Phoenix Buffet delivered hot fresh food, a variety of options, and a clean spacious layout to top Fargo's Asian buffet options. The service was great and even though it was extremely busy they cycled through guests at a pretty good pace allowing for no more than a short 15-20 minute wait despite having a full lobby that spilled out into the parking lot. There was lots of seating and they not only had vast options ranging from classic kid friendly options like pizza and chicken nuggets to all of the standard Chinese buffet options such as Lo Mein and Egg drop soup. However, beyond the classic buffet they also had an impressively stocked Sushi bar, a hibachi grill, and a pho bar. We came to Phoenix Buffet specifically for lunch pricing and arrived before 4:00 PM because their website lists lunch as Mon-Fri 11 AM-4 PM. The day before, my daughter called the restaurant twice to confirm the pricing before we came. The first call at 6:03 PM was to ask about the lunch cutoff time, and she was told lunch pricing was until 4:00 PM. The second call at 6:05 PM was to make sure July 3 would not be charged as holiday pricing since July 4 was the holiday. Because of the website and those phone calls, we made a point to arrive before 4:00 PM. When we received the receipt, I saw that it showed 3:48 PM, but we had been charged dinner pricing. At first, I thought it was just a misunderstanding, so I mentioned it to our waitress. The waitress told me the sign inside says lunch ends at 3:45 PM. I did not realize there was a different time posted inside, so I walked up to see where the sign was located. It was not something we would have seen when walking directly to seating, especially when the website says lunch is until 4:00 PM and we had called ahead to confirm. I then went to the front station and spoke with a man there. I explained that we came in based on the website and the phone confirmation and asked if an adjustment could be made. He acknowledged that the website needs to be corrected, but still said no adjustment could be made. When I explained that my daughter had called ahead to confirm, he said no one there would have told her lunch pricing was until 4:00 PM and asked who told her that. I would not know the name of the person who answered the phone, but his response felt dismissive, disrespectful, and not helpful. The food itself was also disappointing. Every item we tried lacked flavor. The sushi rolls were bland, especially the rice, and the rice and fish tasted lower quality and not flavorful. Overall, the food was subpar even for buffet-style dining. We have been to several Asian buffets, and this was not a place we would choose to return to. The atmosphere also felt uncomfortable at times. While staff were putting food out at the buffet, there was loud communication between staff, including someone speaking over an intercom or speaker system near the buffet area. I have not experienced that in a buffet restaurant before, and it was distracting while we were trying to eat. Overall, this was disappointing. At the very least, if the customer service had been handled well, it may have softened the experience. Instead, the pricing issue, lack of adjustment, food quality, and atmosphere made the whole visit feel awful. If the lunch cutoff is 3:45 PM, the website and phone information should clearly say that. Customers should not be charged dinner pricing when they relied on the restaurant's own posted online hours and phone confirmation. I was really hoping this would be a good local place for us because we live nearby, but after this experience, I do not recommend this restaurant. I've been to most every buffet place in the Fargo area and this one is definitely the biggest with the most variety of food. Heck, it may very well be the best and biggest in the state. It opened in May 2026, so it's very new too. There was so much variety that my husband didn't have enough room to try everything lol. We ate during the earlier lunch hours and it was very busy. The atmosphere was superb with lots of seating, and loved the Korean music in the background. There was also a super cool Iron Man statue to greet you lol. And loved the giant phoenix decor too. I was really happy with the variety of food. There's pizza, macaroni and cheese, garlic bread, chicken nuggets, fries, onion rings, potato wedges and dinner rolls for the pickier eaters. You'll find a wide variety of great quality sushi, plus loads of other foods. The service was fine with the greeting lady seeming the most friendly. I believe I heard an intercom, which I would suggest not to have. It disrupts the vibes and caused all the chatter to quiet down for a moment right after. The busy chatter from all the guests definitely helped block out most of the intercom sound, and it wasn't at all often. The price was $15.99 for each person during lunch hours and $20.99 for dinner hours, which seems to be around what I've been seeing for buffets. And being that this one was bigger, I'd say it aligns with what you'd expect nowadays. What I would change for my personal preference is have soft serve ice cream instead of basic ice cream flavor cups. Include perhaps a green tea ice cream flavor or some additional less basic flavor. I would add some mozzarella sticks and soup as well to make it perfect to my personal liking anyway, but what it offers is definitely already satisfactory. The food is good there's a large selection and the service is good. They collect your plates and refill your drinks in a timely manner. The only issue I have is the gratuity automatically being added on. We had 4 people(3 adults one child) and it was $80 something but after the 15% gratuity that was added it came to almost $100. Anytime I went to try to enjoy a meal with my family, we would be treated the worst I've ever experienced a buffet. We had straws thrown at our table right as we sat down and got our drinks. We would be seated in the back where they moved employees on their lunch because that's all we saw be seated there other than us just employees on lunch time.
