They know me when I call. They remember what's going on with me even before seeing my file. I must admit, even with great insurance with a previous employer, I totally neglected my teeth (had a cracked tooth that didn't bother me so I didn't bother with fixing it). I set aside a good chunk of FSA funds at my current employment, knowing I needed major dental work. I was NOT looking forward to this, but the doc made me feel very comfortable right from the start. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. The cleanings and fillings, although somewhat embarrassing on my end, were very comfortable. Dr. Birnbaum explains everything thoroughly before, during, and after each procedure. We always discuss my options (there are always multiple options) and he's honest about the pros and cons and likelihood of success...long-term and short-term. What's mind-blowing is the man works alone! I'm used to lying on that chair with an entourage hovering over my face. The doc works alone and he's incredibly efficient. I don't ever feel any pain when he's at work, but I can totally feel his multi-tasking in action! I never thought I'd say this, but I love my dentist!

I now have a mouth that is healthy and my bite is good and I continue to enjoy minimal problems due to the work he has done and the tooth guard he made for me, being a grinder caused me lots of problems. Now his office and practice works for me on a number of levels 1. Great staff that has been with him for years, all professional and lovely to be around making the visits not only stress free but enjoyable. 2. He has a great list of referrals to send you to if you need specialized care or procedures, all his referrals have been top notch from root canals, braces and periodontal work, I have had them all. You have to have a great dentist but they have to have a great list of people for the other work as well. 3. He makes sure that his work is right and he is conscientious about making sure your overall dental health is right and stays right. 4. His work is impeccable to say the least, my teeth look better, fit better and are in better shape than they have been in years, not only his work but his hygienists are all top notch and have taught me much better habits. 5. Best of all Dr. Siegal or John is a really nice person who makes the visit so pleasant along with my evening favorite Deborah the two of them are always keeping me relaxed and happy. I would happily recommend him to friends and have done so. I have seen him for 13 years and will do so as long as I can.

It saddens me to have to write this review for Dr. Ellis. I think that she's very knowledgeable and…read moredoes great quality of work. However, several months ago, she told me that I would need two inlay procedures done and since I trust her, I agreed to receive the treatment. She told me what the out-of-pocket costs would be but I wanted to double-check with my insurance first because this wasn't cheap work I needed done. The communication between her office and my insurance company was pretty terrible (perhaps nonexistent) but I eventually found out that these procedures were 100% covered by my insurance and so I shouldn't be paying for any of these out-of-pocket costs. Ever since telling her this, I've been completely ignored by her office. None of my calls or texts were ever returned, which surprises me because I've never been ignored by a medical professional before. I'm interested to hear the reason why I've been neglected as a client. I have the strong suspicion that her office doesn't like to deal with insurance and would rather work with patients who can pay all out of pocket. That's totally fine if that's your preference because it's your business....but then let me know before taking me on as a patient or at the very least, have the courage to tell me rather than leaving me in the dark!

TBH, she is good at identifying issues, but her bed manners..ugh... I came here to do the post after root-canal. I was so surprised (and scared) that there were water stains on the mirror she used (that was the mirror put in my mouth!) She found a cave under my gum during the process. She asked the guy at front-desk to take a picture of the bad teeth, and she was very careless when she was using the mirror leaning again my tongue. I felt so uncomfortable and finally asked 'what is going on here'. And yes, she finally told me there was a cave and the situation was more difficult than she thought. She told me I needed a surgery before she put the crown. Eventually, she finished the post and put a temporary filling and told me to come in the second day as there would be a specialist coming in. Third time I came here for the surgery. As I just got a new dental insurance, I was a little confused about how my insurance works regarding 'out-of-pocket' and 'maximum benefit' at the very beginning. I asked her if the 2k was 'out-of-pocket' or 'maximum', she was really rude and said with a high voice (I don't want to say she yelled at me) "do you know what maximum means?" Till then, I had no idea why she's this arrogant. During the surgery, she was supposed to take my temporary filling out first. It just took her forever to do that. She was so careless. When she was pulling that filling out, my jaw felt pain (not too much, but uncomfortable). During the surgery, when the specialist asked her to pass him something, she kept mistaking two different things. After the surgery, the prescription usually should be sent electronically to the CVS, but she just asked me to drop off. I am fed up with this. There are so many professional and nice dentists in New York. Choose wisely.

I had a tooth go full abscess while on the plane ride over and needed something done first thing the next morning. I found him on Google maps and chose because he was walking distance from my NY office. He took me right away and immediately referred me to his endodontist colleague (Dr. Edward Lipke) who was able to get me in that afternoon. My business trip was combined with my college reunion, and these two gentlemen really helped me have a productive trip and enjoyable holiday. I found Dr. Schwartz himself to be a nice guy. Apparently he is an accomplished magician, which helps with the kids. His office, which is admittedly "lived in", has magic props and stuff displayed. I wouldn't ding him for the state of his premises; he's clearly an older guy nearing the end of his career, and a big remodel (cosmetic and/or technology) doesn't make sense. It was quaint and warm and kind of Mayberry, at least to me. Definitely recommend.

That being said, my first visit to Dr. Schwartz's office was for a routine cleaning. I've always enjoyed the dentist and never understood why everyone always thought a trip to the dentist was such a bad thing. I understand now. The hygienist was so aggressive with my mouth!! Which I appreciate, and my super clean teeth appreciate, but OW!! I've never had a painful experience at the dentist until now. However, everyone was very polite and professional. I went back a few days later for a referral/ex ray results. This time, I met Dr. Schwartz. He took the time to sit down and discuss [results] with me, and then even took a look to make sure everything was good with my teeth etc. I will be returning to Dr. Schwartz, no doubt. He was super nice and informative, and very good at small talk!! I am also the WORST at getting myself to a doctor/dentist and once I've made an initial trip to one, chances are I will be too lazy to find someone else. Looks like my new dentist is Dr. Schwartz. I would recommend going in and checking it out for yourself.
