We have used Phinney Ridge Painting twice now for large projects- first a full house painting project in a 100 year old house- top to bottom ceilings, walls, trim and stairs in early 2024, and second project a massive repaint and hole patching project after an exceptionally large electrical rewiring project in late 2025. At least 20+ holes were patched and are now absolutely invisible in our color-drenched home. Overall, communication is excellent- everyone on the team gets cc'ed on emails, project managers visit the site regularly, and the onsite leads are extremely professional and detail-oriented. Arnoldo was our first project painting lead, his skill is unparalleled- watching him paint or come up with a painting solution for a tricky area is astounding. Adrian M was our most recent painting lead, and he is focused, efficient and clearly works very hard (the guy runs fast but is very professional in everything he does) and has a level of skill that is unmatched. Everyone is polite, respectful of our home and friendly. Phinney Ridge is tidy and clean, they take feedback well when things aren't quite perfect, and they are timely and efficient, and they solve problems. The cost and quality are commensurate, their experience is well evidenced and they always have solutions for tricky old house problems, plus a great warranty. I would happily hire again, and we plan to when the time comes to paint the exterior of our house in another year or two. read more

Had our house painted about a year ago, maybe a little longer. Was given a quote for the front of the house and the trim around the windows sills throughout the outside of the house. When they came for the final inspection before they said that the quote didn't include the windows sills. I said that was not what I was told. Long story short they finally agreed to do the windowsills. With the painting job they did in the front, they had to come back twice to fix/paint the things they missed. When I showed disappointment with that, I was told "Well after all we did do the windowsill's for you". I found that very condescending and YEAH you did, but that what was quoted for me. Now there is paint in the front that has a large bubble will eventually crack. Contacted them by email but haven't hear back yet. I am glad other people had a good experience, but we did not. read more

We hired Phinney Ridge painting to paint our house a year ago. We've been very happy with results. The house is about 100 years old and it had a lot of bubbling under the old paint layer. Other painting companies told us that we'd have to replace the siding or the bubbles would come back. Only Phinney Ridge said they had a solution that could remove the bubbles without requiring replacing siding. ( a competitor even mention Phinney Ridge was the only one that could do this). It was definitely expensive, but worth it as the bubbles haven't returned in the areas that were shaved down. House looks beautiful and we've got a ton of compliments from our neighbors. Phinney Ridge was also able to install some dental detailing, which took the house up another notch. Ryan, Lalo, and Elder were all awesome to work with. Perhaps what's most important is that they stand behind the quality of their work. Small bubbles have popped up in a few areas that didn't get shaved down and they've come back and address them as part of their service, no charge. Disappointed is the word I'd use to describe my recent experience with PRP. Nik came out to the house. He was charming and personable. He provided detailed explanation of what the job would entail. He even furnished me with two other local companies so I could compare + contrast bids. He told me he'd send over a detailed bid and a few days later he did. The bid was a bit higher than expected. I had two more companies come bid the house. One was higher. One was lower. I wanted to discuss the bid with Nik so I called the office and spoke with Jason. Jason said he'd pass along the message. It's unclear if he did because I never heard back from Nik. A week later I sent Jason a follow up email and cc'd Nik. Still no response. Hence the disappointment. Asked a bid from this company. After a delay in scheduling, Nik, an owner, showed up over a half hour after our scheduled time. By the time he showed up I was pressed for time and tried to quickly explain my straight-forward scope. After getting interrupted and contradicted (followed by several "do you understand's?") for about 10 mins, I said I didn't really need to know the details (was going to follow it with, "you're the expert") but he again interrupted and in a raised voice said "Oh, yes you do!" This guy went from disrespectful to hostile. When I said I didn't need the quote, he said he didn't need my business, he's got no problem getting business, etc. He escalated so quickly that I felt fear on my own property. And frankly have a little writing this. But as a public service: anyone, and especially if you're a woman, I'd think twice about inviting this guy into your space. Luis and Noah showed up on time every day and went right to work on my job. They were very professional and proficient and helped me move my furniture back into place after the job was done, which was really appreciated. Although the actual painting was adequate, it is a big company with too many people not communicating with each other, and the project manager was a disaster-evasive about change order, tried to overcharge, manipulative etc. Finally, I had to make a call to the president of the company and threaten to stop all work unless the Project manager was taken off the project. When I stated