My review is just for the retail store itself, I haven't used any of their training, grooming, or boarding services. This is kind of a smallish Petsmart, but it's only a few minutes away from where I live, so it's convenient to go to pick up a few items. Overall the selection is pretty decent, although the clothing section really could use more warm weather clothing in winter. I was able to find maybe one sweater for my dog, which really didn't fit anyway. Other than that, they are pretty ok, toy and food wise. Like I said, I come here because it's close by. read more

After the experience at Westport Avenue in Norwalk, where the creepy guy who worked in the fish department literally squished and killed the fish my husband and I wanted to buy - in his hand, with a smile on his face, and then put him in a bag -- and I ran out of the store crying - it was animal abuse... my husband went back in to complain, and they said, "That's just Jerry, you have to get used to him, he does things like that." He said, "no, we don't, he's not our insane son." We were heading home from somewhere and stopped at the one in Stamford on West Avenue and bought a frog -- and the cashier double-charged us. My husband pointed this out and the cashier immediately got angry and told him not to tell him how to tell him to do his job. All we wanted was a refund for the extra charge, as we purchased one frog. He forced my husband to sign up for their 7,000 emails, which are endless spam, and kept insisting it was two frogs. When my husband said, "use your eyes" - he said, "I KNOW YOU, YOU CAUSED A RUCKUS IN HERE" -- which was interesting, as we'd never BEEN in that store before -- and it was just a nightmare. It seems all PetSmarts are busy employing some of the dumbest, meanest, and strangest people on earth -- who do not know how to treat customers properly, but also, always seem to be hiring (no shock there) but do not seem willing to hire competent people. Did a long term foster for a large dog and always bought some of his supplies and toys from this location. Employees were always helpful and friendly when I needed assistance and helped with searching for pillow beds and other specific items I would need directed by my dog's rescue when I couldn't find them. PetSmart sometimes doesn't get a good rap but every time I needed help, they always offered it, and one time a cashier let me know I had a $10 rewards credit I could use that I didn't even know about. This experience was top-notch from the moment we walked in. The vet assistant Diamond was as precious and as valuable as her name. Dr. Allen was by far the best vet we have encountered in the nearly 15 yrs we have had our current cat. The cat has had lots of problems over the years and has seen many doctors. This is the FIRST time we have gotten a cogent diagnosis!!!! 3 stars for the cleanliness of Petsmart and products in stock (there was poop and pee on the floor for a good 10 minutes and the dog owner should have cleaned it up). 2 stars for friendliness of staff (except three employees-unsure of their names. One guy works on the floor and he's excellent. The other is our main Vet. The third is a male cashier). The rest of the staff seem so miserable. As for the groomer...god I wish I could have a talk with them. Only one guy nicely greeted her but the rest of the groomers didn't even look at her. I cried when I watched the groomer was being rough with my puppy!! I told them it was her first time being groomed and this girl was so rough with her!! She had no patience when clipping my dog's nails. She was pulling on my dog's legs and roughly grabbed her to be carried back into the back door (don't know when they went back!!) I had no idea how she was treated back there but I heard her crying. The groomer is short and overweight and wore a bandana on her head. If anything, ask for the tall woman there because she seemed to be patient with her dogs. If you do go, tell them you're staying and watch by the window. I will NEVER go to their groomers again and I advise no one goes there if you love your dog. Our vet is excellent but there's one assistant that didn't have anything to do with our dog. She didn't want to touch her or anything. This location needs to get their you-know-what together because they've fully lost my business except for the vet. Went there 3 months ago and had my dog groomed. It was great. Went back a second time and it was terrible. Not the same cut. Also they charged a Handling fee of $10 because they couldn't trim her face. They said it was difficult. Had came in and out and the Staff was just hanging around. My dog on the table. What did they do for 4 hours. Not a hair cut!!! I also asked if they could trim her nails and the excuses are the same last two visits. Your dog was difficult. Very disappointed with these people! Went to this PetSmart before I caught a flight at the airport. I was instantly turned off and reluctant leaving my dog there because the doggy daycare worker was yelling at the dogs.... A lot. I asked the clerk why is she yelling at the dogs so much she didn't answer me at first then said we'll that's because some of the dogs misbehave. It didn't feel right... no questioned her or second guessed it so it clear it's a common practice. I instructed my dog is extremely timid I absolutely do not want her yelled at. I accepted that she would be okay. I dropped her off on a Thursday and picked her up Sunday. My dog seemed happy to see me and nothing appeared to be wrong until my children noticed identical red wounds in the exact same spot about 3cm wide and 1 inch thick on the outsides of her back paws. I hate to speculate but it looks like her paws were tied. When I called they said they weren't sure how it happened and that... maybe it happened from the drain in the cage. That makes zero sense and why would they be identical. Poor care and poor excuses. I've been a PetSmart patron with my dog at different location out of state and I Never o expected this. Employees are complete joke at this location. Two women that work here constantly talk down to me anytime I come in, last time one of them just straight refused to sell any fish to me because she claimed to not like my attitude?! So after being ganged up on by all three employees that were working there at the time was then forced to leave since they insisted on refusing to sell me any products simply due to me telling her I don't need a lecture on fish tanks and water every time I come in. I brought back dead fish