Save those container sleeves for your next acupuncture buddy!

Want to look like Pinhead from Hellraiser in a serene scenic spa setting? I kid, I kid. The lovely Kemlyn B. gifted me with her free acupuncture session for a friend so off we went on a journey to get poked in order to get relaxed! For each new client there is an online intake form you can fill out where you list your basic information, medical history and what ailments you wish to have treated for your appointment. The room is relaxing and peaceful but set up more like an upscale version of a community acupuncture room, with comfortable zero gravity chairs that have an automated massage option and privacy curtains in between chairs. I had never done acupuncture before so I didn't really know what to expect. My acupuncturist was Kiya. She was very nice and skilled with the fine art of the medical needle. For most of the acupuncture areas I barely felt anything but for a couple of the more troublesome spots I felt a small pinch that went away after a second. One spot did have some recurring mild throbbing that lessened after Kiya patted my arm a few times. While you sit in the super comfortable chair, practicing the art of being a human pincushion, you can glance at the soothing TV screens showing ultra high def images of the beach or other serene nature scenes, or you may simply close your eyes and meditate on the finer aspects of being a temporary porcupine. After the treatment was over my ear did gush some blood after a needle was taken out. Drip, drip, dribble... It was quickly mopped up with some towel and the bleeding soon went away after that initial needle withdrawal. Let's just say don't wear your Sunday best to an acupuncture session. Luckily none got on my shirt! Everyone here was very friendly and when we were done with your appointment the lovely front desk person made us a tea of our choice. There were about 3-4 choices of tea when I was here and you can have it iced or hot. The tea I had was a cool calm and refreshing beverage. The normal cost is $59 for a walk in session, with discounts for signing up on a monthly plan. I'd love to come back again but due to location which is far from where I live I may have to put future appointments on hold for now. If you live in the area though it's a good choice for pain relief therapy, or for even lowering high blood pressure and treating allergies.

Gorgeous Mandala Door

Modern Acupuncture has altered my paradigm about acupuncture treatments. My prior treatments were delivered in a traditional Chinese medicine shop or at a clinical doctor's office-like setting. Modern Acupuncture magical and tranquil Zen Den pairs acupuncture with a spa experience. The simple and thoughtful decor whisper relax and rest. This is genius because for most people, the notion of having needles pricking you is the opposite of relaxation. So, why didn't anyone else think about creating a setting that helps clients relax their muscles with soft mood music, the sounds of running water, heavenly aromas and low lighting? As you wait for your appointment, MA invites you to pick out a tea for after your treatment. Your tea is served up hot or cold as desired. Enter the double doors that complete a gorgeous, texturiffic Mandala. You are transported into a quiet world with semi-private curtains, waterfalls, sweet aromas and comforting music. Your practitioner will invite you to place your shoes and belongings in a basket beside a chair. This chair is worth the whole treatment. It is a fully reclining chair that is more comfortable than any bed I have slept in. It massages and also provides heat. I am usually a massage fan, but I simply love lying in an incline without any added motion. Tip: Ladies, do not wear skirts because they don't have privacy blankets yet. I have experienced treatment from both Kiya and Erica. Both practitioners have offered precise and effective treatment for my sciatic and back pain. The slight pain of insertion quickly dissipates. The relief the acupuncture brings is immediate. If I ever pass another kidney stone, I am coming to MA. After insertion, the next 30 minutes is pure heaven. I found myself in a half sleep half awake state of relaxation. The nights after MA treatments, I slept soundly. After treatment, I enjoyed a delicious cup of tea. I have tried the relaxation tea and the one good for the liver and kidneys. Both were delightful. Tip: If you are planning on receiving a treatment, MA ask that you take an online health survey. You can do this at home before arrival at your leisure. This prepares them to come up with a treatment plan for you. Also, plan on staying a little more than half an hour for your treatment and tea afterwards. I look forward to introducing friends to this ancient technique through Modern Acupuncture. Tip: Modern Acupuncture has a no tipping culture.

Modern Acupuncture - membership based franchise offering affordable acupuncture from the people who brought you The Joint.