that I would be keeping time sheets for the workers to check in and out, to keep track of the actual hours that they worked- for an extra work order not in the original bid, the president of the company decided to cancel the contract for that extra job. Also the workers broke the glass top of a patio table, but the project manager neglected to tell me for four days, and said he would just take the cost off the final bill, without stipulating what the exact cost would be. This was a pattern- making evasive answers to specific requests For example, the original bid called for 10 storm windows to be taken down, painted, and put back up. Instead, we decided to replace those windows, got rid of the storm windows, and REPEATEDLY in emails and verbally asked them how much they would adjust the bill. The project manager kept evading and just saying he would "take it off the final bill," without specifying the amount. The final coup was a slight extra work order. We asked for a bid to do some minor touch up work on the newly replaced window, inside the house. Instead of giving us a bid, two workers showed up on a rainy day to work on the inside. My husband asked them how much it would cost-the workers said that the project manager knew, but he was not anywhere around and my husband was not the person in charge of the project on our side. The workers spent about 2 hours working on it, I provided some of the paint, but the bill came to $6,360. quoting 16 hours of labor. When I questioned it, and asked for the paint receipts the project manager, used highly manipulative language, and REFUSED to give me the receipts, stating that when you go to a restaurant you don't order a hamburger and ask for the grocery receipts for the ground beef, lettuce and tomato. That is when I called in the president. The adjusted bill was $1,300. and the painting receipts, which the president of the company showed me, came to $60. The president explained that the paint I had given them was old and dried up-but they could have told me that initially-lots of communication difficulties. After I had paid them, I noticed that a gate had been damaged and that large pieces of glass were scattered around my patio. The company president did not fire the project manager, although he protested that the way the project manager behaved was not part of a pattern-unfortunately I am not that easily manipulated, the proof was right there. There was just so much time wasted dealing with the poor communication. I had chosen a color for the porch paint in consultation with a "color consultation" for which I was charged, but somehow in the shuffle, when it came time to paint the porch, nobody had any idea and more time was lost. read more

I bet these folks do great work and I would have loved to had the opportunity to actually review that. Unfortunately, my review is only for the subpar communication I received when trying to schedule an estimate for exterior painting for the 2021 season. I only leave a review because I carefully research businesses prior to even contacting them and choose to only invest my time in a select few. I like to know if I won't even be given the consideration of a reply and I'm sure others would like to know this information as well, so I'm happy to share my experience for the greater good. I contacted Phinney Ridge Painting on 2/16/21 and received a reply on 2/17 and was told that they are scheduling exterior estimates on a limited basis on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10am-2pm. Those aren't the most convenient times because I also work but I responded and said I could do anytime between 10am-2pm on Tuesday in the next month if they just let me know what worked. I didn't hear back so I prompted them 2/19 and told them that I have a flexible schedule and could also make an appointment anytime in April too, just to let me know because I would like to have something on the calendar. No response from these folks so I concluded that they aren't interested in the job. TLDR, I think these folks seem to have plenty of business and aren't interested in yours. Edited to add: I contacted two other businesses (one on the same day and one a day later) both responded and scheduled estimates in the next 6 weeks, so it is possible to communicate with customers! Updating 2/25: After posting this review, I was immediately contacted via email and phone and was offered an appointment for an estimate. I was told that it's their busiest time shifting from interior to exterior and that they had made some changes to fit me in. I appreciate that, however, I really wish I didn't have to leave a Yelp review for that to happen. Updating 3/11: The owner, Nik, came out to do my estimate on 3/11. He's a very personable guy and was clearly very knowledgeable about his business. He took the time to explain his process and answered my questions. He got us a quote by the next day. The job required significant patching of wallboard, and the technical work done by Luis is flawless! I am beyond thrilled with job Phinney Ridge Painting has done with our home! We contacted them late in the season 2019 and had Kelly out for a bid very quickly. He was very knowledgeable and explained their pricing and paint options, I felt very comfortable in the steps and plan. We have a 1942 home that needed outdoor painting. There were several other wear-and-tear issues that Phinney Ridge was able to address. While it was too late in the season to paint, we had our gutters repaired and some damaged flashing fixed before it rained. Once the weather got nicer, they were in close contact with us about getting started. We communicated