I have to take the opportunity to write yet another review of Domenic and Third Floor Guitars. I…read moreimpulse purchased an extremely inexpensive partscaster Strat in candy apple red. I've always wanted a candy apple red Strat. The electronics were terrible, the nut was plastic, the action was way too high and the intonation was terrible, and the pickups were underpowered (they were crap, actually), but I knew from past experience that I could count on Domenic at Third Floor Guitars to turn it into a quality instrument. Once again, he didn't disappoint. He replaced the plastic nut with a Tusq nut, swapped out the pots with 3 CTS 250k pots, replaced the switch with a genuine Fender 5-way switch, replaced the jack with a Switchcraft jack, installed an Orange Drop 022 cap, and installed 3 genuine vintage1990s MIM Fender ceramic magnet pickups - and of course, a full setup. I played it tonight at my band's practive and everyone (including me) was amazed at how awesome it sounded. Honestly, it sounded as good as my 1978 Strat - maybe even better!

He's very quick with Pro Tools and he works very efficiently. He is able to achieve great results in a short amount of time. He has amazing 'ears' and he can hear every little detail of every sound. He doesn't need to spend a lot of time working on microphone placement or other important details like that, he seems to just know what works and he's able to get a great sound pretty much instantaneously. He's very receptive to the artist's input and ideas. He's very laid back, respectful and easy to work with... and for a band of all women, this is important! We all felt very comfortable. His assistant Sam was very helpful and skilled as well. I learned a lot from just watching them work. The studio itself is very nice as well. Every recording session has gone smooth and sounded great, i highly recommend choosing Phoenix Down if you are planning on recording full length records, Ep's, or singles, John does it all. He is a masterful producer as well; he knows exactly how to capture your best sound regardless of what style you play; Metal, Bluegrass, Jazz, Rap, you name it, and John will make it sound great. The associate I communicated with over e-mail was a poor communicator and failed to follow up after I inquired. It was only after I called and talked to Tim that I was able to setup a meeting. I brushed that off, however, as a new employee or them simply having a bad day. To my surprise, Tim, the founder, was even more unprofessional. Shortly after meeting him in the studio, Tim began spouting conspiracy theories about vaccines and global politics. I felt very uncomfortable but focused my efforts on being polite. Tim mentioned that his marketing team had warned him about sharing these conspiracies, but he persisted nonetheless. I was ready to setup a recording session but was turned off by Tim's unprofessional demeanour. Even worse, Tim e-mailed several paragraphs of conspiracy theories at 1 AM several days after we met. Unless you are willing to endure Tim's alarming political views, I would suggest looking elsewhere for your recording needs.
