When my Mom's illnesses began to cause her a great deal of pain and discomfort, my brave Mom wanted to look into legal options of taking control of her 'end-of-life'. Her current hospice was not able to assist with her request. The national organization Compassion & Choices referred us to Mid Valley Hospice. Mid Valley arranged to meet my Mom immediately. Within 3 days she began the 15 day process that would grant her the peace that she wanted. From start to finish our relationship with Mid Valley Hospice was professional and responsive. Each time I called the office, the team members I spoke to were all aware of my Mom's case and worked together to meet her needs. She loved everyone who came to the house from the woman who gave her showers to the nurse checking vitals and meds. She especially appreciated Dr. Nelson, and said he was so kind and gentle. My special favorites were the owner, Anna, lovely Chelsea and dear Francis. They were my long distance confidants who helped me manage my Moms care from my home 90 minutes away. I thank Mid Valley Hospice sincerely for all they have done for my family.

My grandmother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and our family was faced with many difficult decisions. Thankfully, Mid Valley Hospice was there to help. After speaking with Ana, she immediately understood what we needed and did everything to made sure that my grandmother was comfortable and properly looked after as if it was her own family member. That's something that put the family at ease knowing she was in the hands of compassionate professionals who went above and beyond to make her last moments on Earth as comfortable as possible. They are one of my favorite facilities to work with in the community. Several visits I had, I would watched the nurses care and service their patients during my assessments. I was very impressed with their patiences and ease. When a patient has dementia, they can get frustrated and yell and the nurses were so amazing at re-directing and helping the patient calm down. From my knowledge, the nursing staff have been at the facility for 10 years+. All nurses are trained on high acuity patients, including dementia. I've worked with Bridgitte, social services and she has been great at coordinating placement assessments quickly and efficiently. I am able to visit several patients at one time and even jump on a call to talk to families of potential assisted livings. We have been able to help patients move to new beginnings in a more home like setting and out of a hospital atmosphere. I highly recommend Stoney Point for families that need a secured facility for their loved ones. The care is excellent, the facility is clean and well maintained. The nurses have compassion and care for each patient there. Maria the Admissions Director, can answer all your questions and is always available to help anytime. She has a big heart and loves all her patients. I know 3 years ago, a new management company took over and there has been so many great changes. I Just wanted to share my experience working with Stoney Point from an outside perspective. I do recommend touring the nursing home when looking for a loved one and seeing it for your own eyes.

Which made no sense because I had just spoken with her and reminded her of the conversation - but apparently "so many people walked in" when there were just 2 patients waiting.... that they took all the "appointments" available for the day. Don't waste your time or money going here. As a business, please be more direct with patients as no one likes wasting their time especially when going to urgent care.

Instead, the entire experience felt disorganized and unprepared. It appeared that the necessary supplies and materials were not readily available, which caused delays and added stress to an already difficult situation. Rather than first focusing on controlling the bleeding and comforting a frightened child, substances were applied directly to the open wound, causing my son significant pain and distress. He was crying, and I felt that very little effort was made to show empathy, patience, or reassurance during the procedure. I was also concerned by the way the wound was managed and the difficulty in applying the dressing. As a parent, it was upsetting to watch my child suffer while feeling that his comfort and well-being were not a priority. Medical care should include professionalism, kindness, patience, and respect--especially when treating children. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.

I made the difficult decision to remove my mother from this facility shortly after she arrived for…read morerehabilitation following knee-replacement surgery. I simply did not feel that her safety, dignity, and recovery needs would be properly supported. My mother needed help standing, walking with a walker, and getting to the bathroom safely. Instead, we were told that a walker would not be readily available and that staff would not assist her with getting up to use the restroom. The alternative presented to us appeared to be leaving her in diapers. For someone who had just undergone knee surgery and was sent there specifically to regain mobility and independence, this was deeply troubling. We were also asked to sign a consent form concerning sleeping medication at night. While I understand that medications may sometimes be medically appropriate, given the other concerns we were already experiencing, I was not comfortable agreeing to anything without clearer explanations and reassurance. The most heartbreaking part of my visit was seeing other vulnerable patients asking me a complete stranger for water because they said staff had not brought them any. When I informed a staff member, the response I received was that they did not need water. Watching elderly and dependent patients plead for such a basic necessity was something I could not ignore. I understand that every family may have a different experience, and I can only speak about what I personally saw and was told during my mother's time there. However, what I witnessed was serious enough that I could not leave her in their care. A rehabilitation facility should help patients safely rebuild their strength, confidence, and independence while protecting their basic dignity. Unfortunately, that was not the environment I observed. If your loved one is being considered for this facility, please visit in person and ask very specific questions about access to walkers, bathroom assistance, hydration, medication policies, staffing, hygiene, and the actual rehabilitation schedule. Pay close attention, and do not be afraid to advocate for them. I am thankful that I was present and able to bring my mother home. My heart remains with the patients who may not have family nearby to speak up for them.

The nurses didn't provide any guidelines in terms of what to expect, look out for or anything along those lines. My mom ended up passing away the day we started hospice. I fear we would have been better off on our own.
