I am so appreciative of Dr. Kristina Hibshman. As a woman in my forties, navigating the changes in hormones has been frustrating. Physicians & Midwives asked me to leave the a review DIRECTLY with them as my 'feedback matters' to them. It's now a week later and not a peep from them so here we go leaving a PUBLIC review: I have been a very loyal customer to Physicians and Midwives for about 8-10 years now. Unfortunately I have not had great experiences over the last three or four years. I had my first IUD inserted around 2017 which worked out great. Five years go by and it was time for a replacement. After about a year I informed my GP that I am still having periods at age 53 which she immediately ordered a sonogram to find out what's going on in there. The sonogram showed that my IUD was positioned 'unusually low' and had to be removed. At that point it was questionable if I should replace the IUD or leave it out since I was so close to menopause. A blood test was ordered and it was determined that my chances of getting pregnant was very low. However, I continued to have menstrual cycles every month for over a year. Concerned I returned to P&W to have another IUD put in. It was also recommended that the insertion include a "guided ultrasound" to ensure placement was correct. Note: The ultrasound was not covered by my insurance company but I gladly paid the $348.76 bill so I can rest assured the IUD would be placed properly. A few weeks later I returned for my follow up visit to find out the IUD was coming out and, for the second time, had to be removed due to poor placement. At the time of my follow up no one in this office could answer any of my questions about why any of this was happening to me - why I'm still cycling at age 55, why the IUD can't seem to get placed properly, or what other options I had for proper IUD placement. I was only offered sketchy answers and hormonal birth control which is exactly what I was trying to get off of 8-10 years ago when I had my first IUD inserted. Hormonal birth control was causing other side effects that I wanted to avoid and I am absolutely opposed to getting back on them. I don't understand why this office of highly experience professionals can't seem to insert the IUD properly even with the guided sonogram. I don't understand why I paid $348.72 for an IUD that only lasted a few weeks or why I should even return or recommend this office to others. I am completely dissatisfied and would like to, at the very least, have my money refunded to me but i doubt that's going to happen since they won't even respond to me. Very disappointed with my experience here and will not be returning. read more

After coming here for over 30 years I have to find a new OBGYN provider. How can you trust a provider who calls you in August to tell you your May test results require a biopsy? From May through August they continuously sent me notifications to review test result saying the same thing I saw last year which led me to believe I had no problems. In August they FINALLY call me to inform me that I need a biopsy. THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR HEALTH! read more

"It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice." I can agree with one of the reviews below: one of the worst front office staff at Kenmore I have ever witnessed. Very rude. I was told my insurance was accepted weeks before my appointment (by my insurance and the office). As soon as I walk into the appointment, I was told they do not accept my insurance (the DAY of my appointment). The front office lady would not help me and told me to call billing while sitting in the office. I left without seeing any doctor and will not be back. This place is your typical business...all they want is your "money" ("huge bill") and they don't care how they treat you. Once again, we don't need to think we are so important that we don't help others in need/be kind to them. Very sad. I will tell others not to go to this place. read more

The worst front office individual staff at Kenmore Alexandria location!!! My experience of what happened to me: My appointment was scheduled for 3:40 p.m. on 6/3/2025. I have encountered the most unprofessional and unacceptable behavior from your front office staff, Chaverne. I had signed in to the Express Check-in at approximately 3:28 p.m., as there was a lady taking a long time making appointments with Charene. After waiting for about 10 minutes, I went to the front desk where a staff member, Chaverne had her phone halfway under the desk and was texting. I asked her if she could confirm if I was all checked in since my appointment was rapidly approaching. She stated to me, "If you checked in and got confirmation, you should be good to go". She couldn't be bothered to check and confirm for me. It was as if I were bothering to do her job and assist. Several minutes later, I am sitting in the lobby, and I receive a phone call from her stating I am late and missed my appointment. I said no, I have been here and was here early for my appointment.  I was not aware that the express check-in was only for Blood Work appointments. Rather than her checking to confirm my apt when I asked her to,  she faulted me. P.S. This is not my job, nor do I work here to know this. This could have all been handled and avoided had she checked my check-in when I asked her. In the end I didn't get in my apt and had to reschedule and take more leave off from my work . This was the most disrespectful and unprofessional experience I have encountered. This staff member needs significant training and a review of their attitude. Possibly a different career would be best for her. read more

