Mayo/acupuncturist wears mask & gloves As for acupuncture process, I tried it about 25 years ago, after falling during a hike & injuring my lower back. And that's the last time I used it! Mayo put me at ease right away & asked me why I was there: oh ya know the world is imploding :) Stress/anxiety/tension! She inserted about 15 tiny needles in me. I only knew the Yin Tang point (between the eyes) b/c a friend said that's primo spot. She informed me she'd leave them in for @ 40 minutes but come back to check on me. The Acupuncture Room emanates a peaceful vibe: white billowing curtains, white-sheeted chairs, and white noise plays in the background, as well as soothing music. Maybe 5 other people were there at the same time? Again all masked & socially distanced in their chairs. I didn't get sleepy or even relax really, but it was my first time. One of the needles fell out almost right away when I was shifting around in my chair. I couldn't exactly yell out & was disappointed that Mayo never came back to check in, until the end. It would have been nice if she had b/c she could have reapplied that one. At the end when she returned, she advised me on how often I might visit, explaining acupuncture works best as a cumulative process. Overall, congrats on providing this healing modality so that it's more affordable/available for everyone! I'm a huge fan of treating mental and physical health challenges with both western and eastern medicine. When Mayo told me she was a one-woman show, I was even more in awe: managing many clients, at one time, in a communal setting, while charging on a sliding scale. Wow! I have been going here for about 3 years and absolutely love this place. They use a sliding scale payment system and you can schedule appointments online. You are able to walk in as well but you might have to wait a little especially since they can get busy. You are there for about 40-50 minutes relaxing and I like to bring headphones as you sit in a room with others so when people come and go you can hear it. This is a fantastic community acupuncture that helps out everyone from all walks of life. You can have walk-In visits or schedule an appointment. The staff is welcoming and courteous. My session was 45 min and tailored to my ailments. I do feel like it helped me. As mentioned this is a community setting. There's 12 recliners set up. Each are clean. They cater your session to your needs from pains and body aches to mood and other issues like fertility and digestion. They play relaxing music, keep a calm enriched environment. I absolutely love this place. I used to go here regularly when I lived in Phoenix and I make it a point to go back if I am visiting. I moved to northern California and whenever I tell other community accupuncturists that I used to go to Phoenix Community Accupuncture they say, "oh wow! You know Mayo? She's a legend!" --I'm not even joking! This has happenend to me on two different occasions. I am not really surprised though, She does a great job of releiving my upper/mid back pain and helping me to de-stress in general. When I go there I get the very best sleep, even though I only rest for an hour, I feel like I've had a full night's rest. This last time I went I tried the battle field accupuncture. I'd never even heard of this before, but I have the "seeds" in right now (it's day 6) and I am feeling almost zero back pain when I normally feel mild to intense pain all the time. My appointment was at 420 and I was checked in 440pm but wasn't able to leave til a bit last 530. They don't change sheets on the chair. As I was walking out, I felt something weird on my arm. Found out that the acupuncturist forgot to remove one. I was stressed the whole time due to time. Then, seeing the sheets that weren't being changed. My OCD went off. I so rarely write reviews (I don't know where people find the time!!!) but I'm going out of my way to say good things about this place because what this space stands for is so wonderful and important- accessibility, community, inclusion, and a more natural approach to healing. It's a super comfortable, relaxing, inviting environment. Mayo is fun and even though her time with you is short, if you talk to her, she will listen and genuinely wants to help. The receptionist there (sorry, I can't remember your name!) is professional but sweet. She also remembers me when I come in and asks me about something I said the week before, which I think shows a lot of care and authenticity. Also, I've read in some reviews that they feel like everyone in the room is so relaxed except for them. I don't actually think that's true. I've been using acupuncture to treat different things that come up every now and then (fatigue, hormone imbalance, body aches and pains, skin etc) and I STILL get a little nervous every time. I think that's normal when you're getting poked with needles. Lol. I kind of think of it like hot yoga or getting a bikini wax. It kinda sucks at first, but then you just get over it. I don't think it's abnormal to feel a little tense at first, and if you do, it's just a small price to pay for the potential benefits. Lastly, I love their online scheduling system cause it's super flexible and makes things easy and possible for someone like me who has a crazy schedule. Sometimes random things come up, but I can cancel the day of (as long as it's 4-5 hours in advance). I do believe that acupuncture can be very helpful for certain things and certain people, but you have to be consistent and go consistently for awhile to see results. If you're like me and you've tried everything else, this is definitely worth it. With the sliding scale, Mayo makes treatment as affordable as can be, and your health is arguably the most important thing you can invest in! read more

