The Wye Valley building seems comfortable enough but there are some glaring issues. 1) The meals are not very healthy or satisfying. For the price that is paid, I would expect fresher food, more variety, more flavor (I have eaten there myself a few times.) More importantly, the meals don't seem to follow appropriate dietary guidelines for seniors with health issues, i.e. most seniors. There was a brief period when the staff had a dietician that was making a real effort to make sure the food was tasty, well presented and appropriately nutritional for the individuals. But now, the food is not very good. My mother tells me about other residents complaining about the food, but are afraid to speak up. 2) The second elevator has been inoperable for months, because of needed repairs. However, and this is on Brookfield, an inspection has not yet been completed, it seems like it's been out of service most of the year. 3) Although the building is for independent living, seniors still need support and stimulation. There is a small game room and a room with an exercise bike. The staff I have encountered do well with the resources they have, but it seems like more interactive activities could be added - things that are a little more engaging and lively - that would be appropriate for an independent living situation.

So we decided to give this place a try. My grandfather was admitted two weeks ago. He left the hospital and went straight here. He had some strength returning and just needed a bit more physical therapy for about a week to be on a good path. When dropping him off, we already felt that this place was not up to par. It was dingy, appeared to be in need of a good cleaning, and we noticed that there wasn't a remote or call button for my grandfather to press if he needed help with anything. Going against our gut, we left him there and figured we'd ask him how the night was and could always take him out the next day if it was as rough as we thought it might be. He fell during the night. He said he was lying on the floor waiting for help for about 30 minutes before anyone noticed. On top of that, we found out that in the 12 hours he was at this facility, no one gave him his medicines. He requires about 12 of them -- each more important than the next. Lastly, he has Leukemia. Yet was placed in a room with a roommate. It's common knowledge that immune systems are low with such a cancer. Yet, the roommate didn't wear a mask nor did any of the staff. If another facility is an option, I'd recommend trying that one instead as my grandfather is back in the hospital after one night at this incompetent facility and has lost all the gains he struggled for a month to achieve. He was so close to going home with his strength and abilities.

I came to Athletico after two…read moreyears of chronic pain from osteoarthritis and little progress elsewhere, just after shoulder surgery. From the start, Erik took the time to really listen and gave me something I hadn't felt in a long time--hope. He created a personalized plan that addressed both my recovery and lingering issues from past injuries. After recently having knee surgery, there was no other place I would go for rehab but here. What makes Athletico so special is the strength of the entire team. I was initially hesitant to work with multiple therapists, but it quickly became one of the biggest advantages. Brandon is like a detective, always asking thoughtful questions to find the true source of pain and then creating a solution. Eduardo, as an athlete himself, understands the complexity of the knee and brings both insight and empathy. Lynn wrote out a full set of stretches for me--completely unprompted--that I still use to this day. This time around, Jackie has been my lead--she's engaging, thoughtful, and makes every session fly by, while also having the knowledge that my condition may be more complex than just osteoarthritis. Abby, Natalie and Lana keep everything running seamlessly, and Max has been incredibly patient and helpful with scheduling. Every visit feels like a personalized training session, with a program that's always evolving to keep me challenged. I'm so grateful for the care and dedication of this team. My case hasn't been simple, but they've helped me regain a quality of life I wasn't sure I'd get back. Without a doubt, the best physical therapy experience I've ever had.

After 2 weeks my symptoms went from mild to severe and during that time my therapist didn't ask how I was progressing. I am very disappointed as I had used this specific Athletico several years earlier and had had a good experience. To add insult to injury, they added a "virtual" person to the process. I was not consulted on whether I needed the extra help - which, as I was going 2x per week, I really shouldn't have. As a result of this separation of actual therapy with virtual discussion ("sneak" billing), I will never go back to Athletico.

The therapists are patient, attentive, and genuinely supportive--they take the time to listen, explain, and guide progress in a way that builds both trust and results. Under Cindy's leadership, the operation runs smoothly and efficiently. The atmosphere is welcoming, the scheduling is well managed, and the entire staff--from therapists to front desk support--demonstrates competence and professionalism. It is clear there is strong oversight, clear standards, and a culture that values both clients and clinical excellence. If there is one area for improvement, it would be equipment upgrades. A team of this caliber deserves tools that match their expertise. High-quality professionals delivering high-quality care should be supported by modern, well-maintained equipment. Investing in updated resources would not only enhance the client experience but also reinforce the overall standard of excellence that the staff already upholds. In short, the people make this place exceptional. With upgraded equipment to match the strength of the team, it would set the benchmark for what a well-run, client-centered facility should be.

Recently I was reported by speech therapist Jolie Slater and OT therapist Hannah Park to DCFS from 1 comment my 4 year old son made. He told them "mommy spank my hand". They admitted out their own mouth to myself and my husband that they called. They noted they didn't want to call but since he said it they had to report it.It's crazy because at that particular time he told them, I actually did not spank his hand but have in the past. When I tell him he will not get a treat or something he wants he will say something like that. We been working with him at the same time he is 4:) Remind you of a few important facts-my son is first and foremost a 4 year old,2nd he has a speech and stuttering issue, 3rd there was only mention of this 1 time-no pattern no consistency, 4th you all have known for almost a year as I make appoint to build a rapport and ask how was your trip or are you feeling better being nice and kind but most importantly showing up for my kids. There was never any marks or bruising or any way shape form that if you know me you know I would not abuse my kids. They come well groomed and always happy to tell who they day went but because he said mommy spank hand I was reported. I wonder if I was a white mom would they have that same energy?! The answer is no! We were one of the only black families that went to Kids Unlimited for almost a year and because your social worker Maryclaire told them if you feel she is a threat and can harm him to definitely report this. I understand about being a mandated reporter as I am one too but I use sound judgment. I assess the situation as every family, parent and child is different. I have a working relationship with the parents. I would talk to them and mention to them. It's common sense and having experience. Funny thing is my kiddo mentioned to them that he said his teachers hit him and they told me a few times but never reported them. At that time I told them that when he doesn't like what is done or said to him in class he will say that because that is how he feel yet I'm reported. I have also spoken to my kiddo and said we can't say things that aren't true because we are mad. At the end of the day, he is a innocent child who no longer goes to this place and missed out on services as we had to find somewhere else. They broke our trust as we trusted them to keep a open honest dialect with us and our son. The owner Mary never reached out and also advised her employee to report me per Jolie & Hannah statement to us. I waited 2 months to post this review as I was patiently waiting for my UNFOUNDED results which is attached as I just received in the mail. Being wrongfully accused hurts as I do not wish this on anyone. Thankfully I am blessed to have love ones support on this unfortunate matter. I will use my voice to inform anyone reading this to think twice about sending their kids to this disgraceful place regardless of color. I will also pursue legal action.
