fact that rugby players tend to go there a lot. As it is a family friendly centre, one may see some younger adults and children around the premises but all in all, it is quiet and a good gym. I have yet to use their pool so look out for updates!
