Unacceptable. Recently our beloved 11 eleven year old golden retriever needed a haircut. As we have so many times before, I scheduled an appointment at Petsmart. Horrid experience When dropping her off our pup she was manhandled and brusquely removed from our arms to the back room. This was offsetting. Fast forward 3 hours Our daughter, at Penn State, received a call asking her to come and retrieve our pup immediately. Why they chose to call our daughter 3 hours away when they have 3-4 other local numbers (from our many other visits) is anyone's guess. After my husband received a frantic call from our daughter, off he went. When he arrived at the shop our dog was soaking wet, not ungroomed and traumatized. Horrid experience. When asking what had occurred we were informed our dog experienced anxiety RE to other dogs and the volume of the holiday served to Impact the service Although we were not charged the experience was not acceptable and reflects poor client service. It leaves us with us with no options for grooming!!! read more

Took my 9 month old American Pitbull to the grooming service for a "Puppy Special " and turned out great! No issues. I bring my him back in a few months later,he has grown in size and is a gentle giant, for some apparent reason I've dropped off my dog and a few minutes later I get a call stating "This is too much for today, your dog needs to be picked, today is not the day". I did not like this at all. I could only image how they treat others pets. read more

Staff has always been nice, it's cool how you can bring in your pet and the place has always been very clean even despite dogs coming and going. Pro tip, make sure to flag down staff if you want to get fish or anything else that needs assistance. They can't see you between all the aisles and it's easy enough to just flag one of them down so they're aware of you being there and you know you need help with something, they aren't mind-readers equipped with human GPS. read more

Horrible experience with the grooming salon. I booked my cat for a bath brush and nail trim. I was expecting a full water bath like they did last year. The lady was very adamant about "IF she lets us do this" and an hour appointment turned into 10 mins when she called me and said "she freaked out when I turned the water on" I'm sorry but what cat likes baths? When I book something I expect it to be done, and they have restraints and other equipment to prevent from injury and scratches. The lady who groomed my cat (the only cat groomer they have apparently) was very rude and not warm at all. They mishandle the animals there and when I picked my cat up she looked the same and her fur was still wet from when she tried to bathe her!!! She couldn't even dry her. It just seemed like she didn't wanna be bothered grooming my old girl. And $60 for a dry shampoo brush and a nail trim? Absolutely ridiculous, I almost walked out without paying. I'll never go back. They seem to have everything you need for your pet. I only shop for cats here, and I find all my needs and then some. They also have critters for sale and cats that are waiting to be adopted into their forever homes. I have a hard time walking by them without checking out each and every one. It's also hard to leave without taking one home! The store is convienently located in Bartonsville's newest shopping center (by Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Borders, and Best Buy aka "The 3 B's"). Just had our bichon frise, Cheyenne, groomed at PETSMART and could not be happier. They did a wonderful job on our little 15 year old girl . If I could give this place zero stars I would!! I called and made an appointment for my 7 month old puppy to get groomed. I told them when I called that it would be his first time and that he will most likely be anxious and nervous. I was told no problem, they would take care of him. I drove 30 minutes there from my house, his appointment was at 9:00 am. I left him with Stephanie and she told me that dogs being anxious on their first time is normal. She informed me that his groomer wold be there any minute so I left. I walked out of pet smart and into my car. As soon as I started my car (not even 2 minutes after dropping my dog off) I received a voicemail from Christine saying that my dog was being too anxious and they cant even take his clothes off (he was not wearing clothes, just a harness) they said they tried to get him into the crate but he wouldn't let them. I went back into pet smart and they told me that I need to bring him on a day where they don't have so many dogs there and when its less busy because they did not have the time to worry about him when they have so many other dogs to get through. So in a total of 2 MINUTES they decided that he was not going to cooperate. They did not even try because they were too lazy! and they just did not want to deal with it because it would take longer than the 3-4 hours most likely. When I went back to get him and when they told me they couldn't do it that day they were very annoyed and nasty . I was so excited for his first haircut and it ended up being a nightmare and it never even happened. I have never seen such unprofessional people!!!!! I shop at Petsmart all the time and i can guarantee I will NEVER give my money to another one ever again. I spend hundreds of dollars in that place and even though this is the grooming department I was disgusted. Do not take your dog here they dont care about the animals or their jobs, they are lazy and rude!!!!!! read more

