One could say that clearly remembering anything at Burning Man is a testament to her indelible presence. We played back to back on the same stage one morning and I became quickly mesmerized by her solo show as she plucked and preened and posed and pontificated. I hope she never discovers that my fascination had me near stalking her from venue to venue all that week, hiding in the crowds in whatever obfuscatory ensemble I could procure. (Which may be how I came to be so comfortable in women's clothing but that's another chapter altogether) Her lilting and playful voice which highlights lyrics and melodies unpredictable in portent from heavy to lovelorn, or frivolous and teasing, Half the time I can't even tell what she's singing about because it's in french or swahili but I have no desire to leave the floor until every incomprehensible moment has had it's way with my ears and my hearts (I've had to install a second heart with which to cope with the vast emotional content that would be just too much for a single-hearted being to bear) Her ethereal tone can be heard and recognized through any din or cacophony with instant recognition and an irrepressible twisting and craning of the neck in order to more fortuitously position the ear into a location of optimal auditory reception which is where I come back to my original point.." Playing guitar is in my zone, but I am not a trained singer; hence, I started searching for singing coaches on the Internet. I found HEATHERVOX. She had a lot of positive reviews; hence, I scheduled a session with her; and, I am so happy I did. - She has a beautiful singing voice; and, she immediately assessed my singing competency baseline. - She immediately started me on vocal techniques that quickly controlled the movement of my neck, mouth, and vocal cords. Most importantly, she taught me the importance of relaxing the vocal cords throughout the octaves. - After 40 minutes of teaching proper singing techniques and using the techniques she taught me going up and down scales, it was time to apply the techniques to a song. - I sang, Here Comes The Sun, by the Beatles; and, I was amazed -- I immediately noticed the improvement in my singing -- now, don't get me wrong, it wasn't just "add boiling water and instant noodles" kind-of- thing, but it was a drastic and noticeable improvement in my singing voice. I still have a lot of work and practice to do. Now, I have more controlled volume, my voice is more robust, colorful, and dimensional, AND I am able to hit higher notes easier without strain. I was also amazed with the added tone quality Heather gave me through her singing techniques. Heather recorded my session; hence, I have a starting baseline of my singing voice. I can track my progress. I also have recordings of the techniques she taught me; so, I can replicate them while doing my homework. I have 6 months from today, 23-January-2025, to get my singing skills on-point; hence, I am 100% certain, working with Heather, will get me to my goal. I scheduled additional appointments with her, and she gave me homework and exercises to work on before my next session. I really enjoy the straw exercise -- extremely helpful. Finally, I like that Heather has good business ethics. She assessed my progress and gave me a class schedule that matched her forecast of my progress within the 6 months -- she didn't try to sell me more lessons than I needed. What an extraordinary stroke of luck that was, as Sujatha is by far the best music teacher I've ever had. My flute playing is now growing in leaps and bounds. I am now learning quickly (and unlearning bad habits), and am inspired to practice a half-hour to hour every day. Sujatha's lessons are joyful, enthusiastic, fast-paced, and targeted to just what I need. Despite my amateur abilities, she treats my musical aspirations with deep respect, and challenges me right to the edge of what I'm capable of each week, so that my playing abilities swiftly grow. I'm now able to sight read music--at least on a basic level--and am learning things I never learned from any music teacher before about the phrasing and expression of music (not just the basics of getting the notes and tempo correct).
