Phill-Air is probably the BEST flight school in the state of Delaware. You must consider many things when choosing a flight school and Phill-Air Aviation offers it all. The flight instruction is Top Notch and really can be compared too none. If you want to learn everything there was to know about flying you have found the right place. However If you just want to get a certificate and just get flying Phill-Air isn't for you. These instructors train safe highly educated professionals. Phill-Air will train the weekend flyer whom will fit in well and the professional pilot ready for the military or the airlines. Your training will go beyond your expectations. When you solo for the first time at Phill-Air you will be the most prepared pilot and there will be no question on your abilities. I am finishing my Instrument Rating and will be combing it with my Commercial Rating and I look forward to being one of the best to instruct future students. I have been with Phill-Air for over 10 years. Also I should add that Phill-Air doesn't stop at flight training...they have the best flight mechanics on staff at the best price.....I can say that because people come from the PA, VA, DE and MD areas for service. I came to Phill-Air when I was in the middle of my student pilot's license. I wanted to find another kind of instructor & teaching style than what I'd already invested into so far, especially because I'd just purchased a plane. I also had no bookwork knowledge, and I wasn't sure where to begin that as far as the best resources. Thank god for Kamal. As a CFI, Kamal, was excellent. She has high standards when it comes to teaching and piloting. She is also serious about safety. There are many safety habits, good habits, and knowledge that she hammered into my brain that have kept me a safe private pilot today. When I took my practical, I had it with an examiner who was a former FAA investigator. Throughout the flight exam, he could only compliment "Kamal taught you well!" Needless to say, that was my first and last pratical with the examiner for my private pilot's ticket. Now two years after my license, I can see how my piloting skills are more refined than many other pilots. Phill-Air was worth all my time, money, and energy especially when such an exceptional CFI is teaching me. I'm very thankful that there's an excellent, strong flight school in this area. Where do I begin. Well, for starters, the people who run this pathetic excuse for a flight school are unethical. They were charging me more than the agreed upon rate for a while while assuring me that any overcharges would be applied to our agreed upon price. That, of course, was a lie, for when I finally declined to continue paying at an inflated price which was far above the agreed rate, they refused to refund me anything that was overpaid. Second, the prices they do charge are OUTRAGEOUS... I mean, they're almost laughable. Consider this: the flight school is located in a fairly remote, fairly small town -- Dover, Delaware. I lived in Dover so this is not a slight to Dover; I like Dover. But Dover, DE isn't New York, Los Angeles, or Miami. Yet, remarkably, the prices they charge to rent their planes are actually quite a bit more expensive than marquee airports in those cities. (I know from personal experience in both LA and NY; but don't take my word for it, just go on any FBO's website and see for yourself.) They charge $115 per hour for a Cessna 150. Justice Aviation, an FBO at Santa Monica Airport in Los Angeles charges $98. And to add insult to injury, Phill-Air's 150 is a real beater. The thing had all sorts of problems, which was probably due in no small part to how cheap the owners of Phill-Air are. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the flight instruction you get there is not even third-rate. I wound up terminating my flight training with Phill-Air when I was about half-way through getting my private pilot license. I completed the training at an excellent school in Maryland. (Mind you, Phill-Air was only 5 miles from my house, and I dropped them to drive over 60 miles to the Maryland flight school... that should serve as some indication how awful Phill-Air is.) The CFIs at the new school had to re-teach me just about everything; my instructor at Phill-Air had given me instruction that was flat incorrect. She'd say something, and I'd get confused because I read to the contrary in the Jeppesen textbook, and she'd just respond that the book must be wrong. UNREAL! And this is not the sort of instruction you want to get wrong - flying can be incredibly safe, or incredibly dangerous, depending on the pilot. No thanks to Phill-Air, and thanks to the other school, I got my private pilot license and am now working on an instrument rating. Consider all this when making the important decision of where you want to learn how to fly or work on a rating. read more

I've been flying with Phill-Air for over ten years. The aircraft are well maintained and rental fees are fair considering the price of av gas. Kamal is a knowledgeable and patient instructor who offers flexible hours to meet renters' needs. She is extremely thorough with all aspects of flying, from ground school to pre-flight to actual air time. She endorsed me for both fixed and retractable gear aircraft. I've had my private pilot's license for over thirty years, and I plan to pursue commercial rating. When I'm ready to take those steps, Phill-Air will be the first place I call. read more
