Terribly rude. Doesn't bill the insurance when covered nor do they tell you this before taking your vehicle. If you are covered, call your insurance, do not let an officer dispatch the tow company if you are covered. You will be paying out of pocket on a ridiculous bill until you get reimbursed. AND they will also charge you a $50 daily storage if you don't just pay it. I was charged $300 as a "custom bill" for a winch 15 feet out of a ditch onto a flatbed. I had my insurance company remove the vehicle the next morning. I was told it's $300 because the police called. Phelps is gouging thier own community. Ive literally had Jimmies cover the exact same service for $120. Beware!! read more

Broke down with the whole family in the Jeep. Including our cat! 90 deg day with no shade where we broke down. Phelps came to the rescue and picked us up quick. Towed our Jeep and trailer to a great nearby shop that they recommended. We were able to fit the family and cat in the tow truck so no waiting around in the heat. Phelps is fantastic. My motorhome broke down outside of Portland Michigan, none of the local towing companies would haul it back to Jackson for me or they wanted thousands of dollars to do it. I had my roadside assistance (Good Sam) call Phelps and they were willing to do it, they brought their heavy hauler all the way to Portland (70 miles from Jackson) to pick up my RV and bring it home. The driver even sent us on ahead and didn't need us to stay with it so I could get my kids home to bed. Driver dropped the motorhome in my driveway right where I wanted it and even made sure we were able to get it leveled correctly so it wouldn't roll. Awful Service! Avoid!! Insurance approved a 60-mile tow due to extenuating circumstances but after hours of back and forth the "correct" approval was unable to be completed (we had both verbal and email approval from insurance which was also given to Phelps'). We finally agreed to have car towed to local shop. Being from out of town asked for a shop recommendation from the tow truck driver; upon arrival at the shop it was determined the recommended shop does not service our vehicle (VW). At this point the driver was advised by Phelps' owner to either collect $50 from us or dump the car in the nearby carpool lot (vs another shop 7 miles away). Terrible customer service. read more

called Phepls last night when I needed to be pulled out of a ditch and they were great! They showed up very quickly, within 15 minutes and took care of me. After pulling my car out, he had me follow him to the gas station to take care of paperwork to ensure we weren't on the side of the freeway, where it is less dangerous. Also, price was very good. He mentioned if i would have called his competitor, I could have paid over double what I paid Phelps! read more

I would never recommend this company to anybody. Their drivers do not care about the safety of other. I drive truck and I am constantly seeing them put people in danger. They speed just to make a buck. They cut people just to make a corner and they will try to pass with on coming traffic with no regard to people's safety. I have called many times about their drivers dangerous actions and still nothing is done. This just goes to show that money is more important than people. Don't support this dangerous behavior by using their services. read more

first off i know phelps isnt crooked they just gaming the system. a year ago i had my truck towed 23 miles from westwood mall to brooklyn ford, phelps charged my 80 bucks ,no big deal, thursday my wife ha a miner collision with a telephone pole literally withing eyesight of our house, she called police who had the car towed to phelps. i went and looked at the car friday and was surprised to see just a little cosmetic damage on the front end ,{ she couldnt of been doing more then 4 or 5 mph} i popped the hood it opened, no leaks no puddles fluids all full ,airbag didnt deploy ,windshield not cracked , im trying to fiure out whe it was towed. clearly the police called phelps , well i just called phelps to see whn i could pick up the car {and drive it home} and was told i had to wait for insurance adjuster from progressive, i called progressive they called phelps to release the car, the person at phelps said as soon as we get the check from progressive they will let me take the car, im like seriously you think progressive is gonna stick ya with the debt, and i ask what was the towing charge, mind you was only towed 5 miles, are ya ready ? $625.00, i yelled what the fuk she repeated it, moral of the story we the people are being screwed over big time by insurance companies and vendors that use them, i wouldnt be surprised if the cop s dont get a kickback for haveing vehicles towed to certain places. read more

Called Phelps the other morning from Henry Ford for a flat tire. Put on my spare and I drive home. Spare had some rust on it and came loose so I called them back the next morning. They came out apologized to me repeatedly, towed my truck drove me half hour away home and are towing my fixed truck home. Very great full for them. read more

They towed my car after I was arrested.. When I received my car back the next day, there was no damage to the outside, although when I started it It was idling rough. The next day I noticed that it would reach high rpm and was not operating as it was before, and had incredible difficulty getting up hills. I went to drive it to my licensed mechanic (who sold me the car, and is a wonderful and friendly guy, being that he maintains all the cars for our family) and I made it about halfway (2 miles) before the car stopped moving, as if there was no trans fluid. I made contact to phelps towing multiple times before I got a response from the boss. Upon finally contacting him, he denied everything I said, and was laughing at my problems. I gave him my mechanics number, as he would not consider my word, and he laughed again as he said his lawyer would contact him. He has not contacted my mechanic at all. read more