I have been receiving acupuncture for 25 years for chronic illness. I've gone to some of the " Best acupuncturists" In several major cities and Have spent a lot of money on treatment. I've never had a bad experience of acupuncture but I've also never had as much relief as I have received from Mayo. I originally came out with a Groupon and honestly I didn't really expect much for the price but I was very pleasantly surprised. I feel so much better after the treatments. Both times, the pain I went in for a completely disappeared by the time I left. By far, one of the most unique experiences that I've ever had. Subdued lighting, probably 12 recliners in a shared, circular setting. Salt lamps, white noise along with very soothing music. (and yes, some clients snoring! Lol) I had a couple of zingers when getting a couple of the needles placed, but nothing not quickly forgotten... A few Battlefield ASP needles ("seeds") in each ear that I'll leave in for 5-7 days, unless they fall out first. (second set grabbed my attention, ever so briefly!) They have you walk a bit each time a set is put in. I'll be going back next Wed. Chiro is still important for me, as well.. But I've never left there feeling as good as I did yesterday, leaving here! I'm in PAIN!! I need something, anything! I need needles in me! Thank you Yelp for leading me to this place! As a first timer, I had to pay the $10 service fee, but then you decide if you want to pay, $15 to $30. I could not understand it at first. So the lady said I can just pay $25 this time (with the $10 service fee) and next time, pay what I want from $15-30. Sweet! I was taken to this room with multiple people. I lay down and I try ridiculously hard to get comfortable, but I can't. I get so many needles in me that if I move, it would be uncomfortable so I had to stay still for 45 minutes. After it was over, I felt good...really good. The pain disappeared.....However, I was told to come back because I need to go more times for better results. The parking situation is not the best and I don't have time, but this needle concept works! I have to go back. I need to go back. I will go back... This was a great place to receive treatment. I've been terrified of needles but I went there and they really didn't hurt very much at all! Was so surprised. Went there due to back pain and while it did not fix it, it wasn't a terrible experience either. For anyone scared, don't be! I was very surprised and relieved to find PCA. The thought of community acupuncture sort of weirded me out for a brief moment before I went to the location. When I arrived I was greeted with a friendly, inviting and calming person named Erin. She was so patient with me and made me feel at ease about the whole process. When I entered the treatment area I was pleasantly surprised to find out how inviting the atmosphere was (the photos do not do it justice). When I realized I was surrounded by like-minded people I quickly relaxed while awaiting my first appointment at PCA. I used my time to meditate and pray while my treatment took place. Someone was even lightly snoring and it was not distracting. I did not use ear plugs, but they offer them complimentary. The only thing that was distracting to me was the clicking of the pen when charting was occurring. I have a back injury that has resulted in a chronic pain condition and I found this to be very beneficial for me. Mayo was so phenomenal. She was empathetic, knowledgeable and super genuine. Being from Los Angeles, I thought I'd heard of everything. Leave it to Phoenix (known more for cowboys than TCM) to have community acupuncture and for it to be at the top of a Google search! Being my very first community acupuncture experience, I was grateful (but a little skeptical) when I made an appointment online (they make it really easy to book yourself an appointment) hoping for some relief after recently injuring my back. I was grateful for the pricing (Hallelujah!) and for there being openings over a holiday weekend. My skepticism was only in line with what anyone might think: will this really be any good? The experience was much better than I expected. The treatments are 5-star excellent. Mayo is super sharp and intuitively knows what sort of needling plan you'll need. This facility is super clean (even the 1 bathroom that must be shared with customers and personnel alike). The community room is dimly lit, and everyone whispers discreetly -- no one cares what your problems are, they're here to unwind and forget their own, and everyone seems to be so polite. Bottom line is she saved my butt (literally) since it was a holiday and I had back pain. And, comparing the treatment I received here vs. the "fancy" acupuncture I'd gotten the week prior at the UCLA East/West Clinic for the same issue, I can say that the treatment at Phoenix Community Acupuncture was better. This was eye opening and you folks in Phoenix are lucky to have this quality care at your disposal. read more

I *love* this experience. I've been six times so far, and I'm a total fan. (They give you a frequent flyer card, and at ten visits you get one free.) The location is super convenient - right down from Thomas & 7th St. The pricing structure is phenomenal! It is kind of on the honor system - where you pay what you feel like you can afford that day ($15 and up). The treatment you get is super professional and therapeutic. I read up on this method, and this is how they actually do it overseas so they can treat a bigger group at the same time. I am glad that I got the experience this way before trying a "traditional" American acupuncture joint. I will always go with community acupuncture from here on out. The people at this place run a great business, and despite being ridiculously busy all the time, they are SUPER nice and genuinely interested in helping people. The space is FULL of positive energy, but with an extremely relaxing mood/atmosphere. I have gone in without an appointment and gotten in right away. I would advise using their online portal to book though - super quick, intuitive, and easy. I want to conclude by saying I would recommend this to everyone, even if you do not have a major medical issue. However, I found a pamphlet for Phoenix Community and saw they worked on a sliding scale ($15-$35), and decided to give them a whirl. It's a nice little place, very calm and quiet. I was greeted by the front desk dude and sat to fill out my paperwork. He showed me back to the area, where I was informed of how they roll (since it's community style). They have a large room set up with recliners and you just pick out which one you want to relax in. Mayo came over and we had a short chat and she helped me recline. She got to work, and she was quick! I barely felt a thing..I was