We were in Calgary trying to look for a pho restaurant and stumbled upon Pho Uncle Ten. Took awhile to find it since it was hidden behind the plaza. We walked in and immediately welcomed with pleasant happy smiles and told us to sit anywhere. The aroma of the restaurant was the next clue we were in for a great meal! Besides heading to my folks for my mom's homemade food, there's very few places I'll hit up when I'm craving Vietnamese food. I mean, why mess with the best? ;) I'm always met with the same reaction every time the discussion of pho comes up: Everyone under the sun: OMG, I loooooooooooooove pho. You must get to eat it all the time! Me: Actually, I don't really like pho This is followed by a bug eyed look of bewilderment and then "WHAT?! How can you not?!" Yes, I'm sure my ancestors are stirring in their graves in disappointment, but I'm not a soup person! HOWEVER, whenever I'm here at Pho Que I actually get the pho because I really like the flavoring in their broth (not loaded with MSG) and their noodles are kinda chewy - which is the way I like them (I know some people like their noodles soft - at that point I think they're mushy) Their other dishes are quite tasty too - I've had the charbroiled pork with rice and spicy beef with noodles - YUM! True to most Asian restaurants, you come here for the food - not the service. I honestly don't mind ordering my food and being left alone till I'm done. I grew up eating a lot of Vietnamese cuisine and I've tried a few Vietnamese joints in Calgary already and I really do like this one. They have a wide selection of items on their menu, from salad rolls to pho bowls to vermicelli to rice dishes. Everything a Vietnamese restaurant should have. I also enjoy their drink menu, lots to choose from. Their service is quick, food in my face in 5 minutes. Also, their prices are under $10, because truthfully pho bowls should not be anymore than that which I find happens a lot in the more "mainstream" Vietnamese restaurants. This place would get 5 stars if their soup had just a tad bit more flavour to it, I like a strong kick in my soup, has to be like my mom's. It's fine! I had the beef satay soup, as always. No match for Bagolac's but some nice heat and flavour. My family were all happy with their meals, standard stuff, vermicelli with spring rolls along with some salad rolls. I wouldn't hesitate to return, but I wouldn't drive too far. read more

I love this place! For less than $8 or $9 you can get a great bowl of pho, or for around $10 many of the other dishes on the menu. The service can be quite fast, especially if you get the soup. Like a previous reviewer had said, the service isn't very personable (i.e. give order, get food, pay at till), but I don't mind efficient service, especially when they have no qualms about you taking your time in enjoying your meal. The jasmine tea is free as well, which is nice as many places in town will charge for that. There are two TVs in the venue which is a nice touch. Bathrooms are clean. I normally have the Pho Ga here (chicken noodle soup) and the chicken is always tender and moist. In some places, it's tough or stringy; not here. The broth is dark, but it has a sweetness to it. My favourite part about this establishment is that for around $10 (and many times less), you can walk away satiated. Highly recommended if you're in the area and are looking for a place to fill up for cheap. 21/30 read more

It was ok. The broth was rather bland. Definitely needed more spices in it. There was a lot of noodles in the soup but there was only a few bites of meat. I had the raw beef and brisket pho. The center of the beef was pink but defiantly not raw and the 'brisket' was thin strips of connective tissue. The condiments were unlabeled and I could identify the fish sauce from the pungent aroma and the hot sauce was recognizable but the this is still a mystery to me. I added a lot of hot sauce. It was only about $8 I also got an Vietnamese avocado milkshake. The flavor was of a vanilla that had been shown an avocado briefly. It wasn't bad but for $4.50 not what I would want. The plus side is the staff was very quick and mostly friendly. Food came quickly. Bill came to just over $13 and the only odd interaction came when I paid cash and the cashier didn't seem to want to ice me change. Would give 2.5 stars if I could read more

I recently moved into the area and have been here twice now. Both times I got the beef and brisket pho, and I was surprised at how incredibly delicious it was-- a deep and savory flavour, very comforting and satisfying. I ordered the small portion and it was enough for my girlfriend and I to share, so you get a lot of food for a great price. The best part of my experience was the excellent service. Both times I've visited, the man working there, I believe he's the owner, has been extremely helpful and kind and really elevated the whole experience, not to mention our food was ready in under five minutes! New owners and no longer Pho Que Houng. So sad...they had the best sate. Tried out the new owners and the sate is nothing close to before and a lot smaller portions. This place is average. Your normal pho place, no twists or anything unique. Though consistency is a blessing. The food is delicious and the service is quick and easy. I didn't see my server after she handed my food but I understand because I was in and out. The spring rolls were small to me and sort of a bummer but it's still worth it as it tastes great. This place was a lot better when the original owners were here, but like all things, life changes. This place is still great but it loses a star because WOW can it EVER get cramped in there! The food is pretty good, and their satay is very nice. Their appetizers are definitely worth sitting down and giving a shot as well. Service is alright, as another user described - Come in, sit down, take your order, here's your food, see you at the till; however they're always been pleasant or at the very least neutral during this. They lose another star because I've noticed exponentially different service for native Vietnamese speakers and native English speakers, the servers are much nicer to, more efficient for, and will check up on the mother-tongue (or learned?) We went here as a family yesterday and wow..it was delicious. The service was amazing, the owner is shower nice and kind and friendly. The food was superb, I had Pho amd my husband had vermicelli. We were very happy. We discovered the current owner used to work at pho Thanh on 64 ave NE..he and his wife branched out and opened up this restaurant..the prices here are $2 cheaper than at pho Thanh. We stopped going to pho Thanh because his brother in law now runs the place,a young guy who is so rude, his customer service made us never want to eat there again ..also at pho Thanh niw,they are so desperate for money they charged us for extra bean sprouts and hot sauce without telling us ahead of time..they snuck it into bill...so we are happy to find a much better equivalent at Uncel Ten..it's worth the extra 10 min drive from our previous haunt. They also had a huge selection of other soups and foods I will try next time we come back. This is our new favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary and believe me, I've been to so many in my 47 years in Calgary. Uncle Ten..Great food, great portions,phenomenal service, great price..it's cheaper than a lot of the pho places now in Calgary. $11.50 for an xl special bowl. Can't get that price these days. I went to this restaurant last Saturday Sept 1. Took my wife and kids there after we just came back from hiking in K country. We were starving and I was in the mood for some good Vietnamese noodle soup. All is ok. I knew I liked the food and the prices at this restaurant, however this time, I was quite a bit disappointed with the service, in particular the waitress. She didn't smile and appeared to really be annoyed by our presence. The dishes and glasses were rudely placed on our table and when I had asked for an additional plate and utensils, all we got was a bowl (???). Too bad, I really like going there but since this experience, I will think twice now before going back. The owners should really do some training for their servers and teach them how to properly do customer service. What we experienced was not good and my wife and I agreed that we felt bad and unwanted at this restaurant after eating there. I will tell everyone I know to avoid going here in the future.
