Harvest moon festival was happening at this monastery. They provided opportunities for the youth to participate in plays, signing and dancing and it was a fun lantern celebration. Beautiful place to visit.

If you can get pass the crowd (it was like new year in Santa Ana) and the crazy parking (people in the neighborhood was selling their private driveway and empty space in their yard as parking ... $5) when you can actually park for free along the sidewalk .... This could have saved a lot of people money if there were some signs posted. We went here to see the Jade Buddha and it was quite impressive... specially for someone who's not Budhist... The sculpture was surrounded by beautiful flowers and guarded by two dragons made out of fruits.. considering it's the last day of the showing... everything was pretty fresh and alive. I liked how everything is based on donations and people didn't take advantage of the crowd to make money.... I mean come on when you donate.. they even give you a little gift! Yes they did sale drinks for $3 bucks but no big deal. Two thumbs up for all the available seating on the grounds... and the dragon dance was super fun especially for all the little kids.

Serene temple on a hill top in rural Escondido. Multi level areas with large statues and garden spaces for quiet enjoyment. Charming overgrown plants abound in the ground and pots. The monastery shows that it is lovingly cared for. There are 2 small parking lots on site, most suitable for compact cars. Across the street is ample curb parking. Lovely to visit and pay respect especially during Tet Holiday.

Quaint and spacious temple tucked in Escondido. My parents and I dropped by for a visit but the main room was closed so we explored the outside. There are many statues and lots of open space. Parking lot is a tad small so I am not sure how parking would work when the temple holds events and ceremonies. It is odd that a temple is closed since all the temples in Orange County are always open and monks/nuns live in the temple. So I would suggest going on Sunday is your best luck to see the temple being completely open.

Ask the Community - Phap Vuong Monastery

    Is this open during covid?

Hi is the temple open 7 days a week and what hours can you come thank you?

It's open during weekend per the sign outside the gate. You can call for appointment if weekday.

    What are the visiting hours?

They are mainly open on Saturdays from 9 thru 3:00. Other hours can be arranged via appointment

Can you explore the grounds as an outsider? Coming from FL and it looks like an amazing place for a walk!

Yes. Come in on the week day,the place is very quiet, greenery and clean. You can walk around and relax. I usually come on Tue with some fresh flower basket and fresh fruits to offer to the Buddha.

There's a beautiful koi pond with some fish as big as 2 feet long. They did a great job putting up all the new year decorations, and it was very festive! The temple is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood, and the neighbors were kind enough to offer parking in front of their house. The monk and some of the regulars there were incredibly nice and welcoming. They had free vegetarian food served buffet style, as well as hot tea and coffee. It's nice to know there's a friendly temple that's not too far away. I look forward to visiting again.

Came here on a Sunday at 11:30am for a 49 day death anniversary. You can just ask the people who…read moreworship here about organizing that. The main room fit about 50 people. It's just like the size of a living room. So if you've got a large family or friends, I would probably go to another temple. They provide little cushions to sit on that look super comfy and the typical tables that look like chairs to put the Buddhist prayer books on top so you can read from while you're sitting on the ground. But they also provide chairs to sit on if you want to sit around the edges. The only downside is that parking here is pretty bad. It's just like a normal home but they configure it so that it's like a temple. Luckily my dad had a friend who lived across the street so we could park in his driveway. Every Sunday they sell vegetarian food. You can get a salad for $5. But the box is pretty small. They also sell a little case of seaweed. If you want a large quantity of food, you need to call ahead so they can make the food. Many people order food from online from this place. On this very day the head monk said that they were making 300 bowls of ramen!! That's a lot!! For lunch, we all got one plate of food with salad, 3 fried chips, and one banana wrapped thing. And a bowl of ramen which included some veggie meat, some veggies, a big mushroom, and half a boiled egg that was made in some way that wasn't directly from a chicken. The ramen brother was made by the head monk himself. He urged everyone to make sure to drink it all because he made it from vegetables and herbs he got. Next month they're going to extend the eating area so that it reaches all the way to the end of the backyard. Also in May, they have an event for Mother's Day at 10:30am so be sure to come by! 5 stars because you can't really judge a small temple like this who's just doing the best they can. The fact that they're even running this temple in a house is amazing itself.

If you're confused about where it's at, just keep doing down the road until you see the Buddhist flag and keep going up until you see the large parking spot on the right. Parking concerns? None at all! It's very large. It's very spacious here. Like said it was our first time and we were treated very warmly. They asked us to stay and eat for lunch but we said no but they kept nicely asking so we ended up staying to eat for a little. And wow! Was lunch so good! The plates were sooo big too. They were even nice to give us soup too when they said they were low on it. Thank you!

Anyone can come and pray, i always go near the kitchen and greet the monks there before praying and somehow you'll meet Ni Co Khanh she's very welcoming and generous, she'll inform you and help with any question and guide you. Some of them didn't speak english but Ni Co Khanh mostly there and would be happy to help you out. People are very welcoming and kind. Even though the language barrier but you can understand :) Anyone can come and pray anytime it's open for everyone but i would preferably to stop by near the kitchen or someone to greet first before i go inside to pray. Doc and hubs ate chicken skewers, and iced Thai coffee with their papaya salad. I opted for boat noodles(soup dish) choosing beef instead of pork. Hoitobo(glutton) you know who alias Pugsley finished the rest of it. Very Unique experience. Doc said next week they are having a special food event.
