Some restaurants become favorites because they're fancy. Others become favorites because they consistently do the basics exceptionally well. Philly Steak & Subs falls squarely into the second category, and that's why it has become one of our regular lunch spots. We typically eat in for lunch but tonight ordered takeout, and our standing order is a full-size Philly cheesesteak (no tomato, lettuce, or mayo) with fries for $18.56 plus tip. We split it between the two of us, and it's always more than enough food. I happily finish the fries. The sandwich is generously sized and packed with plenty of well-seasoned beef. That's really what keeps us coming back, the flavor. The meat is cooked and seasoned just right, and the fries have a seasoning of their own that pairs nicely with the sandwich. Located in the shopping center at Atlantic Avenue and Millbrook Road, parking is plentiful, making it an easy stop for either dine-in or takeout. The dining room is spacious with plenty of seating, though tonight we took our food home. One thing that has always stood out is the staff. They're consistently warm, friendly, and welcoming. On my latest visit, they were enjoying a World Cup match, and we spent a few minutes chatting about the Argentina-Egypt game. It's a small interaction, but those moments are part of what makes this place feel comfortable and familiar. There are restaurants you visit once to try them, and there are restaurants that quietly become part of your routine. Philly Steak & Subs has become one of those places for us. Good food, generous portions, friendly people, and consistently enjoyable meals, that's a combination that keeps us coming back. read more

Good little spot for a delicious cheesesteak. Ordered delivery and food was still hot when arrived via Uber. Easy ordering through the application that I was able to download quickly via the App Store. Ordered two Philly cheesesteaks and a turkey sub. All were good. Also had some fries which were crispy and tasty. Will definitely go back whenever I get the hankering for a tasty cheesesteak. read more

A Community Favorite for Over 20 Years! I've been coming to Philly Steak N Subs for over 20 years, and it's hands-down one of the best spots in town. This place is truly a staple in the community - the kind of local gem that keeps people coming back generation after generation. The cheesesteaks and chicken cheese subs are always made fresh, served piping hot, and absolutely delicious every single time. The quality has never wavered over the years, which is rare to find these days. You can tell they take pride in every sandwich they make. The owner is one of the friendliest people you'll meet - I'm always greeted with a warm smile and genuine hospitality. It's that kind of welcoming atmosphere that makes Philly Steak N Subs more than just a restaurant -- it feels like home. If you're looking for great food and even better people, this is the place. Philly Steak & Subs - Philly Chicken Cheeses teak and Battered Fries - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Raleigh, North Carolina

The owners here are extremely kind and welcoming and this is a cheesesteak gem found in a random shopping plaza in Raleigh. They serve hot and tasty cheesesteaks fresh off the grill with warm bread and melted cheese. The meat tastes delicious too. The fries are hot and crispy. They offer chicken cheesesteaks too as well as some other sub options. This is definitely an authentic, hole in the wall, and delicious cheesesteak experience. If you don't like the look of the inside, take the food to go! read more

Do not come here for the atmosphere, come here for the food to go. The Philly cheese steak to go is the way to go, they pile on the toppings and wrap the sandwich in foil, and the stem makes the bread really good. The fries are good as well put some kind seasoning on them that makes them really good. The price on the sandwiches is really affordable as well read more

Haven't been here since the early 2000s when I was in high school, it use to be my hole in the wall spot. It still taste the same & friendly service! Got to get the Philly cheese and eat it there because all that gooey cheese and grease will soak that bread if you don't eat fast enough. It's the legit stuff! read more

Philly Steak 'N Subs has been around a long time. It's under new ownership and he seems very nice and happy to please. My husband's philly steak had even more meat than usual and the onion rings are to die for! It's not new and fancy at all, but a lot of times the best places aren't the fanciest places. He will keep getting our business...almost every Friday night! read more

