I'm in to visit my mom from Texas and it's still a 45 minute drive to get to this station. I got there at 6:15 so I'd be sure to be early. The manager got there at 6:30 and still couldn't manage to get the doors open until 7:10, I was first to go in and I told them I just needed everything checked so I know my mom is safe driving. I was asked, "Are you leaving it with us?" I said no, "I called to make sure I could wait and it was actually suggested that I wait." Then I was told, "Well I don't alignments until 8." (I'm wasn't even sure it needed an alignment, so I don't know how they did!?) That's all he said and walked off. By then, they had every bay full of cars that came after me. I got his attention and asked if he was even going to look at it until 8, he wobbled off and said, "Naw, probably not." So, I just drove to another tire service station in town that opened at 8. Much better choice!! These "professionals" weren't friendly or helpful at all.

Avoid EC Auto Repair in Elk City, OK. We limped in with a…read moreblown turbo and were met with confusion, severe incompetence, and shady pricing. The issue was obvious, yet staff struggled to diagnose it, couldn't handle basic information, and entered our diesel truck as a gas V10--then wondered why parts didn't match. We were quoted $2,800 with no clear itemization. When we supplied our own part, labor mysteriously jumped from $180/hr to $248/hr. They also tried to tack on $300 for an oil change, another $300 for unnecessary fuel treatment, and a questionable $98 "shop fee" they falsely claimed was required by Oklahoma law. The promised loaner vehicle suddenly turned into a rental once we pushed back on pricing. At that point, we decided to do the repair ourselves--it took about 12 bolts and basic tools. To top it off, the owner became aggressive, attacking me while trying to get my keys and called police while we were finishing the job. The officer was professional, but it says a lot when police are a regular presence there. Bottom line: Disorganized, dishonest, and hostile. This shop appears to take advantage of out-of-town customers. Save yourself the headache and go anywhere else. Every local we talked to said to steer clear of this over priced and shady place.

The windows are covered and you can only catch a glance of the interior. I would love to see inside the building and the guest accommodations next door. Lucille raised three children here! The old gas pumps are in good condition and there is a picnic table under the drive-thru area next to the pumps. Super easy to find on Historic Rt 66 that runs along I-40. Parking in front of the guest accommodations. A very nice preserved site.

Lucille's…read moregas station is one of the icons that has been lovingly restored and cared for, even though the station's namesake has sadly passed away. You can't get gas here and it offers no services, but it's located right off the main highway with plenty of parking and amazing photo ops. The little white service station, built in the 1930s, is one of only two upper-story porch style stations left on Oklahoma's stretch of Route 66! It was built with the owner's living area above the station and has a delightful American Craftsman style architecture. The vintage gas pumps remain, and there's a nifty historical marker with more information about the building. Lucille's was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in the late 90s. Worth a stop, and bring your camera!

The store was surprisingly clean with a pretty good selection of both fountain and bottled drinks. They have snacks and hot food as well. There isn't anything super impressive about the selection, but for an emergency, it works. I have a big complaint, and I'm sure this will be super silly. Last year, my sister stopped here with me in the car during an emergency. I didn't know then where we were, but I verified it later. Anyway, they had Slush Puppies. Yes, the original Slush Puppies. For you youngsters, Slush Puppies were a staple in the late '80s and early '90s. Similar to Icee or Slurpee, they were unique because you squirt the syrup into the cup, then add the ice. It would blend perfectly. Was it magic? Was it sorcery? Who knows, it was just awesome, and the ice couldn't be beat in texture. Sadly, this location did away with them. It was the first time I had seen them since I was a kid and apparently I won't see them again any time soon. I'm so sad!!!