First off, my treatment was effective for my chief complaint! I came in with mild hip pain that had been flaring up for a month or two and it has not bugged me for a couple days. The young man who treated me was a fully licensed acupuncturist (forgot his name), as all acupuncturists are who work for MA. He used about 10 needles along the lower legs and none in my hands, ears or head. His technique was good and I only felt a slight pinch one time at a point under my ankle. As an acupuncturist myself, I was especially interested in how treatments would be delivered in a lower cost membership-oriented environment without the privacy a clinic like mine offers. Many in my profession have expressed concern over how MA, a Massage Envy and Joint type of franchise, might impact acupuncture. Personally I do not think clinical acupuncturists have much to worry about, and I think many patients who take advantage of membership will benefit from being able to increase the frequency of visits that a lower cost clinic offers. BTW, there's nothing that feels low cost about it. Both acupuncturists were very professional, skilled, and attentive. The receptionist was cheerful and friendly. The decor, fixtures, and color scheme were clean, Zen, and attractive showing attention to detail. Still, I can't give the experience 5 stars. Namely, I was cold from the AC which was pretty noisy. Secondly, too much light came in from the heavy sliding door. The recliners were comfortable even for a short person like me, but they had a massage function that pressed on my needles so I had to stop. The motors to the chairs were also loud and at first I couldn't figure out where that weird noise was coming from. Perhaps I'm aging myself, but here's a 70s SciFi movie reference: the pretty pictures on the overhead flat screen TV made me feel like Edward G. Robinson in Soylent Green. The TVs an unnecessary addition in my opinion. My recommendation is that future MAs skip the motors on the chairs and the flat screen TVs. Perhaps offer a bean bag eye cover to block out light. If I return, I'll probably just use my own music. The music was soft enough to do that. Overall, high marks for staff, more attention to the comfort of patients.

After several visits, I think it's time to leave my review. I have been a member for several months now because they do such a good job with the acupuncture that I keep coming back. I usually make my appointments on Wednesdays and have made it a weekly wellness Wednesday routine. First, I go to my chiropractor for adjustments and massage. Then a haircut, facial or pedicure and then treatments at Modern Acupuncture. I always look forward to going to this place because I always feel rejuvenated. I had chronic lower back, and knee pain and the acupuncture treatments have helped alleviate the issues. They have a couple of different plans here, and acupuncture can even treat wrinkles, hair loss, insomnia, smoking weight problems, and more. The treatment rooms are immaculately clean, and their expertise is noticeable after only one treatment. The staff is fabulous and very friendly. Of course, the complimentary tea is always nice.

Do you do acupuncture for dogs? He has some arthritis in his legs

Hi, sorry we do not treat dogs. I suggest checking with the school in Phoenix. They may be able to direct you to someone who does. PHIMA.edu Thanks for the question.

I'm looking for someone who practices Japanese acupuncture. Do you have any recommendations?

I felt very comfortable here. He took his time with me to get to the heart of what was going on. He did the needles through the clothes which is a first for me. I'm used to exposing the skin but I also can't see why it would be required, so I'm not bothered by it. Simply different. He recommended a ground supplement for to add to hot water for drinking twice a day. It was helpful. Fees are reasonable & there is a package you can purchase to help save some money. Who doesn't want to save money?! I will definitely come back. Would also recommend if you're interested in acupuncture.

Tao Acupuncture deserves more than 5 stars!!…read more I had never tried acupuncture before coming here but had heard good things about it in the past. I found them on Yelp and I'm so glad I did the search. Dr. Han is AMAZING! He has the best calming and relaxing energy. I didn't know what to expect my first session but right when he walked in I felt instantly at ease. I'm not one who can meditate or enjoys yoga because I have a hard time relaxing and staying present, but every time I come here and see Dr. Han I'm in a deep state of relaxation. I even told my husband to give it a try and when he came in he said he was so relaxed he forgot where he was multiple times!!! Dr. Han really cares about his patients. He always checks in to make sure I'm getting enough sleep and taking care of myself postpartum. I came in one session with a tight neck and walked out 100% better I was shocked! Then I came in another time congested from allergies and walked out feeling so much better. I don't know why I waited so long to try acupuncture and I'm so glad I found Dr. Han! It wasn't like I had seen on tv getting poked with what looked like a hundred needles. Dr. Han uses very few needles and I love that he uses more of a holistic technique. For those of you that are new to acupuncture like me, it doesn't hurt at all!!! You also can leave all your clothes on which is a plus and then you just drift into a relaxing feeling of paradise... Morgan the office manager is always so nice and quick to get back to me and I love that you can text them with questions or scheduling. They also text to confirm appointments which I really appreciate. Love love love Tao Acupuncture and will continue to recommend to my friends and family!
