His office is not busy or crowded, you don't have to wait long to see him and there is ample street parking. Overall makes for a very low-stress, nice enjoyable doctor's visit. The office tried to charge me again since they claim they coded my last visit as an office visit and not as a physical. I was very firm that I shouldn't be asked to pay twice for something that should have been done in one visit, and that it is up to them to code correctly. The receptionist / nurse told me, I quote: "OK, whatever." I am really annoyed because I am sure I'm going to have to call my insurance company to straighten this situation out. Total waste of time, totally stressful experience. I can hardly imagine an office run any worse than that. It really deserves ZERO STARS.

Porges is located at…read more1999 Marcus Ave. in Lake Success, LI, NY and is at least one of the best and most compassionate rheumatologists available. I have been treated by him during the last year and while it may be difficult to get an initial appointment with him as a new patient I was able to get a "same day" appointment just today for an acute gout attack. Should you have the unfortunate need for rheumatology treatment queue up for Dr. Porges and count on excellent an compassionate medical attention.

My boyfriend didn't think I should write this, but I felt like it was necessary to inform people of this because a review isn't exactly relevant if you can't use it... Like if someone wrote a review of a restaurant and then it becomes a very exclusive club.. even if the reviews are favorable, I would rather someone inform me of the new situation and save me the trouble or embarrassment of being denied admission. I checked in and began filling out paperwork. I completed the paperwork and had a seat directly in front of reception. 15 minutes passed, then 30, then 45, at the 1 hour mark I approached the receptionist and told her that I'd been waiting an hour for my appointment. She appeared very confused, despite the fact that I'd been sitting in front of her the entire time. She asked a nurse/medical assistant (??) who was standing near by about the status of my appt. and she informed her that I would be next. I was indeed called about 5 minutes later. The same assistant took my vitals. She was brusque and unfriendly. When Dr. Larson came in she was very apologetic about the wait. There had been some sort of miscommunication and she had not realized that I was at the office. Anyway- I appreciated her apology. We began discussing my medical history, and, to be honest, Dr. Larson seemed overwhelmed. In the middle of my sentence she asked me to "stop, so I can think for a minute." Frankly, I found that really strange. That being said, she was quite thorough. She addressed my asthma in a number of ways and called me with the results of my blood work just hours after I'd left the office. Certainly a record for speed! However, there was an uncomfortable exchange between the doctor and the bad-attitude medical assistant I mentioned before. It was weird and I felt awkward about it. Also- she looked at my engagement ring and exclaimed "Oh my god! Your ring is huge! What does your husband do?!" That made me a bit uncomfortable, to be honest. Anyway- there were pros and cons here, still deciding if she will be my doctor going forward, or if I will try something new.

Research online proved me right. 2 days of not eating before hand and 8 (!) Ducolax tabs is definitely overboard. I also waited over an hour for my scheduled colonoscopy which feels like about 4 hours when you are hungry from not eating for two days, thirsty from not having water all morning and VERY cranky. On the other hand, he has done over 18k colonoscopies in his career and seems very knowledgeable in an old school and experienced way (and that almost makes me want to give him four stars), but this overall experience was not for me. Now, if you theres poop in your colon, well the doctor has a higher chance of missing something. That's just a straight forward, non medical, no nonsense fact. Having a 2 day prep vs 1 day prep, there is no real scientific proof that one is superior to the other (as far as current data - meaning there could be a significant finding, but not experimented on as of yet). Now this is a guy who has done, "18 K" procedures.... even if its not established that 2 day prep is greater than a 1 day prep, I think I might be inclined to believe his experience. And the poster said he waited only 1 hour but it felt like 4... in the end it was only 1 hour. This is the thing with yelp that bugs me, there will only be reasonable places out there that some d bags decided to focus on a mild flaw. Jeesh, ps rating doctors on yelp is lame. Its for businesses people. ps - not a doctor, but am a researcher and yes I did have a colonoscopy here and no complaints. No one is going to die if they don't eat for two days.

Jackie, Karen and Taryn are a delight. What truly let me know how amazing Dr. Kobren is, was how he treated me during my pregnancy. I unfortunately had an emergency C Section and I can't tell you enough that Dr. Kobren's knowledge, professionalism and care meant the world to my husband and I in our scariest times. He may seem like he is taking care of you fast or quickly addressing your concerns but that is because of his vast knowledge and expertise. He does not need to hear a whole dragged out story. He is beyond knowledgeable. As a healthcare worker myself and have been in the OR as a Radiographer I know a capable and confident Surgeon. Dr. Kobren is just that, from the moment he arrived to Winthrop he took command of the room and advocated for me as his patient and first priority. I felt calmer having someone like him by my side. Instead, he repeatedly PUSHED additional unnecessary tests that kept coming back negative rather than reassessing my concerns. Each visit felt disorganized, and he often suggested repeating exams that were already done. The office was equally frustrating. They somehow billed insurance I haven't had years, which led to nearly $500 in incorrect OUT OF POCKET charges. My current insurance had to contact them directly to fix their billing errors multiple times, and the staff proves to be incompetent each time. My birth control prescription which I've been on for 18 years , which had already been approved was repeatedly DENIED by the office. I had to call multiple times just to receive medication that was already prescribed?? I spoke with DR KOBREN PERSONALLY and he stated it was sent to the pharmacy. My pharmacy states it was denied. This occurs every 1-2 months for some reason. When you try to contact the office it's impossible to hear back. To top it off, I recently found out I have uterine fibroids. Unfortunately, they were never identified here. The combination of missed diagnosis, unnecessary testing, billing errors, and repeated prescription issues has been extremely disappointing. I have since transferred my care elsewhere. This place is a joke and I wouldn't recommend any woman to be seen here.
