We came here for a concert and even though we parked quite a ways away there were shuttle busses available. The walk to the concert area was .6 miles but the view was incredible. I can see why people want to live here. All of the employees were extremely friendly and helpful. One even told us to have a blessed evening . The concert was amazing but I felt sorry for the singer because it was windy and the air is dry here. Not a got for singing. We had a lovely time and the concert was fantastic. We decided to walk back to the parking and it was about 2 miles but a much enjoyable walk. read more

Tee'd off at 3PM on the hottest day of the recent August 2025 heat wave in Southern California. This course was one of the few that were open that day with tee times after noon as many were closing for maintenance and simply from how hot it was. The course was beautifully kept, greens were excellent and the marshall routinely checked up on us if we needed cold towels and water along with maintaining the pace of play. A wide variety of tees to choose and play from and well worth the cost of the round. read more

Finally had the courage and confidence to play here. I reserved tee time for a foursome on their website. On day of we paid at the pro shop. He was very nice. The cart guys too. Golf towels and bottled water provided. Two holes we were given a heads up - hole 16 is where the 19 foot bunker is. And hole 17 - the island shot named for Alcatraz Island aka the Rock. There are golf towels for purchase - "I survived Alcatraz". We didn't but we bought a couple of towels anyway. Being a Pete Dye designed course you can expect a bunch of bunkers and undulated fairways. We had fun and would love to play this course again. read more

Beautiful and challenging course! The fairways are in excellent condition -- lush, well-maintained, and a pleasure to play on. The course design features some very unique holes that keep things interesting throughout the round. I'd rate the difficulty at about 7 out of 10: enough to challenge experienced players, but still enjoyable for mid-level golfers. Scenic views of the mountains and water features add a lot to the overall atmosphere. Great experience from start to finish -- highly recommended! read more

I did play this course one time and I didn't play as well as expected maybe because I was intimidated by its reputation. I did enjoy playing here and will definitely come back again to try again. This time I was here as a volunteer for the American Express tournament held by the PGA. With that in mind, the course was in excellent condition. read more

I've played here several times at three different courses over the past few years. The golf has always been either playing in unbearable heat or playing in overplayed, hacked up fairways, or both. The place is a massive complex of courses cranking through too many golfers. In addition, the design of the courses are not fun. You are playing in the backyard of golf community housing. The last straw for me was when I tried to use an auction voucher. The wording on the weekend exclusion was not clear at all and the staff on the phone were so rude. I was treated like a scammer who was trying to steal a free round or something. They raised their voice at me on the phone and were not apologetic at all. The manager refused to speak with me even though he/she was obviously standing next to the person I was speaking with. The staff here are an arrogant, rude crew who seem to have forgotten who is paying their bills. read more

PGA West is one of my favorite places to live (part-time), play golf, eat, swim, and bake (in the summer). PGA West offers several golf courses; three of which are public. Use of the other courses requires purchasing a membership, which also comes with several other benefits. PGA West is a great place to relax and allow your blood pressure to return to normal limits. Here is a quick overview of the main PGA West components. SECURITY: The security officers at the main gate and those on patrol have done a great job. I have only received positive feedback from those who have visited us here, and my own interactions with them have been excellent. The security officers monitor vehicle speed, and if you exceed 20 MPH, violators can be ticketed. It keeps those walking around safe. LANDSCAPING: The landscaping is excellent and provides many photo opportunities. The landscapers do a great job each year planting annual flowers, trimming the palm trees, cutting the grass around the homes, and maintaining the world class golf courses. The lakes are clean, contain fish, and several ducks are floating around. Rams also visit the community from the Santa Rosa Mountains from time to time in the early morning. POOLS: There are over 40 pools and jacuzzis at PGA West, which are strategically placed around the neighborhoods. You do not have to walk very far before coming upon a pool. Some of the pools have been completely renovated, and others are on the list for upgrades; some do need it. In addition, several of the pool areas have covers that have solar panels to heat the pools in the winter. HOA: The HOA has been pleasant to interact with and have been very helpful and professional. There are a lot rules one might not expect living in a non-HOA community. Cable TV, security, pools, and landscaping are all included in the HOA dues. FOOD: There is one restaurant at PGA West called Ernie's, which will be reviewed separately. LOCATION: PGA West is located in La Quinta, which is super laid back, with plenty of the typical stores you would find anywhere else. However, they also have some unique speciality restaurants found no where else. La Quinta is at the doorstep of all of the festivals (Coachella, Stage Coach, and the Tennis Gardens), and a lot of people stay in this area to attend those multi-day events. PGA West is also the home of the Career Builder Challenge National Golf Tournament (formerly the Bob Hope Classic). If you are looking for a great place with amazing views, and you want to play golf, eat great food, or attend a festival, seek out a vacation rental at PGA West....you will love it! read more

