Usually I would just hire them as I need them, but I realised I was starting to use them quite a bit so decided purchasing them would be better for me in the long run. When I walked in I was greeted really nicely by the dude working there and he pretty much asked me straight away what I was looking for because I was the only customer in there. He was so helpful, I told him what I was planning on doing with each product and he gave me the best ones for the job, not the most expensive ones either which I appreciated as it showed he wasn't just looking to make money. I came out with a great little soft-box and a handsfree remote all for around $150 which may sound expensive, but when it comes to photography gear this was pretty darn cheap.

There's no more bubbles, fingerprints and dust on my phone screen because they're absolute pros at it. It's even cheaper than other places which I love. They also have a great range of electronic products. There's cameras, phones, tablets and whole lot more. And they're all at great prices. A lot of people buy their iPhones here as they're often a bit cheaper than other stores. You can't go on a plan though but if you're going to buy the phone outright this is the place to go. The cameras there are great too. Again the same product for a whole lot cheaper. The staff are super friendly which makes such a difference too.

I rarely think babies are cute, as most just look like tiny Winston Churchills, but this baby does not. This same spirit of rad transfers over to this shop. Jan is remarkably honest: "Why do you want to get that film developed?" "I wanted to try out this old (110) film, see what it's like" "You know you could do the same thing with your phone. It's no good this film, too small." It probably won't surprise you to know that they're actually very good printers, and do things at a good price: $15 for 24 exposures developed and printed. They also process wacky film types that the chain places would baulk at. Jan told me once that people drive from the North Shore to bring her film; I would believe it. Plus she is too honest to tell fibs.

No. 1 Mart is located in the biggest building of SouthPoint, Manukau's newest complex of stores…read more I've been to SouthPoint so many times and never actually noticed No. 1 Mart until recently. It's a massive store but it's not as full of stock as you'd expect it to be. They do have a semi-interesting range of giftware, costumes and novelty items. They've got about half a wall full of gift bags and tonnes of crepe and tissue paper (I'm a sucker for wrapping and packaging presents!). That was probably the only part of the store I was really interested in. The prices are fairly low and that location is great for picking up that last-minute item for a gift. Otherwise there's nothing to differentiate No. 1 mart from any other dollar store. Hope they pick their game up though- the store is massive and they could stock it with some awesome stuff if they wanted to.

They have an amazing selection of fake flowers here which look really good and aren't a rip off like the ones in home décor stores. I always buy my fake eyelashes from here too, really good selection and again really great looking and fab quality. My boyfriend likes their selection of lighters here, especially their Zippo inspired ones! It's part of the shopping complex on the corner of Valley and Dominion Rd so it's got great free parking (always deserves a mention). Such an amazing kids toy section here too they even have beautiful hand painted maracas for $2 and they would make such great gifts. I also always buy my pet paraphernalia from here too they have doggie poop bags that are pink with paws on them...so cool as well as pet bowls, leads and toys! Love this shop to death.

It's a photographer's dreamland. It's great for the amateur photographer too as they have a wide range of cheap cameras to the very, very high end of the scale for the more professional people. The staff are super helpful and know so much about cameras. It's a great place to go if you're looking for a camera but don't know where to start. They'll help you figure out exactly what you need and the kinds of cameras you should be looking at. I bought my 5D body second hand from here and it has lasted me so well with no issues yet! But even if there was an issue I wouldn't be worried as the staff here have excellent contacts and ideas when it comes to fixing Canon products. The staff are so great, they really know what they are talking about, I could chat with them for ages about new products and old faithful ones and everything in-between.