primarily by email, and the entire team were always very quick to respond! Jason was our head painter, he was so great! The work is impeccable. He worked several weekends, and worked hard up until the pandemic stopped work. They were back right after the home construction could restart and weather allowed. Jason answered my questions, which may have been copious, and provided good advice when issues came up. They cleaned up after everyday and were only minimally disruptive (since we were working from home for much of the work, we have a dog so it's not really their fault). Having a "one-stop shop" for other services besides painting was also great. Several repair issues came up during the work that may have caused a work slowdown. Connor and his carpenters were out for bids on this new work and turned it around quickly! This included repairing a rotten support on our elevated garage and building a new gate. These projects look amazing and give me such piece of mind. I would not hesitate to recommend Phinney Ridge Painting. It was worth the wait. We paid on the higher end, but you get what you pay for! I requested an estimation through their website. Sam one of the owners came over ( Beginning of June 2019). Our project was to get crown molding, framing and new paint for the interior of our 850ft condo. There were a few wonky things in our condo like popcorn ceiling, some uneven walls and strange angles. Sam had good ideas about how to work with these minor setbacks to make it look more polished and up to date. I also loved that they will pay for you to consult with a color specialist to find the right color for your space. This was a big deal for me because I was having a hard time narrowing down paint samples. I used The Phinery ( Becky Ducsik). Becky helped me find the perfect colors. So once we signed contracts. It took a couple of months to get on the books. At first they said it would be August but then got pushed to November. But honestly it was worth the wait. First was the carpentry work. The lead on that was Connor. He was awesome. He came over and did a walk through and helped us make decisions about the crown molding and framing and where it should go. This was so helpful because i had never picked out framing or molding before and he was a great listener and had wonderful suggestions. The carpentry was flawless and the clean up was spotless. I could not of been happier with the results. So onto the painting. Falco was the lead painter. Falco was so awesome!! I have had painters before but he was off the charts amazing! Such attention to detail and my walk through with him i could not find one drop of paint out of place. He has a great personality and wonderful communication. So that is the play by play. A great experience overall. You might have to wait a little bit because they stay pretty busy and they were not the cheapest bid i got. Don't bother with Phinney Ridge Painting. In response to owner Nik, your partner Sam came to my house (on 16th Ave NW in North Ballard/Crown Hill)to give me a bid for patching a ton of drywall holes made by electricians as well as a quote for reinforcing a bedroom ceiling. My ceiling is sagging under the weight of a huge drywall patch on plaster. Ask Sam about this. He'll tell you he stood in my bedroom and pushed up on my ceiling. Then he told me the job was too much for his guys. Especially since I had rats presence in the insulation above the ceiling. It is a complex problem not unusual to 90 year old homes. Sam just didn't want to deal with it. Ask Sam and he should remember. Hi probably tell you he didn't want to deal with my job. I've got a copy of a bid from you in my files. I'm not posting a review of work done. Unfortunately I was not able to get as far as being able to choose them for work, because I was never even able to get a quote. I went back and forth with Phinney Ridge for over two weeks trying to schedule an estimate. I was never even able to respond enough to schedule them to come do a quote. We only communicated a few times back and forth during that time, because it would typically take 4-5 days for them to respond. I've heard good things about them, so I suspect that if you are able to get them on a job, they may do good work. However, in my experience, project communication is a very important part of this kind of work, and they perform miserably at that. read more

We've had Phinney Ridge replace deck railings, then staining railings and deck; painting front porch, railings, trellis; and installing holiday lights. We had a bunch of problems with weather so jobs took awhile to finish and some of the deck stain didn't take, but we were so impressed with the company's immediate inspection of the deck and then re-do the entire job at no cost since the stain was covered by warranty. Excellent communication with us even with all of the typical and unpredictable weather interruptions. We will definitely have them do any big painting jobs in the future. We got a quote from Phinney in 2017, it was a lot, the most expensive quote we had. For a year i looked around and saw their work. Anywhere I saw their sign I would inspect and talk to the owners if I could. In 2018, we hired them for our 100yr old craftsman that had been neglected. It was worth the $$. Phinney Ridge came out and painted the outside of our home during the summer of 2020 and we were so pleased we had them come back this spring to paint a large shed that we had built late last year. Our painter was Sam Licio and he did a wonderful job despite the fact that we had a slightly offbeat paint scheme. He was professional, friendly and courteous.
