We were fortunate to find out about this new concert hall In July so we were able to procure tickets for our visit in September for a piano/symphonic concert. Due to illness, the original scheduled artist was unable to perform(we received an email notification a few days before). We were fortunate to hear Lars Vogt play Brahms Piano Concerto #2 and after intermission, Sibelius Sympnony #5. This piece showcased the incredible acoustics of the concert hall. While the hall may not be to everyone's taste, a previous review said the seat in front of him reclined and caused him discomfort. I know that neither ours nor the seats in front of us reclined as they were so steeply elevated from row to row, it was not possible. This was our first visit to a concert hall in the round(which is evidently the vogue in Europe- see the new hall in Berlin) and it was rather fun to be seated behind the double basses and to see the score from over their shoulders. The ride back to the Paris train stations was easy on the free Philharmonique-operated shuttle buses.
When you settle on the dates for your visit to Paris, I suggest you check the website and order tickets. The website is in english and the tickets arrived via post in less than a week. Given the iffy web browsing we've experienced in Paris I opted for a paper ticket rather than count on an electronique one. There's a jazz venue just next door, so if classical is not your thing, you'll surely find some reason to visit this great site. We will definitely return during our next stay in the city of lights. read more