REVIEW FOR CNM ERICA LYBARGER ONLY. I can't attest to other folks here because I do not have experience with them. I love CNM Lybarger!! She's so knowledgeable and has impeccable bedside manner. Being Latina and growing up without much sex ed made me a bit nervous about visiting a GYN to begin with. Thankfully, Dr. Lybarger has been phenomenal in explaining the process, guiding me through it, and following up with any next steps needed. What more can I ask from a physician EVER! She provides such an incredible honor to the practice and I wish all physicians were like her. I've had full blown MDs provide far inferior service. Thank you Dr. Lybarger! I'm not a fan really. I've been going to P&M for years now and I'm finally ready to move on to a better OBGYN. Some of the doctors were decent but they seemed to always move on from P&M. So I kept having appointments with new OBs & some had terrible bedside manner. Some front desk employees & nurses too just not friendly. I got tired of retelling my concerns to new doctors.. ahh maybe read my past appointment notes prior to my appointment? I drew the line at my last appointment when the doctor basically gaslit me. I'm ready to find a doctor who is a person of color who can take my health concerns seriously and not cause me anxiety. When I am ready to have kids, I'll be sure not to return... read more

I wasn't going to leave this review but after thinking through my experience, I think it's important to speak up for prospective patients who might be seeking a provider for PCOS or related issues. All I'm going to say is that if you're looking for doctors who will patiently hear your questions, be understanding, give holistic approaches to your PCOS -- don't come here. They'll just suggest birth control and send you on your way. My questions about birth control were met with extreme skepticism. I felt pretty much pressured into accepting a prescription for it even though I knew it's not right for me. It really felt like the doctor couldn't care less about figuring out other options. And as an aside.. the bedside manner of the particular doctor I met with was not great at all. No pleasantries, no background questions, not even a "hi." As most women will know, when you're at the OB/GYN for an exam the *last* thing you need is a cold, unfriendly doctor. When I was leaving, I heard her greet another patient in a MUCH more friendly way, saying "good to see you, how are you, etc." It actually upset me very much because I'm not sure why she was so unfriendly with me. I've since found a dedicated startup company that focuses on treating women with PCOS and so far my experience has been positive. I've learned that if a doctor isn't okay with you asking questions about your health, they're not the right fit for you. I've also learned that this is not an uncommon experience for women with PCOS, which gave me the courage to write this review. I don't want to go to an OB/GYN where I feel I have to advocate for myself because the doctor couldn't care less. I'm sharing this review for others and also so the practice can work on meeting patient needs better in the future. read more

I absolutely dread going in for an annual visit to the OB just as much as the next person but Kathleen Bell eased my worries from the second she walked in the door. Her presence made me feel so comfortable , I was able to express my concerns without any judgement. The waiting area is quite nice and I love that they're still enforcing social distancing. The inside rooms and hallways are on the smaller size but it wasn't overcrowded so still easy to navigate. Also, I love that they give you pink cloth robes. For the first time in my life I didn't have to wear a disposable gown that doesn't even fit. read more

Please be very, very careful if you are going to use this practice. While my experience may differ from what yours will be, it was horrific. I came into my pregnancy understanding the poor state of maternal health in this country and was seeking empathetic, reasonable care that wouldn't jump to conclusions or push me unnecessarily into induction. This practice was an utter failure for me in so many ways, but just highlighting a few examples in case it's helpful for your decision making. I was forced into an induction because the practice determined my baby was too large. When I pointed out how unreliable calculating a baby's weight was and cited several research studies, I was lied to by two doctors and told their scales were accurate and if anything, my baby would be larger than their estimate. Of course that wasn't true and my baby came about 2 pounds under their "estimate." Their error forced an induction, and you guessed it, an unnecessary c-section. I knew it was all nonsense, but felt really taken advantage of during a late stage in my pregnancy when I decided to follow a doctor's wishes and not go with what I knew was the right choice. It's clear in my case, the practice was more concerned with avoiding a one in million chance of lawsuit than providing personalized, appropriate care. My labor experience, combined with multiple visits where it was clear the provider only wanted to point out my weight and age (yes thanks, I know) and not provide other care - or even follow-up on important details brought up during previous visits - is an experience I will never forget and the biggest regret of my pregnancy. The icing on the cake was when I had a laughable 4-minute check-up post c-section where the provider wanted to prescribe me birth control (no check of stomach separation, no internal exam, or any other standard care) and send me on my way. I hope if you choose this practice you get better care, but I would stay clear if you are older, bigger, or have any condition this practice my consider a liability. read more