Terrible service. I went there with my boyfriend to look at a ferret cage. There was no price on the shelf so we asked the woman at the register for help. We were standing there for a good 5 minutes and no one came over. There were two employees in the fish section who were clearly busy and just the cashier. We went to leave because at this point we were fed up. When two employees just come walking in laughing pushing two carts. My boyfriend asked if one of them was the manager. And one names Melissa said she was. He had let her know that he was waiting for a while and that clearly they didn't need two people to get two shopping carts. She rolled her eyes at him and said whatever and started walking away. They when he followed her to the office he asked for her managers named. She was clearly now concerned and got it for him. Then she still had the audacity to sarcastically tell him 'great talk i appreciate it.' Thanks Melissa. We both used to be managers a Petco and we would NEVER have acted that way. Maybe you should grow up a bit. read more

The staff is helpful, and they sell great stuff. But I do have a complaint. It's actually not about the staff, its the other customers. When I went there today, there was this CRABBY guy with two little dogs. When his dogs came up to me to be petted, I went to pet them, and he got all crabby and pulled them away. Seriously, why take your dog to a PUBLIC place, where people will want to pet them, if you don't want them around people?? Seriously, jerks like that spoil my visit there. Also, dog owners have been letting their dogs SHIT in the parking lot. DISGUSTING! Petsmart should ban anyone who allows that, and then don't even pick it up! I know these dog owners weren't picking it off, because they had to put a sign up asking too. Its pretty obvious really low class people shop here. read more

This review is not about Petsmart as much as Animals Can't Talk shelter, which provides their cats. A friend adopted a cat from the shelter and soon after adoption the cat began to gain weight. When my friend spoke to Naomi Gauntlett about her possibly being pregnant, they told her the cat was either a different cat or was having a false pregnancy. The cat just had kittens yesterday. When my friend attempted to contact Naomi again, she accused her of "trying to pull something" and told her obviously she had switched the cats. She told my friend that this is "the second time she's tried to pull this", and cited a different phone call that my friend never made (perhaps another person has had the same experience?!) They are not willing to spay the cat, and Naomi has been VERY rude over email. BE VERY CAREFUL ADOPTING FROM HERE!!! I have been a veterinary technician for 6 years, and I've worked with many shelters. These people have no sense of customer service, and are completely unwilling to admit their mistakes. They force you to take two kittens if they are under 1 year old ,& theyb give you 2 coupons for a free exam on each kitten, but when you go to use them at banfield they tell you can only use 1 of them since you are a new client. THEY just tried to charge me $5 more for a bag of dog food that was clearly marked 10% more free. When I complained the dog trainer butted in and caused the confrontation to escalate. I have been taking advantage of these 10% more free offers for a longtime. Just be weary when you shop there. read more

