On 09/08/2025, after trying a free session, I signed a contract with these folks. When I returned a few days later for my first paid session, I noticed two things: a huge wooden cross mounted directly over my head and then, a warm up Jesus Hip Hop tune. After less than one minute of "training" I explained that this wasn't my cup of tea. There is a collection on my credit now, which, of course, I will never pay . We had the worst customer service experience here. This business feels extremely money-driven, with little regard for the well-being of its students. I signed up my four kids in February '25, but unfortunately, my 13 year old son suffered a serious injury in March '25 and was hospitalized at Phoenix Children's Hospital for 17 days. His recovery required months of physical therapy and follow-up appointments, and he wasn't medically cleared until October '25. Because of this, I reached out to Matt Numrich and his wife Stephanie right away to request cancellation, knowing we wouldn't be able to participate for a long time. I was told that wasn't an option due to the contract, and we were still required to pay $596 per month regardless of attendance. During this already difficult time, payments that didn't go through immediately were met with repeated texts and emails about declined charges. There was no willingness to pause, adjust, or show any flexibility despite our situation. We fulfilled the full one-year contract but did not step foot back in the dojo after March '25. They received every payment, yet showed no compassion or consideration during a very challenging season for our family. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The approach here feels more focused on money than on supporting their students. If I could give them a ZERO, I would!!!!! They don't deserve the 1 star!!! read more

All I can say, based on my own experience is: read the fine print on the contract & hope nothing bad happens that causes you to need to freeze your membership. If you do have an emergency (I was hospitalized & needed multiple surgeries) they require a 30day notice before any payment freeze & charges will continue through your emergency for those 30 days regardless. UPDATE: Months later these people are still sending emails & went so far as to send physical items to our address. I've since sent a cease & desist email in response. We already left the school after a negative experience, what sort of people continue sending ads after all that? read more

I've greatly enjoyed my time at PHX Krav Fit - Matt & Stephanie are wonderful individuals, as well as instructors. It's apparent this is their life's work and passion - that energy is infectious in a very positive way in the classes. The entire staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. There's a great ratio of instructor/staff to students in class, so you get as much individual support as you need. I started going to better learn how to defend myself primarily - in addition to that in the last 6 months I've been prepared & pushed to do more than I would've thought I was even capable of previously. They've been extremely accommodating and understanding as I had to work through (an unrelated) injury - helping me adapt the moves and exercises to what I was able to do without missing additional class time. I'm just wrapping up my first term with them, and I've renewed for a second. In just 6 months there's been tremendous progress for me in both endurance and technique. My wife and I have been part of the Krav Fit family for years. We are now level 5 and love the training and great people we meet. We attend at least three times a week and have greatly improved our self-defense and stay in great shape. Matt, Stephanie, and the staff are the best. I often recommend people come to try out classes. It takes commitment and you will be physically challenged so it is not for wimps. I was looking for a legitimate self-defense/martial arts training program. After studying other systems like Kempo and Defensive Tactics (a system for law enforcement), I am very happy to have found Matt and Stephanie at PHX Krav Fit. This is practical training and an intense workout. Recognize that there is a balance between techniques and workouts, and beginner classes lean more towards workouts. As a student progresses higher, the focus shifts more toward techniques. This is a practical approach. Krav Maga was designed as a combat system, so the curriculum may not always fit what all students are likely to encounter. I would recommend anyone to stop in and check it out. Maybe it's just me that finds humor in reviews complaining about a fitness focused self defense program that *literally* has the word FIT in the business name. Maybe they thought it implied you can get your clothes tailored while you learn some krav. Who knows. I've been attending for 3 months now. The owners are on site 24/7, they're responsive helpful people and take care to ensure everyone works at a pace appropriate for their skill level. Because it's a group setting, you can't expect 1:1 attention, of course. There are always at least 4 people in every class that help teach form and also to make sure nobody is left behind. I've lost 10 pounds going 3x a week. I've also learned some krav... So I'm getting what I paid for. If I want some bare knuckle brawl training I'll go look for a place that says bloody knuckles in the business name... PS I had a health issue come up and they were very accommodating. Not sure why people expect a business to operate like a charity, but that's the world we live in now. read more

I agree with the bad reviews left and would NEVER recommend to anyone this business. Both of my kids hated going there so I did not make them go anymore. Instead, my entire family now attends Gracie JJ in Scottsdale since: Gracie is a more structured, long established by their history, and trustworthy system, it is not an erratic and loud environment, and it is a more meaningful and rewarding learning platform. Owner Matt does not teach at all rather he has students teach you; I have not ever seen him teach one class when I used to take my kids. Owner and his wife address people as part of their family and use psychology to lure and keep paid members, so do not fall for their manipulation since it is exactly like paying to belong to a Matt cult. This place is a scam, do not sign up with a membership, and run as far away from them as you can (you will be glad you did). This business is unethical & crooked. They only care for themselves. I signed up for a free month all I needed to do was pay for my gloves & t-shirt. Immediately they have started to charge me $60 a week. I know it's my fault for not reading what I signed but I had been told something completely different. I have formally sent written 3 cancellation letters & they keep charging me. I was unable to afford my medications because of the overdraft fees on my acct from this monster! Run far far away! My son has autism and was not able to attend the classes. The owner and staff harassed him about payment for months...totally relentless. I cannot believe that he can sleep at night after harassing someone with a disability AND a doctor's note. I dont know the owner but it appears that he cares more about the money than the people. Agree with an earlier review that the classes are fine. They are focused more on fitness than form or self defense technique. The hours are limited and the owner is inflexible. I attended for almost a year and decided to cancel after my 12 month contract. It's now been 4 months after my contract ended and I cannot get the billing to stop nor can I get a refund on the past 4 months. Go try another fitness school for a better customer experience. Five stars means something is perfect in my book, I don't really rate anything that high. That said, I enjoy it immensely but here is my pro and cons. I hope it helps you make a decision. Pros: You can try the classes for free and it really is no strings attached. The school is a great work out and fun environment to learn in. The staff and students are friendly and ready to answer your questions. There are lots of seminars and various out of class activities to take part in. It's fairly priced and gives you multiple class times each week to attend. Great stress reliever and they will teach what they promised. The school uses levels instead of belts and they won't progress you forward just because you asked nicely or waved a $100 bill in their faces which is nice to see in this participation trophy world we live in. Cons: Emphasis is placed on the workout aspect and form tends to suffer as there isn't much time to correct the technique before the next drill starts (45 minute sessions). Classes are mostly in the weekday evenings and Saturday mornings (tough for night shift and weekend workers to attend). You will get gimmicky emails for 'special offers' and 'one second self defense moves' as well as things to buy (you can opt out of them and I realize everyone needs to make a buck - I also realize everyone is at a different skill level and just because I don't find something useful doesn't mean someone else wouldn't appreciate it.) The gimmicky emails sometimes make the school seem a bit disingenuous even though the instruction really is a good product. Other than an hour and some sweat it won't really cost you anything to give it a try and find out for yourself. read more