Nurse Edgerton is simply AMAZING! I am so happy to have found her and making her my provider for my care. She answers all my questions and I never feel rushed during my appointment. Great OB/GYN office! I have been a patient for 2 years now, including one pregnancy. I have never received anything less than a great experience from the receptionists, medical assistants, nurse practitioners/ midwives, and the OBs. Kathleen Bell NP, Rebecca Tuteral CNM, Michelle Powers CNM, and Dalisa Gutters NP were amazing during my pregnancy/ postpartum; just to name a few. I would say that the ultrasound techs were not the friendliest... Physician & Midwives has a patient portal that makes it easy to contact the providers and schedule appointments. Last but not least I never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time before being seen. Highly recommend for all Obstetrics and gynecology needs. read more

The Physician and MidwifePractice ( I was a patient in the office located in Alexandria, VA) will leave you without care if you are in need/ if you have non pregnancy related emergency. This practice lacks empathy and sensitivity when dealing with women and their needs. They do not even inform the patient when their OBGYN leaves the practice. I've been coming here for a very long time and love this practice, but I have a favorite now - Dr. Tina Falika King! Early this year I had an ectopic pregnancy and Dr. King took excellent care of me. She specializes in high risk pregnancies, so I knew I was in good hands.I was really devastated and distressed and she was very caring, understanding and very knowledgeable. She did an amazing job too at explaining things to me. I really felt like it was a good friend taking care of me instead of a stranger. I can't imagine going through this with another doctor. Anyway, here are all the reasons I love them: -All the doctors are super nice -I'm able to schedule appointments online -Last minute appointments are usually available -Free parking and plenty of parking -Barely no waiting time - my entire appointments don't even take a full hour -Clean office/modern -Lab is inside the office (don't need to go to another location) -Online patient portal is a plus It's rare to find a doctor's office that runs this smoothly and efficient. Oh yeah, I usually go to the Alexandria office. Sometimes the Arlington, but Alexandria is super close to me. read more

Ok sit back" To which I greeted her and introduced myself. She was not gentle and didn't bother to say goodbye as she left the room. I am relieved and thankful to have found this practice. Every moment from checking in with the medical receptionist to my appointment was seamless, professional, and pleasant. Yes, even on a late Friday afternoon. I am in my mid-20's. Up until this point, I have not worked with a doctor that has given me care, education, and empowerment. Melissa Torres made me feel very comfortable and respected. It was like having a conversation with a friend. She gave me in depth information about contraceptives and was patient allowing me time to decide what is best for me. I left with more knowledge and feeling truly supported. Do NOT go here if you care about your physical (and financial) health. I was told an exam they recommended was "preventative, so it will be covered" (these words exactly) only to find out after-the-fact that I owe $300 not covered by my insurance because it was, in fact, NOT preventative. Not only that, but the exam itself was incredibly rushed, my questions were shut down and not answered by the doctor, and I left not having a semblance of understanding of my health, potential risks to my health, or any next steps/follow up. This is suspicious behavior to have front desk workers/nurses push patients to take exams that the doctor themself clearly does not think is important enough to fully explain to you, especially when it is not covered by insurance. I've had better experiences at their different locations but needless to say this is going to be my last visit to Physicians & Midwife. BTW I still don't understand why I took the exam in the first place, and have 0 understanding of what the results mean LOL. great doctoring, folks! read more

They take their time at each appointment and make me feel heard and understood. I LOVE this office. It's only my second visit with NP Grey but I know I'll be back to see her in the future. She listens, offers great advice, and she does it all with a smile. She's great! The office itself makes scheduling EXTREMELY convenient, even down to filling out new paperwork online before your appointment. The front desk receptionists and nurses are always friendly. I only go in the morning but when I'm there parking is always easy to find.
