In addition to being waaaaaaay over-priced, they're more interested in kibitzing amongst themselves than taking care of customers at the check-out.
Sunday. 4:00 pm.
Five groups of people in line to pay for their over-priced merchandise. I look... there are three employees in the vicinity of the check-outs and only one is taking care of the till, another is mingling around the closed till two stations over, and the other is over yaking with a green-haired girl who is second in line. Wait. She's not wearing a jacket.... It's twenty-below outside . . . hmmmm, oh. The green-haired girl who is second in line is actually an employee waiting to pay for her personal stuff.
Fine. wait. wait. wait. The customer in front of her finally gets his stuff paid for. The green-haired girl, i.e.: the Pet Smart Employee starts paying for her stuff but is constantly distracted by the conversation she's having with the other Pet Smart Employee who is standing there gabbing with her. They're occasionally interrupted by the Pet Smart Employee who is supposed to be ringing her stuff up . . .
Great conversation they're having, and the line behind us grows.
Finally the Pet Smart Employee gets her stuff paid for and goes to work . . . to open the fourth register. The one Employee she was gabbing with saunters off, and the the fourth Pet Smart Employee who was shuffling around the middle till, looks up and goes, "can I help you?" and takes the people _behind_ us while we wait for the two groups in front of us to get rung through. The green-haired girl decides she's got some important stuff to do before opening her till and takes turn fumbling around between her purse and her merchandise.
