I don't see how this place could get 5 stars. The instructors and owners are incredibly rude and tear kids down instead of building up their self-confidence. Every class my son is mistreated, put down, and discouraged. My son does have some attention issues, as do most 4 year olds. On numerous occasions he's been put in 'time out' for not staying on task (every time for 15+ minutes, this is a 30 minute class) and if he starts giggling he gets put in time out. Again, he's 4. Mr. Hackerott came up to me one day after putting my son in time out yet again and said that the problem with my child is he's lacking discipline then states that he wants permission to spank him when he doesn't stay on task. That was the last straw. A GOOD instructor shouldn't have to resort to physical punishment every time a child loses focus for a split second. This is how they believe in teaching discipline? By spanking and instilling fear?! The sad thing is that there are at least 5 other families that I know of that have had the same issue (wish I would have known beforehand). We have cancelled our contract and are now attending classes at a location in town. Don't waste your time or your money with these people! read more

We've been students at HLA since 2008 & have been more than pleased with our experiences. My sons have done the regular TKD classes, the Leadership classes and summer camps and I've done the daytime adult classes. It is very family oriented, friendly and professional. It has been really nice to have instructors that are knowledgeable and firm with the students, yet flexible and patient with those of us who might be a little older and less physically fit! I love that there are no additional testing fees tacked on to the dues, with the exception of Black Belt testing. I have been doing gracie combatives for about 11 month now. I love the environment at HLA and the positive attitudes here. They have helped me in so many ways as far as self confidence and better attitudes and leadership. I've had such a great time training here. I've received my blue belt in gracie combatives back in May and have been very greatful on the instructors working with me and helping me be a leader. They gave me the confidence now to help teach new students reach their goals and learn jiu jitsu. I'm thankful for them and highly recommend HLA to anyone adult and child wanting more in life. read more

I started coming here 3 months ago and haven't been able to attend a single class for 2 months of that due to my father dying. Some rude lady has been calling almost every day for the past two months demanding money. Told her that I was on a month to month basis and since I haven't been there, I wasn't paying the $300 she says I owe and told her I was filing harassment charges if she continues to call. She said 'I don't care, call the police'. I hang up and she calls back repeatedly. Filing a report against them. Don't waste your money or time with these people! read more

I've been doing Gracie jiu jitsu for about 5 months now and women's self defense for 3 months. There is nothing about it that I don't enjoy. I was a little worried that it would be a primarily men's class but that is not the case......there are several women in the classes and it is suitable for everyone to take! Jiu jitsu has given me more confidence than I could have imagined! The atmosphere here is very friendly and encouraging,,,,they are like a second family to me! I have been given the ability to defend myself in any situation and to me that is priceless. read more

My son has been attending Hackerott's for almost a year now and he absolutely loves it. We started him in the classes while my husband was deployed to take advantage of Hackerott's discount classes for children of deployed soldiers. Now, we are hooked. Not only does my son love the classes, we love all the instructors and the verbal judo tips. We even use the verbal judo to help our older daughter, who isn't in taekwondo, to deal with negativity at school. read more

My son has been taking taekwondo at HLA for two years. It has been wonderful to watch his confidence rise as he has tested through the colored belts and, just recently, his first degree black belt. He has learned so much, and it has also been a wonderful physical outlet for him. All the instructors are very knowledgeable and caring. Hackerott's Leadership Academy has welcomed my family with open arms. They have managed to teach my son things that i thought he was unable to learn, discipline and integrity. Love attending Gracie Combatives. I have degenerative disk disease in my lower back and they are always attentive to that and have given me exercises to do to strengthen my core which helps my back. My son is also in taekwondo and doing very well, it's a great outlet for him and he has made some good friends. I will be enrolling my other children very soon! read more

My children just started Taekwondo with HLA this summer. We are thrilled with the changes in them as they become more confident in what they are doing. DON'T BOTHER! Took my child here for a few months and have since left. Very negative environment. Children's classes involve an instructor standing up front, barking orders. Classes are not fun, engaging or positive. read more
