This review is for their ABA services only- their speech and OT have been amazing…read more TLDR: This office wasted almost a year of my time, bending over backward to refuse services and claim that a child with both ADHD and Autism has no behavior issues to work on. The only advice I have received in almost a year from their office regarding parent behavior training was to ignore the behavior and give him a chewie when he's stimming. Any early intervention time we could have had in a classroom setting is now wasted because this office has no idea what they're doing and refuses to provide the services they initially promised. It should not be this hard to get help for my child. On 5/20/2024, I requested for my son to be put on the waiting list for ABA therapy with Achieve Pediatric Therapy (he was already receiving Speech and OT at this location). At the time, I lived outside of their service area, but my mother lived near their office (within their zone) and would provide a location for his appointments. He also attended school within their zone. They initially refused to put him on the wait list - I had to persist for 4 days until they finally agreed. This should have been my first red flag. On 6/14/2024, I had my first meeting with Nija Cotten, the ABA manager who would oversee my son's ABA therapy. I discussed his behavior issues (large and small) and told her that most of his behaviors occurred in the preschool setting (he has been in the same preschool since 2021). I was very clear that I wished for his therapy to occur in the classroom setting to prepare him for kindergarten the next year. She was initially very reassuring, suggesting approximately 20 hours per week of ABA therapy, mostly in the school setting. He had his assessment and was approved by insurance on 8/18/24. Unfortunately, they did not know how to get approval for entry to a non-OCPS preschool (second red flag), so my son did not receive any in-school therapies for months but still received 4 hours per week in the home from an RBT. In November 2024, his RBT quit, and Brinnae Smith (his BCBA) suggested that he be discharged from services. I can only assume that the desire for his discharge was because of a staffing shortage, as he still had not received any therapy in the classroom setting and the at-home therapies stopped at this time. I had to push back again, as I was still receiving negative behavior reports almost daily from his school (elopement, hitting, and other attention-seeking behavior). They agreed to additional observations on 2 occasions, both of which resulted in findings of no behavior issues (even though Brinnae told his teacher "ok, now I see" during one of the observations). After multiple emails back and forth, documentation from both me and his teachers, and video evidence of behavior issues, Nija and Brinnae finally agreed on Jan. 20, 2025, to do daily observations for 30 days to try to find behaviors they can help with. These observations did not get approved until 3/4/25 and started on 3/5/25. 3 days into these daily observations (3/7/25), my son's preschool teacher overheard the observer stating that it was the chaotic nature of the preschool that caused his behavior problems, not his autism or ADHD. He has been in the same preschool for 4 years with the same schedule and routines. Additionally, the entire reason this office was hired was to assist him in managing his behaviors in stressful and chaotic environments, as school can often be. This was made very clear in the initial discussion and subsequent emails with his care team, and I feel that teaching him how to behave within a chaotic school setting is very clearly within the realm of their practice. On March 13, 2025, I had a meeting with Brinnae where she detailed several behaviors she believed rose to the level of needing intervention. She agreed to follow up in 2 weeks. I did not hear from her until April 23, 2025, where she told me that there were now no behaviors after all and she thought he should be dismissed from services. I agreed, as it was now plainly obvious that this office had no interest in helping my child. This office has done all it can to avoid providing the services they were hired to provide. In the (almost) year that my son has been in their care, he has only received at-home therapy 1 day a week for 3 months (approximately 48 hours) and 0 actual therapies in the classroom setting. The only parent training that I have received is to ignore his behavior and give him a chewie when he stims, despite bringing up other concerns. This office has squandered every moment of early intervention that my son could have had for his behaviors. It should not be this hard to get help for my child, and as such, we will be moving to a new practice where he will actually receive the help he needs.

To the Palm Garden of Orlando Team,…read more I, am writing this letter with sincere appreciation for the professional dedication, teamwork, supervision, compassion, and management oversight provided to my father, C.F. Mercado. Our journey with Palm Garden began in June 2024 at Palm Garden of Ocala. From the very beginning, I was deeply impressed with the level of care, professionalism, and compassion shown to my dad. When I learned there was a sister facility in Orlando that would allow him to be closer to me, I had absolutely no hesitation in approving the move. I felt confident that if Palm Garden of Ocala provided such exceptional care, then Palm Garden of Orlando would continue that same level of excellence, love, and dedication and you absolutely did. This letter is a special thank you to the entire Palm Garden of Orlando team. Greg, Executive Director -- thank you for your leadership, collaboration, communication, and personal engagement with me and my family throughout this journey. Melissa, Business Manager, thank you for your professionalism and support. Tatiana, Nursing Supervisor, thank you for your oversight and for ensuring that my father's needs were always addressed promptly and compassionately. Crystal, Maria, Berta, Mary, Arlene, and so many others were all together. Each of you made a lasting impact on my father's quality of life and on our family. Berta, oh my gosh -- thank you for always watching over Dad in the dining room, keeping him calm, engaged, occupied, and cared for during meals and activities. Mary, thank you for always keeping me straight regarding invoices, billing, and administrative matters. Congratulations on your promotion to Business Manager. It is truly well deserved. Arlene, I previously singled you out because of the incredible connection and interaction you had with my father. Your dedication to involving him in activities, social engagement, and helping keep his mind stimulated meant more than words can express. To the activities department, nutrition staff, CNAs, med techs, transportation staff, housekeeping team, therapy personnel, nurses, and every employee throughout the facility -- thank you. The facility was consistently clean, safe, organized, and welcoming. Whenever accidents or unexpected situations occur, housekeeping responded immediately and professionally. My father experienced many health challenges during his stay, and every issue was addressed with urgency, compassion, professionalism, and teamwork. I especially appreciated the quarterly care meetings / virtual conferences where the interdisciplinary team reviewed his medications, nutrition, weight management, eating percentages, therapy progress, and overall health condition. Those meetings demonstrated true coordination and patient-centered care. I also personally shared meals with my father at the facility, and I can honestly say the quality of the meals was outstanding. Thank you for taking care of Dad's daily needs -- his hygiene, dressing, comfort, safety, transportation to outside specialty appointments, and most importantly, his dignity. The drivers and transportation personnel were always caring, respectful, and dependable. Most importantly, over the course of two years between both Palm Garden facilities, I cannot recall a single moment where I witnessed an employee being rough, impatient, disrespectful, uncaring, or lacking empathy toward a resident. That says everything about your culture, leadership, and people. I have zero complaints. Zero. For anyone reading this externally and considering care for a loved one -- this is the place. You can close your eyes, knowing your loved one will be safe, cared for, respected, and treated like family. Palm Garden truly makes residents feel at home. My father has now transitioned to a specialized memory care facility where his advanced needs and secure environment requirements can be better managed, but Palm Garden of Orlando will always hold a special place in our hearts. I know you miss my dad, and our family certainly miss all of you as well. Thank you again for your love, compassion, professionalism, and dedication. God bless each and every one of you. With sincere gratitude, Charlie Felix
