I was referred to Dee Hurford by a realtor. Just moved from Boston to Kennett Square townhouse. We…read morewere presented with an offer for free consultation and 30% discount on all furniture. Dee advised us that she works on one project at a time, we discussed budget and scoping down the design to two levels of the townhouse. We emphasized that we were looking for an interior designer to help us keep things simple, calming and inviting. Dee spent a lot of time measuring our spaces. In hindsight, this should have given me a hint. She was less interested in our needs, interests and what we already had. She presented us with a design way over budget, the design was not for the space discussed and charged us design fees that were higher than a vacation week at Disney for three. When she mentioned her hourly rate I almost fell off my seat. It is more than an experienced professional engineer in their peak. What was astonishing was there was nothing creative about her design - she is all about expensive fabric and upholstering. I don't need an interior designer to tell me I need counter stools under the counter or bench in the entry way. I can figure it out myself. I need an interior designer to figure how I can design my home for MY needs with the latest tools/techniques not the most expensive tools and techniques. Dee seemed to be about the most expensive items. She has put me off hiring an interior designer for a decade. I am not sure where the offer for free consultation or discount furniture went, I had to eat an enormous design fee for a design that was someone else's house, not mine. Dee is very meticulous and detail oriented about what is important to her, not the client. (By the way she was not up to date on the latest paint, I had to ask her to research the latest ratings on paint)