Guy seemed really nice. The Philly was great, and I don't even normally love phillies, much less mushrooms. I wish it had more hot sauce too, but oh well! Very tasty, and the fries are those great ones with the dangly bits. Pretty great serving size too, so you can pretty easily share or have leftovers. read more

I'm not sure how long it's been around. But it's a raleigh staple that we don't have many of anymore. Super good. The appearance might be a turn off. Don't let it be. read more

This place will put a smile on your face for days!! The sandwiches are top tier! Bread is fresh! The drinks are made fresh daily too, the kool aid is my favorite & The two men that run the place are the greatest, they have the best services & will make sure you are taken care of!! The place is so cozy you'll really feel so comfortable, I'm in love with this place. If I can give them 10 stars I would. If you in a mood for a good Philly or chicken Philly I say this place is the go to. Anyone says anything opposite of this review is lying. The price was great, but the restaurant really needs to be cleaned. This place also looks outdated. I craved a steak and cheese sub, so I decided to try this place after searching for a new local restaurant online...Also, the fries and steak could have been seasoned better. On a good note, the cook and the cashier were friendly. read more

I been visiting this place for a few years no, I just decided to review it, I really like the philly steak sub, it's really good and tasty. I would be great if they clean this place throughly I think I would attract more customers, that's my only complaint about this place, other then that the food is good. read more

Went here tonight because I had a taste for a Philly cheesesteak. Walked in and it was empty just one guy working the place. The inside of this place needs some serious deep cleaning and remodeling it was old and dirty , made me a little skeptical to order from there. I decided to go with the cheesesteak combo which was a 6 inch and included fries and a small drink. The food was really good and a nice portion size , I just wish the place looked more clean and presentable in the inside . read more

We stumbled into Philly Steak & Subs and it was exactly what we were looking for, for a quick lunch. The man behind the counter was friendly and started off by asking us if we wanted fries since they take a bit longer and he wanted to get them in the fryer. We opted in for onion rings! My husband and I split the 12inch and it was plenty for both of us for lunch. My husband noted that it seems like they make their own bread here since they at least bake it off fresh with all the bread pans we saw. I thought the steak Philly was solid, could have used a touch more seasoning. I liked that they fire off everything to order and nothing is sitting around. The onion rings came out hot and crispy. For the price I would way rather eat here than spend the same amount of money at a fast food spot. We will be back! read more

Ive been here a few times now after finding it on yelp and this place consistently delivers. Its a no frills cheesesteak place that only has like 4 subs on the menu which i dont think ill ever try because the cheesesteak is real good. They are also very cheap and the staff is always super nice. be sure you are calling the right one for a takeout location as they have two locations and they always make sure I know which one im calling because i guess thats a problem. They have plenty of parking as its in a strip mall and they also bake their own bread which is a plus. read more

Stopped for cheesesteaks with my wife today after someone recommended it in a local FB group. My son recently finished four years in Philly so I'm having serious withdrawal. I was more impressed than her. I thought they nailed the filling but the bread was poor. Hopefully it's not their regular supplier. It was super soft and barely able to hold itself together. The onion rings were good but not outstanding. Sure the decor is weak and cleanliness is questionable but I'll overlook a lot for tasty, authentic food. My only concern was that while the guy who took our order had a mask, the guy right behind him didn't. They're quite a drive for us but I'll probably give them another try. read more

Well folks! I finally had the opportunity to try the Philly's here. I was disappointed. Not much flavor. Quality of meat is comparable with the price. The fries were good but not the kind of fries I expected. These fries are almost battered. I like a Idaho potato in its purest form possible, then fried. These aren't it. I won't say it's not worth a try because everyone is different when it comes to certain standards but I HAVE had better Philly's. Service was friendly. 3 stars folks. read more

I really want to give this place 4 stars because the food is so good, but they really need to do something about the cleanliness of the place. The glass on the front is covered in grease and fingerprints. The walls are faded and covered in food residue. The floors need a good scrubbing. They know how to make a perfect cheesesteak and the fries are cooked just right, but they are losing a lot of customers because of the condition of the place. read more