Played the Stadium course yesterday. First time playing at La Quinta or the Stadium Course. The Stadium course is notoriously difficult, and rightfully so. I was lucky to draw a husband and wife duo who were a 3 and 9 handicap respectively, that had played there multiple times. Service - 10 Driving Range - 9 Layout - 8 Conditions - 7 Fun Factor - 9 Challenge - 10 Overall - 8 The course starts off mildly with some tight, narrow holes that require you to hit the fairway or accept a bogey. You must then hit the green or accept a bogey. If you hit the wrong part of the green you must accept a bogey. It's more fun than it sounds. This is the tone for the entire course. Pete Dye gives you an assignment, you just follow his directions to complete the assignment. You have options on most holes but there's always one shot that requires you do something exactly right or pay a price. The par 3's and 5's stand out in particular, and there famous closing stretch lives up to the hype. I can easily recommend any single digit play this course at least once. Higher handicaps should go into it with the right expectations to have a memorable day. Regardless of score, simply playing some of the holes exactly right will be immensely rewarding and provide good memories and stories after the round. read more

My dad was a PGA West member for many years before he passed away in 2020. I booked the Norman course for our foursome recalling how challenging this target-style course is. Despite too many lost balls, the narrow fairways and copious bunkers and blue ponds, the conditions were way above par. It was a cathartic experience playing here, surrounded by the iconic PGA West desert mountain-scape. read more

Pace of play here is atrocious. 1.5 hour front, 3+ hour back. Greens are SUPER slow, and bumpy. Fairways are good in some places and thin in others. Rough is patchy at best. Definitely not worth $225, maybe at best worth $125. Definitely better spots to play out in the valley for the same or less. read more

First of our dude Aaron the marshall is the man. He let us be flexible in switching groups as long as we kept up our pace of play which we did. The problem with these half members half public courses is that there are a lot of grumpy old people in Palm Springs and they like to complain about nothing and everything at the same time. They let us drink, be a tad rowdy and not be super stuffy which was much appreciated. Again we kept pace of play right up on the group in front of us which is all that should matter. The course itself is really fun. It wasn't as hard as we thought, but very fun. Price was very affordable as well. Will definitely go back. read more

I don't even know where to begin. Worst golf experience, ever. I'm semi new to the golf scene, and have been to a few courses in Nevada and Arizona that were great. This was terrible. We were bullied and pushed through the entire course. Harassed multiple times by the Marshalls about moving too slow even when the screen on our cart said we were ahead of pace, we were told that didn't matter. We even skipped a few holes (which we shouldn't have to do) and they STILL told us we were moving too slow (even when the group in front of us was still on their turn) We saw their golf carts perched up on the fairway just watching. This was not ok, and I will never give this place any business again. I talked to some other groups on the course as well and they all shared similar feelings. To sum it up, if you're desperate and don't mind getting bullied and harassed through your entire time there by the Marshalls, you'll love this place. The 2 guys we talked to as we left and returned the carts were cool though, kudos to them for being the only friendly people we had the pleasure of interacting with. read more

