I was so excited to attend, especially since it was my first time. It was promoted as a fun, community-based event -- but the reality was completely different once we arrived. As a family of eight, we were told there was an entrance fee of $10 per person for one day, $15 per person the next day, and around $20 on the last day. You're telling me I'd have to pay $80 just to walk in with my family to walk inside a public park with vendors? On top of that, there were tons of small businesses, vendors, and rides for the kids -- which is great -but you have to pay for that as well. Nowhere online did it clearly say there was an admission fee just to enter -- $10 the first day, $15 the next, and $20-$25 the final day. And keep in mind, this was held at a public park. They completely gated the entire area off, like literally fenced it off every inch with metal gates so no one could enter without paying -- it felt like a lockdown, not a festival. It's honestly frustrating that a city like Pflugerville, which is supposed to be so "community-oriented," would host an event that excludes people based on whether they can afford to pay just to walk into a public space. What if someone just wanted to support local small businesses or grab food from a food truck? If you have a family of 4, 5, 6, 7 -- you're dropping $50, $60, $70, $80 just to get in. The advertising was misleading, and the setup felt more about profit than community. I really hope future events are more transparent and actually represent the community spirit they claim to have. Also, where exactly do these funds go? Because ,I have no clue. They should be ashamed charging people to enter a public park -- especially when everyone inside is already spending money.

But before you spurt off to this pfestival with cash in hand, be aware that Deutschen Pfest no longer accepts cash for admission, so you best be prepared to buy your tickets online @ deutschenpfest.com. Or, for those of you with a penchant for traditional German garb, dust off your lederhosen and dirndls, because wearing these gets you in for free! No pfun pfest would be pfullfilling without prodigious draft beers. Pfriends, they got'em here. Oh, the glory of lifting a gigantic beer stein and taking a deep gulp of that golden, frothy goodness! Oh, and the bratwurst! These bratwursts are the real deal, grilled to perfection and bursting with meat juice. I guess you could say that the pflavor is pfabulous! This is the second year in a row to visit, and the layout of the pfestival this year was nearly a photocopy of last year's event. But hey, if it ain't broke, don't pfix it, right? The visuals were beautiful with themed music and the occasional smells that fit well with the exhibits. We were really impressed by how long it was. It was about a one mile walk on a dirt trail, and it took us over an hour to go through at a leisurely pace and take some pictures. Our shoes got extremely dusty, so make sure to wear shoes that you can wipe off afterwards. We were thrilled to see seesaws at one point on the trail. There were so many kids here, but I think it's enjoyable for all ages. I would even take my parents here. They advertise weekday night tickets on their website as $22, but after all the fees, it was $28.24 per ticket for a Tuesday night. It was surprisingly worth it though. I just wish they were more transparent in their fees. I am really glad we didn't come on a weekend because it would have been even more crowded. Parking was an additional $10 in a dirt lot. There were some vendors with extremely overpriced food. My friend got a cute ghost T-shirt from their official merch store for $25, which was surprisingly reasonable.

We accidentally booked the wrong date while clicking through the links on the phone and had to pay an additional $5 per ticket to change it through the online account later. That was a bummer since it was an honest mistake but the customer service is pretty much non-existent and send canned responses to emails. Parking is an additional $10 at the venue.

I was going back & forth between 3 & 4 stars for this review and if a few things are made more clear in 2014, they could easily become an Austin Music Fest staple. Let's start with the good, the heart of the festival, the music! Artists included Texas' best like Stoney LaRue, Reckless Kelly, Josh Abbott Band, Randy Rogers Band, Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, Bob Schneider, Cory Morrow & more! Everyone played sets ranging from 40 minutes to an hour and a half & music ran from noon each day to 10:30-11pm. The location was great, 2 stages set up next to eachother with space for those to get up close/stand or sit on the huge hill so there really wasn't a bad spot. The price was dirt cheap, $60 for 2 days and 20 hours of music! The bad, parking was $12, beer was $8, food was only available at the entrance of the lawn so if you wanted a little snack you had to walk all the way to that side of the lawn through the crowd. That hill, yes it was huge & had plenty of space for blankets but was so steep, I saw no less than 20 people fall while trying to climb up/down. That was the only section you could sit (since in front of the stage was for standing). If an older person was interested in sitting down, where would they? The ugly, man was it ugly. The schedule was NEVER announced. Yeah, they gave us the lineup of who would be playing but no schedule w/ times. It was really annoying & inconsiderate for people coming in from out of town or who had other plans but wanted to see a certain band. They didn't allow re-entry. So, you were stuck for 11 hours if you got there when it started to the end. Also, you couldn't bring in backpacks or chairs. I mean, once again, 11 hours - why wouldn't you allow a chair? They were letting people in with HUGE bags holding blankets, etc but refused anyone with a backpack. Didn't understand that one? Anyway, the Lone Star Jam has the potential to become great with some tweaks to the way everything is run & the rules they have in place.
