Pettit's has been my favorite vacation spot for the past 25+ years. That being said, I'm going to qualify this review with a very important caveat: I'm not a "City Person". You won't find me in urban environments frequently and I spent time growing up in the country fishing & hunting. *IF you're a "City Person", this probably isn't the spot for you.
There are three larger campgrounds that run adjacent to the river: one North of the bridge and two to the south of the bridge. If you're a tent camper, there's plenty of treeline to stay mostly shaded. If you've got a camper, there are several electrical/water hookups (you need to call in advance to book). And if you're more of a cabin person, they've got 3 sleeper cabins with heat & A/C that sleep several and a big cabin that has it's own kitchen & bathroom to go along with the Heat & A/C (once again, I highly advise booking well in advance).
They offer a few different options for river fun. The canoes, kayaks, tubes, and rafts all offer different experiences. The upper stretch of the river starts with a bus ride up to the put in and takes 5-7 hours to float back to camp depending on how motivated you are. Make sure to check out the springs. The lower stretch starts at camp, takes 4-5 hours, and ends at Dawt Mill where they pick you up and bring you back to camp. Either way, make sure to bring a bunch of water, sunscreen, and a camping attitude.
Just remember that the Pettit's clan is amazing and will work with you as best they can, but this is camping, not the spa at Hilton. read more