Went to the recent AMEX golf tournament. The people taking tickets at the front gate were basically clueless. The tickets wouldn't scan and they just let people in. It's was set up nice but there was absolutely no food to eat. Maybe some chips at a few places. We stayed for the Gwen Stefani show which was much too crowded. When we tried to leave the security guards had no idea where to send people. Once we finally got out of the field where the concert was we had to walk down the main road back to our car and all these golf carts and cars were zooming by us. Needless to say we didn't go back to the tournament after that. PGA West should be ashamed. read more

My fiancé surprised me with a trip out to La Quinta to play this course, unfortunately it turned into the hottest week of the year. We pulled up to the nicest clubhouse with the coldest AC. Everyone here is nice in a way that's quite shocking. Went to the pro shop to get a tee time, and was surprised we could golf immediately (that should have been the first clue the day wouldn't go as planned). The lady said that the caddies would know which clubs were ours to load onto the carts. Super fast and friendly caddies. We were advised about the temperature and the need to be careful and hydrate out there. One down side on this day is that the golf range has no shade structure. So my fiancé was practicing in 117 degree heat! We got through 2 holes before I realized I was dangerously close to getting a heat stroke. So we made the decision to call it and head back to the safety of AC. Theirs coolers with ice and water stations that they provide you. The golf carts also have GPS mapping on them which is really nice. We were told on this day we could drive on the fairways, although others have told me they were told cart path only. Went back inside to sit at the restaurant and the server brought me an ice pack for my head after I told her how bad I was feeling. Ordered an Arnold Palmer and she brings me a chart that shows the symptoms of sunstroke, and it was made clear I was on the verge of having an ambulance called. How dramatic So then i guess her manager comes over and brought me a drink he made for my electrolyte balance that his football team used to drink regularly when they played. I was SOO GOOD, i wish he gave me the recipe. It was like a slightly salty lemonade? They kept checking on us until we felt ok to drive. But for paying $50 for a round of golf the service here is worth $1,000. Truly incredible customer service from the front door to the exit, these people are top notch. Planning on coming back and finishing what I started soon. read more

My wife, newborn, and I drove from Austin, TX to Palm Springs so I could play the Stadium Course for my birthday on Nov 7. The course was supposed to re-open after overseeding just before. To my dismay, I received a call when we were in New Mexico that the course opening would be delayed by a week. 5 days before my tee time, this cancellation came with no warning. The main reason for driving thousands of miles was no more. The remedy from management: "oh you can play the Norman course at no extra charge to you." No extra charge? I get to play a lower ranked / lower notoriety course at no extra charge? There is no other remediation (e.g., pro shop credit, money off the round). I understand that things happen with the weather, etc. However, that tight of a cancellation with very shabby remediation is disconcerting from the self-proclaimed "America's western home of golf." read more

You'll certainly envision what Pete Dye was picturing when he was laying down the tracks of this golf course back in 1986. With our luck, the day we chose to play here, all of Southern California was sweltering through a major heat wave (June 2019). It was going to be 112-115 degrees Fahrenheit easily that day. It's a good thing we were able to get the very first tee time for the day, which was at 6am. We had some time to load up our carts with plenty of self-serve water loaded with tons of ice. Nifty little ice and water machine located under the stairs from the clubhouse. Plastic cups comes with lids too. We headed off to the driving range where free warm up golf balls await, including a chipping and putting area as well. We met Aaron at tee box #1. He was a very friendly individual who gave us plenty of insight about the golf course and a little bit of its history since we told him it was our first time playing it. Here's some of his pointers: - Hit it high and land it soft - Short (of the green) is typically bad - Miss the fairway and you'll probably be standing off balance - It's dry up until after the 4th hole then nothing but water hazards on almost every hole after that - PGA West- Stadium is the 4th toughest course in the US - Doesn't matter if you tee up at the tips or an easier tee box, it's still the 4th toughest course in the US - The greenside bunker at the 16th, "San Andreas Fault" is nearly 22 ft deep - Lastly, enjoy it. Don't beat yourself up about the score, just have fun with the course and the challenges it presents Thank you, Aaron. Your words of wisdom were on point. PGA West - Stadium was really a challenging course and we teed off whites. I really enjoyed the condition of the course. Everything was top notch; the nicely groomed Bermuda grass, the clear water hazards with huge fish swimming about, and even the nasty and endless bunkers were in great shape. Look beyond your double and triple bogeys and just admire the ground work and the maintenance that's put into it. The names of each hole which are labelled on the tee box posts and the scorecard convey a huge hint of what to expect of the hole. Unlike some other courses I've played, they didn't just throw out random names them either. They were carefully selected with a purpose. I will forewarn you that I found the last few holes of this golf course truly magically but also the hardest I've played on. My decent score went from steady to stock market volatile by the end of the round. Besides that, it was an enjoyable round of golf minus the blistering oven-like heat. I hope to come back soon and give it another go. Hopefully, not in triple digit weather since the course itself is hard enough to deal with. read more