This cheesesteak probably would've been really good, but there was so much Mayo I couldn't eat it. More mayo than I've ever received on any sandwich--a super thick layer on BOTH pieces of bun. I'm not picky about toppings, but this was inedible. Such a sad waste of a foot long sub. I'd def try this place again but next time will be sure they leave it off. Unless you're looking for a Philly-salad-sandwich I recommend you ask them to leave off the Mayo. read more

Yum! For my first time, I enjoyed the Philly Cheesesteak and fries. It filled me right up! Want to go back for more...later!

Lemme tell y'all somethin- this place is the real deal & I mean it. If you're looking to go get an authentic, greasy, fantastic cheesesteak, look no further. Best I've had since moving to the South. Anybody who complains about the place being old & outdated does not understand what a true philly steak experience is. If you'd rather eat a cardboard sandwich but get treated like you're at the Holiday Inn- go to JMikes. Me, I'm staying right here. 10/10 read more

It was hard to tell if this place was even open. All of the light up signs were turned off. When I got closer I saw the "Open" sign was lit. The place was run down and not the cleanest. They have maybe five menu items. I ordered the Philly Steak. It was ready in maybe two minutes. This is a red flag that the meat was pre-cooked. That's not very appealing. He just warms it up. The bread was basic and not the best quality. The sandwich was below average. I'm not interested in another visit. read more

The bread is homemade and so good. I always have to be different and get half chicken and steak in the sub. The lunch specials are great. Best cheesesteak you can get outside of Philly. You can get a whole for $10.00 with sub, fries and a drink. You will love the food a lot. They have great customer service and they will pack your plate too. They love all of their customers. I love going here during lunch time before I got to my second. They have amazing coupons online and the atmosphere is great. read more

I have been coming here for at least 10 years. I don't know, but it has been a while. They are good place to grab a Steak & Cheese. But I will say, come during their busy times. They need to work on the food quality during their slow times. But that is just my opinion. But this is the only place in Raleigh I will get a cheese steak sandwich. Ok, I will go to their other Raleigh location as well. #313 read more

Y'all Definitely enjoyed my Philly Steak... Best around Raleigh! Good Service and all.

I stopped by the Philly Steak'n Subs unexpectedly one night. I had wanted to grab dinner at the Char Grill, but by the time I got there it was closed. The only place I found open nearby was the Philly Steak'n Subs, so they ended up getting my business. The sub I got from here was absolutely fantastic. I ordered it with extra jalapeños (I'm a fan) and the guy coked them along with the meat for my cheesesteak so all of the meat got a little bit of the flavor from the peppers (yum). I'll admit I had some pretty low expectations for this place when I stopped by, but they far exceeded them. I would definitely go again. read more

This place is absolutely filthy... The walls appears to have soda or something that splashed on the wall years ago and was never cleaned. The tables and paper napkin holders were gross and sticky. The Raleigh health department must not know how to get there, because there is no way it would pass even with the most liberal rules and regulations. Guys, you need to hire a professional cleaner to come in and get the place up to par. IN NY, you would of been shut down already. On a positive note, The cheese steak was good, but the filth overshadows the food. I will never be back for sure. read more