impressed:) It's great to find a place that understands the importance of taking care of oneself, but not costing an arm and a leg. I am a convert, 100%. Both to acupuncture and to Mayo's practice in particular. Since my first visit, I have been urging my friends to get in here, for whatever might ail them. Mayo has been able to help me with a number of problems I've had. The big one is my right shoulder, which had lost most of its range of motion due to pain, and is now becoming as strong as ever. On one occasion, I came in, completely drained of energy and was giddy as all get out, practically bouncing off the walls when I left. She was even able to ward off a migraine, when all medicine I've ever tried has failed! I went here with my grandpa a few weeks ago. He hunts (urg) and hurt his hand shooting. He lost feeling in it and couldn't really move his hand. After one session here, that night he was sitting in my kitchen moving his fingers. My family and I were starring at him wondering what he was doing, when asked he said, "look, this hand has been numb for weeks, I haven't been able to move it." I thank acupuncture and Mayo's bomb skills that gave my grandpa the ability to move again. Since my groupon expired I go almost every week/week and half. It is extremely relaxing and when I leave I feel like I either have had a great nap or that I have had a great massage. I love this place and will continue to go back. You have well dressed corporate women, teenage basketball players, alternative tattoo parlor looking guys, to the average mom and pop, to grannies. All walks of life here which is absolutely great. Due to the community nature of this place, you can get right in. There was even a walk in while I was filling out paper work and she floated right in. 2. Quality of Service - front desk and the Acupuncturist herself, Mayo, were both sweet sweet gals. 3. PRICE! You choose what you pay. $15-35, based on what you can do. There is a $10 addition to your first visit. Amazing! It makes it realistic to follow a regular regimen. 4. Vibe - Mayo is a healer for sure. Her presence alone is comforting. She listens and takes time with you even though she's multi-tasking. I felt like I was the most important patient there, but I'm sure everyone else did too. 5. I sleep with strangers! On the new client paperwork, there is a section for potential side effects. They include deep relaxation, sleep and snoring. And yes, I have fallen asleep there more than once. This place is amazing! I had it bookmarked for awhile - but a few weeks back, my neck was killing me, and it seems chiropractors are closed on Thursdays. Luckily, I remembered I had seen great reviews here, so I called them and they had me come in right away. The improvement after just one session was incredible! (Almost in tears on the way in, barely sore on the way out!) It was suggested I come 2 or 3 times a week for a couple of weeks, just because the pain had been so bad. That was several weeks ago - and I am still going at least once or twice a week. Now it's not for pain, but vitality. I feel healthier overall. Maybe it's purely from taking the time to shut out the outside world, focus on breathing and truly relax - which I rarely take the time to do on my own. Or maybe it's because thousands of years of this healing practice suggests it's not snake oil. No matter what it is - it's working! Mayo and Nicole (the 2 acupuncturists) both have a very calming presence and gentle touch. And the sliding scale of $15 - $35 per visit make it accessible and affordable for the masses. (No income check - you pay what you feel you can.) There's a $10 new patient set up fee, but that is waived if you get a referral card from an existing client/patient/customer (not sure which is correct in this case.) The feeling of calm and serenity in the treatment room is notable, and I find myself looking forward to the next appointment, knowing how refreshed and healthy I'll feel afterward. Today was my second visit to PCA and I felt compelled to write a review on my thoughts so far. I'll update this review as I progress. First of all, I do believe that acupuncture works. When I was 18, I started having pain in my neck from my desk job. It was becoming a chronic problem, and I was in pain every day for 3 months straight. After two treatments with a local practitioner, the pain was completely gone. It was truly magical! So fast forward 16 years... I have many health problems, including fibromyalgia and chronic pain in my back, neck and shoulders from a car accident 14 years ago. These are the main reasons I am coming to PCA. I have only seen Mayo so far, but I can tell you that she is a very strong empath and healer and has such a beautiful and caring spirit. There is definitely a powerfully healing vibe in the treatment room, and I don't mind at all sharing the space with other people. In fact, the more people there, the more intense the vibe (IMO). After my two treatments, I felt lighter and not so weighed down, which is awesome because that is probably the most debilitating problem I have at the moment... body fatigue. My mid-back pain seems slightly better too. Since my problems are chronic and have been around for many years, I do have realistic expectations that it'll take multiple treatments for my body to heal and the results be long-lasting, so I plan on coming to PCA regularly for awhile. I've been here about 1/2 a dozen times and my wife a couple. Mayo is great and so is her clinic. It is a "community style" setting but for what you choose to pay, it's an awesome value. The mission is to make treatment affordable, not to have a private spa setting. Would definitely go here regularly if we continued to live here. I will definitely look for other community acupuncture clinics in other cities we'll live in. It gets busy at times, so it's worth making an appointment if you need to get in and leave on time. Prices are moderate here, the people are friendly, appointments are fairly easy to get, and parking is convenient to their office. The actual acupuncture seems a little iffy to me. They provide comfortable lounge type chairs that aren't really amenable to a 'complete' back treatments and some of the needles tend to fall out easily. They are not bad though. read more