The holy grail of golf in SoCal... with a long history of tournament play. This course is tough. You'll have to deal with narrow fairways, undulating fairways, tins of water to hit over and bunkers that run the length of a majority of the par 5's. and there..... ass deep. Feel like a pro and get this place a try. Deep pockets and deep rough.. this place is made for the above average golfer whose got cash to burn and wants to really test their medal.. I only pulled out my driver on 4 of the holes backed off with comfortable 265 yard 2 woods... positioning is everything. And it's the difference from feeling like a pro or feeling like shit. You'll experience both here but you'll love it. 17 hole - pin high from the blacks w a 8 ft put drained. It was my highlight for the birdie. read more

Pretty disappointed in the service I received on 9/1/23. They let me and my buddy go out onto the course, carts only. Ok no big deal it poured rain about an hour prior. So we go and there's nobody at the first hole with a scorecard for us. No Marshall. No starter. We play first three holes and the skies absolutely open up. Hail. Rain. Wind. The whole nine yards. We decide we're done. Nobody can play in this. We go back to the shop and turn the cart in and we're told no refunds. No "come back tomorrow" or "course pro shop credit." Just "too bad so sad" basically. I'm very disappointed. read more

I'd rather play at J.W. Marriott. For the price we paid we were not impressed. For one, the bartender at the clubhouse was.......not rude, but was certainly not friendly. Couldn't get a word out of her, she seemed irritated and bothered by us coming in for a cocktail before we played, keep in mind, a cocktail to go.. what's so hard about that? The stadium course was under maintenance but as we recall, it was not stated online when booking tee time 10 days prior. Fairways and greens were dead and dry which we really felt affected our golf game. The reason for 3 stars is the marshal, Willie, who came by and was upbeat and friendly with us each time, which we appreciated! As well as the beverage cart girl who came by many times throughout the course, she was very friendly as well. read more

Very high priced considering the condition of the course ($329). Greens were in poor condition, slow, and bumpy. One hole basically shut down and using a temporary green. Tee to green an interesting layout but hard to justify that price with greens that would be considered terrible at a municipal course. Nice scenery. read more

played "Stadium" course this past weekend, condition was awesome. toughest golf course ever played but played not too bad. saw Marshall at least once every 2 holes to keep pace of play. completed the round in 4 hours and 15 minutes. dude in pro shop was very friendly. unlimited range balls. weather was in mid 100s but due to the smoke from El Dorado & Bobcat Fire, it felt like mid 90s. smoke was high up so there was no smell. would definitely come back. read more

5 stars, two thumbs up!!! PGA West is an amazing facility with nothing but the finest employees and amenities around. Each time we come, the starter makes sure to let us know where the water stations and bathrooms are located, depending upon which course we are playing. All carts are equipped with GPS & have extra room for additional items besides drinks. The range is fantastic, extremely large equipped with areas to work on all aspects of the game. The pro shop is always stocked with the newest and trendiest apparel, in case you forget to bring something. I would recommend coming and playing all three public courses if you have the opportunity, you will NOT be disappointed. See photos attached (from late December). read more