I've been eating at this place since I was a senior in high school. There's a pretty simple reason behind the continued support of this restaurant; they don't skimp on the meat. If you're like me, you can't stand going somewhere like Quizno's or Jimmy John's, and getting 3lbs of lettuce with 3 thinly sliced pieces of steak on your steak sandwich. If I wanted a salad, I'd have ordered a salad... but I ordered a steak and cheese sandwich, so please, don't make me beg for the steak! There's not a lot of variety here; you've got your chicken and steak options for the meat, and a mild selection of vegetables (mushrooms, lettuce, peppers, onions, etc). However, despite the simplicity, they're great at what they do. You get a generous amount of meat, which is highly seasoned and full of flavor. I'd dare to say you won't find a better flavor for a Philly steak and cheese sandwich in all of Raleigh. You definitely won't leave hungry. Also, the food is prepared and served fresh. Fresh bread is baked frequently, the meat is marinading all day and then cooked right in front of you, etc. The downsides are essentially cosmetic. The place looks very dated; the walls are faded, the floors are old, the menu looks like it's 50 years old. It could definitely use an overhaul for the sake of appearance. But I wouldn't detract a point for that. The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star instead of a 5-star rating is because of the fries. They don't go well with the sandwich, and quite frankly, they're mediocre. There's no taste to them, and they're incredibly dissatisfying. Alternative side selections would bring it to a 5. A final note; while the taste is great, I wouldn't recommend the place for kids. The food is piping hot when it's served, and they might burn their hands picking through the sandwich. Also, as mentioned prior, the fries are quite mediocre, and kids seem to love tasty french fries. read more

Philly Steak & Subs - Philly chicken sandwich by far the best - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Raleigh, North Carolina

Mediocre at best. I was very excited to find a new "Philly Cheesesteak" place to check out now that I live in Raleigh. The reviews sounded good enough to convince me to go and give it a try and now that I have I can say there was nothing impressive about the cheesesteak I had. I think the place should take Philly out of their name since they do not serve a real philly cheesesteak. When I went in I asked the guy behind the counter if they had cheese whiz for their cheesesteaks and he replied we use provolone.... I should have turned around and walked out then but I saw a sign that says they make their own bread so I figured I would still give them a try. The food came out quick which was good and they werent busy. The price for the combo/special is $6 total for a 6" fries and a drink. Good price and lots of meat on the sub but there was nothing great at all about it. The bread reminded me of White Castle's bread their burgers have. It was really soft and soaked up grease. The meat was pretty bland and there was hardly any cheese on it at all. If this place could at least learn to use cheese whiz when claiming to have "philly cheesesteaks" I think it would be worthy of 3 stars and if the meat didn't taste like generic steak-umm I would say 4 stars but they do not. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's cheap and there was a lot of meat on the sandwhich but not good at all. I likely won't be back unless they decide to change things. read more

They make a decent version of the Philly cheese steak, although I don't think it is an authentic Phllly version as the name of the place would suggest. I had the special 6 inch cheese steak with fries and drink which is $5.99 + tax. The meat was seasoned a bit too much where you couldn't really taste the meat, only the seasoning, and peppers and onions. I did like the bread which according to a sign on the door is made fresh daily. The decor is rather dated and tacky here and they have a pretty low health sanitation score of 92. Probably won't be a regular stop for me, but as I said earlier it's decent and a pretty good price for the special lunch deal. read more

I was looking for a real Philly cheesesteak after looking at a video. A coworker told me about this place before but I never went because of the reviews. But I wanted one so I went. Im sort of torn on this place because the food was as delicious as any hole in the wall, but in terms of cleanliness this establishment is beyond a dive! It is filthy and Im surprised they haven't gotten a lower health inspection rating than they have. With how little care is taken in overall cleanliness it makes you weary of even eating here cause who know how food is handled when customers aren't looking if they care that little about the rest of the place. If I ever return which I probably won't just because of how bad it was, and they happened to clean the place up I will review accordingly but I cannot even really recommend this restaurant unless you want to disregard possible cleanliness issues and take the food to go. read more

My husband and I were excited to try this place out as we both love cheese steaks. We were both very disappointed. The sandwiches were just thrown together very unevenly which made the sandwich hard to eat. The beef tasted like it was beef jerky just rehydrated, so they deff use low quality beef. Onion rings and fries were nothing special, just frozen and not even tossed in salt afterwards. And the establishment itself is dirty!! I'm all for a good hole in the wall but this place was just down right filthy. read more