On December 13, I went in to the PetSmart in Stroudsburg, Pa to buy a guinea pig for myself. While in the store on December 13, there were two young women who helped me but I had to take it upon myself to ask various questions that should have automatically been answered prior to them allowing me to even touching a guinea pig. As a customer buying an animal, I should not have to ask what do they eat, do they need routine shots, if she's been recently seen by a vet, where to find things for guinea pigs in the store, and the list goes on. In regards to my questions about the guinea pig's life, I was told she was recently seen by their vet and would not need any shots or to go to vet again. I was then shown the things I asked about, purchased over $100 worth of things, and left. After being home a few days, I noticed my guinea pig, Caramel, scratched and sneezed a fair amount and randomly started having very mushy poo. So I googled it and ran across sites that said it may be mites and diarrhea. That combined with me returning to my actual home in Philadelphia, where my two healthy dogs are, I wanted to take Caramel to a vet just to make sure she was in perfect health. So since I could not take Caramel to Banfield, I had to find another vet to take her to. I took her to Pocono Vet Hospital. They looked at her and said SHE HAS MITES ALONG WITH AN UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION! BUT SHE WAS SUPPOSEDLY HEALTHY AND WOULD NOT NEED TO VISIT A VET! That vet bill was another $100. The vet who took care of us had me call Petsmart to see if they would pay the bill. The small pets manager, Mike, I believe his name was, was hostile and refused, even after speaking with the vet, and told me to just bring Caramel back and get a refund. The vet assured me though that the medicine should work. I really wanted to keep Caramel and nurse her back to great health, especially because she was so cute and I felt bad for her. Once returning home in Philadelphia, Pa, Caramel took her medicine with ease and her poo returned to normal pellets. Then one week into her being there, I noticed a small spot on her face but ignored it. The very next day, the spot was larger and bloody. I was scared and could barely look at her without feeling grossed out. I swore she was doing better. In a panic, I called the PetSmart, located in Jenkintown, Pa, and the small pets manager Karen said "I do not care about a two week contract. I care about the betterment of Caramel. Bring her in as soon as you can and we will take care of her for you". While to talking to Karen in person, she assured me that she would speak with the manager at the Stroudsburg PetSmart. It kind of broke my heart when Karen had to put on a sterile suite in order to even touch Caramel but here I was touching her with my bare hands assuming she was ok. Roughly 3 days later, Karen calls me and said that Caramel tested positive for RINGWORM! WHAT!? THIS IS THE SAME GUINEA PIG THAT WAS SOLD TO ME TWO WEEKS PRIOR AND SAID TO BE IN PERFECT HEALTH. IT IS A GOOD THING THAT NO MATTER WHAT ANIMAL I COME IN CONTACT WITH, I ALWAYS WASH MY HANDS PRIOR TO AND AFTER. IF I HADN'T I WOULD HAVE HOSPITAL BILLS FOR MYSELF, BECAUSE I POSSIBLY WOULD HAVE BEEN INFECTED AS WELL. Karen, also, told me that I could visit Caramel at any time and she'd keep my updated on her progress. The last time I visited Caramel, Karen told me that the small pets manager at the Stroudsburg PetSmart had the audacity to lie and say that it did not seem like I really wanted to keep Caramel! IF I DID NOT WANT TO KEEP HER, I WOULD NOT HAVE WENT TO ANOTHER VET TO HAVE HER CHECKED AND WOULD HAVE TAKEN HER BACK TO HIM INSTEAD!! I AM THE ONLY REASON MY FAMILY HAS TWO DOGS, BECAUSE I BEGGED MY MOTHER TO BUY THEM AND HAVE HAD THEM FOR 7 YEARS. ONE OF WHICH HAD KENNEL COUGH WHEN WE BROUGHT HER AND I TOLD MY MOM I'D RATHER NURSE HER BACK THEN TO SEND HER BACK TO A DISGUSTING ENVIRONMENT! SO HOW DARE HE? WITH ALL OF THIS BEING SAID, I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THE STROUDSBURG PETSMART AGAIN! THE EMPLOYEES NEED TO BE PROPERLY TRAINED BUT MOST OF ALL THE MANAGER NEEDS TO BE FIRED! I AM A JUNIOR AT EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY UNDER THE BUSINESS MAJOR AND I KNOW THAT YOU CAN NOT TEACH SOMEONE PEOPLE SKILLS. WITH A LACK OF PEOPLE SKILLS, YOUR COMPANY WILL NOT FLOURISH AND HE IS THE ABSOLUTE WRONG PERSON TO HAVE OVER THESE IGNORANT EMPLOYEES. YOUR EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE FLUENT IN EVERY ANIMAL ON SITE, UNLESS THEY ARE NEW! WITH A PATHETIC MANAGER, I AM NOT SURPRISED AT THE IGNORANCE OF HIS EMPLOYEES! My parents take my two dogs to the Petsmart in Willow Grove, Pa for grooming and to Banfield as their vet. So I am well versed in good customer service provided by Petsmart associates, but if my incident with Caramel was my first encounter with any Petsmart, I would have a completely negative view of the company and never patronize them again. HOPEFULLY, CARAMEL WILL BE CLEARED TO COME HOME SOON AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH ANYTHING ELSE. read more

Today, I took my 7 month old puppy Lexi to have her nails clipped and filed at a PetSmart near me. Before handing Lexi over to the employee, I handed her treats and provided her with tips on keeping my puppy calm and comfortable during the procedure. As I saw Lexi cry and struggle to get away, I had asked another employee if I could come in to be with my puppy because I knew that would ease the amount of fear she was experiencing. I was denied and watched two other employees hold her down while another employee clipped and filed her nails. After she was finished, Lexi ran into my arms and I could feel her body still trembling from how frightened she was. The manager had the nerve to then come up to me afterwards to say that I needed to get her more used to getting her nails done. She has had her nails clipped multiple times before with no problems. Not only am I disgusted, but I am also furious with the lack of empathy these employees had for my beloved pet. It's going to take a long time before I am able to correct Lexi's trauma from this experience. Based on this horrible experience, I will never return to any of your stores. My puppy deserves better service than what your company provided for us today. read more
