The building manager (Joe) and owner (Henry) are LIARS and THREATENED me with a lawsuit because I had the nerve to ask for my security deposit back when I moved out! Can you believe that!? I paid on time every month! The room was in better shape AFTER I left than when I moved in! I should have known this was a bad place when they said they accept CASH ONLY as payment and DO NOT GIVE RECEIPT of the rent payments! I also asked for a written contract which the owner said he would send over, but never did. We only had an ORAL CONTRACT. The building manager lied saying I never paid for the last month when I did, then when I said I would call the owner to remedy this, the owner called me before I could and cussed me out over the phone saying I threatened his building manager (which I did not) and then threatened me with a lawsuit! Totally insane! I rented here for over 2 years, and stayed mostly because moving all the equipment out would have been a huge hassle. During the 2 years, someone with access to my room (building manager, owner, or someone they're associated with access to the room keys) came into my PRIVATE space and BROKE EQUIPMENT! Half the lugs on my toms were broken due to someone playing my drums incorrectly! The tom was untunable and I needed to order parts from the manufacturer to fix it. I mentioned this to the building manager AND owner and nothing was ever done. About a month later, even though my space was on the 1st floor of a 2 floor building, WATER started dripping from the ceiling onto electronic equipment! I notified the building manager, and said he was aware, the roof was leaking, but I was never notified! No reparations were made for the damage that occurred in this instance either! This place is run by the scum of the Earth and should be avoided at all costs! There are all kinds of vagrants hanging out around here as well, and the security here is terrible. I saw a drunk walk into the studio, and urinate out the front door! I notified Joe, but nothing was ever done. Recently I got the chance to check it out in person when we stopped in to browse two Saturdays ago during a day trip to Philly. It's located on the same block/in the same building as Union Transfer, the music venue. The music store has two floors. The main floor/street-level floor showcases electric guitars, basses, and some synthesizers. The second floor has acoustic instruments - guitars, basses, ukuleles, and I think I even saw a mandolin. The repair service area/shop is also upstairs. I remember the big beautiful windows that let in natural light in the space, and rugs and couches to sit on the second floor. The people working there were friendly and ask if you want to try out any of the instruments. You'll see bowls with "Russo" picks here and there too. It's a cool instrument shop. Really high quality instruments there, and nicer than the inventory at a GC. One apparent difference is that the instruments on display at Russo are adjusted and ready to play, in contrast to a big box music/gear store where instruments are mounted straight out of the manufacturer box. It's an easier/better experience for the customer figuring if they like what's in their hands at Russo. And even though it's a boutique store, it has a larger inventory than you would expect. An aces shop, highly recommended!

Our kid's school requires she take instrument lessons, and honestly, I was prepared for it to be a battle. Luckily, with Philly Music Lessons and her wonderful teacher, Jenny, she LOVES playing the violin. Jenny brings warmth, energy, and enthusiasm to every lesson. She listens to my kid and communicates with her in a way that feels open and interested. My child has progressed far more quickly than I ever dreamed, and she actually looks forward to practicing daily. Lessons are the highlight of her week! (Well, lessons and movie night lol.) The office staff at Philly Music Lessons are very helpful, especially with scheduling, and all our communication has been super smooth. I'm so grateful to Jenny and everyone at PML for teaching music with a focus on curiosity and joy. Highly recommend! read more

I learned to play a guitar as a kid and then soon after college, I lost the habit and joy of playing. I would pick it up every now and then but would drop it again soon after. I decided to take lessons again to give me the structure and routine to reestablish the habit of playing. And after a few months of learning from Joey, I have a profound better understanding of the instrument, method techniques that have risen my skill to a new level, and most importantly, a renewed love for playing music. Joey is a great communicator who understand where I was with guitar, and where I wanted to go, and implemented a simple and effective lesson plan that I'm able to use in daily practice. I couldn't be happier with my experience and would recommend his services to any student at any level. read more

We moved to Philadelphia from Seattle. I was searching for a new guitar teacher for my 11-year-old son and found Joe Primavera. He is the BEST! We love his style--very relaxed, yet professional. He is incredibly talented and is flexible with regard to teaching style. My son likes to play songs he has heard without music and Joe was able to listen and quickly come up with a plan on the spot which seems like a unique ability to me. He comes to our home, which makes everything easier. He holds recitals for his students. Philly Music Lessons as a company is very easy to work with thanks to Joe and his fantastic website and payment technology. Joe has made our move to Philadelphia easier because my son really liked his guitar teacher in Seattle before we left. read more

I am a beginning flute student. I was in Philly during August to visit my daughter and I didn't want to go a month without a class. I contacted the school and they said that Chelsea would be willing to provide weekly classes during the month (and you have no idea how rare that is for a teacher to take a student for such a short period). Philly Music has been great! They care about your goals and take time to make sure that they match you with an instructor that will help you reach your goals. After a 20 year hiatus of piano playing, I started taking lessons with them two years ago during lock-down. At 40, their instructors have taught me so much - from getting back into the groove, learning better hand positions, learning rhythm, writing music, and memorizing music. Each instructor that I have worked with has shared their particular strengths and made my lessons enjoyable. I look forward to starting in-person lessons with them this fall! read more

I took intermediate piano classes with Nate at the Fishtown location for about three months. Nate is an extremely knowledgeable and attentive instructor and a talented musician. If you want performance lessons, the price is way higher. I also found that it isn't a warm and welcoming place.