ONCE within a two day period after purchasing it, and after bringing it back was told if if it happens again they won't be able to replace per their store policy. Every time a fish dies they always insist it my fault, they never wanna deal with getting the fish out of the tanks so they look for any possible reason not to sell them to you. I even had one of the employees tell me it's too bad if I spend thousands of dollars a month at that location and it sounds like a personal problem maybe just go somewhere else! It's just amazing how lazy most of the employees are and how high and mighty they act & poorly treat people as if they have some high college degree and we're all stupid uneducated people who pay their paychecks. I bring my dog to this place since he was 6 months old. He always resisted and didn't like to go there. It was fine for me because I believed dogs don't love to go to the groomer. TODAY was the 5th and LAST time I brought him to Pet Smart. They told me he doesn't like the kennels and I told them specifically to just call me when he is almost done so he doesn't need to be there in the cage. They knew that because it's not the first time he goes there. They didn't call or texted. They also cut my dog nail wrong and hurt him, it bleed a lot. Now he hates that place even more. They also accept more dogs than they are able to handle. They do not have enough time to properly attend to each dog with care. That's why my dog also came back not fully dried and also was hurt because they are always rushing. This is unprofessional. Dogs need good attention and care because they can be traumatized for life. On Aug 15th we took our to groom and bath in one of your stores (288 West Ave, Stamford, CT 06902). Later that day we noticed a laceration in his right upper thigh but since was taken care of by your staff our decision at that point was not create a big deal about it, but the fact is that by the next morning the wound got worse and infected and he woke up in pain. Wednesday night it was looking really bad and he was in pain so we decided to take him to Cornell University Veterinary emergency for the first time. It kept getting worse and infected despise our efforts to take care of him and even taking the medicine the wound was not healing fast enough so we took him to the emergency room again the next day. Finally, after several discussions with the ER vets we decided to take him to a veterinary hospital to evaluate him the next day. After the evaluation the veterinary in charge decided to proceed with surgery to close the wound. Thanks to doctor Nolan Zeide Filé now recovering. We really hope to settle this the best way considering all the costs and stress in this process. I am contacting every week seeking information about our claim with no response. DO NOT GET YOUR PET GROOMED HERE! We took my dog to get groomed here a couple times but this last time it was just awful. We came in with a picture and clear directions of what we wanted. We get my dog back with a butchered haircut and her belly/crotch area shaved. What kind of sick fucks do that to a dog? and to make matters worse, a normally friendly upbeat dog has now been snarling and on edge ever since coming home. I wanted to let you know what a great job everyone at the Stamford PetSmart is doing. Our "child" Mayhem (an Australian Cattle Dog) has been going to the daycare and we have seen tremendous improvement in behavior, such as decrease in stranger aggression and animal aggression, weight reduction, and improved sleep patterns. The animal trainers/handlers are all professional, affable and have been so generous with sharing their knowledge. I wish to make a special commendation to Erin Brantner who was our initial PetSmart contact. It was primarily due to her efforts and the extra time she spent with us that we felt comfortable enough to bring our son, Mayhem, to this specific arena for training and socialization. We felt that it was important for you to understand the perspective of a very pleased customer. Also, we feel that the Stamford PetSmart is the cleanest and well organized business with lots of variety. It would be nice if there could be a bit more large and very large dog items, sweaters T-shirts, etc...as Mathem is 104 Lbs. Also, we wish to commend the front cashiers for performing their jobs with alacrity. Just today, the cashier saw me struggling with a totally overloaded cart (almost $400 of cat food, toys, litter for 4 cats: Hunter Seven, Bon Bon and Bellarina). She rapidly and cheerfully helped me get to the front, loaded everything onto the conveyor belt as well as informed me of your Family and Friends special days scheduled next month (June 2-5). Also, on previous occasions it was the front store employees that guided us to Dustin or maybe it's Destin who is "the snake guy". He was so kind to advise us on everything we needed to purchase for our Lavender King Snake, Cupcake. And it was he who helped us when we went back at a later date to upgrade her habitat. I boarded my cat's there from last Thursday December 21st until Tuesday December 27th. My 1 year old male sphynx had never hissed at one person since I got him at 6 weeks old. They couldn't get him in his carrier so they called me back to help. I almost passed out from the urine stench saturated into my cats. When I got home they both had to go straight into the bathtub and actually my mail could use a second bath because I could still smell him after that I took there t-shirts and jackets blanket and bedding to the laundromat to be washed ended up having to throw the blanket and the $100 bed in the garbage because it was ruined from the urine odor. I was also quoted a price of $250 turns out the total came to almost to $290 and of course the girl could not explain why. When I got them in the car they were still scared and stressed out I don't even think they recognized me for the first 15 minutes of the ride. Needless to say they will never go back to PetSmart Stamford petshotel. And I would suggest finding anywhere but this place to board your pets. read more

I have been to this petsmart about 3 times, and I will never return. In all aspects, this store is not good for your dog. At each visit, the pets hotel staff is extremely unprofessional and disinterested in your pets needs. It is also obvious that the staff at this establishment does not have a genuine love for pets (unlike the petsmart staff on Tarrytown Rd a they love animals). When I brought my pet to the hotel, the staff member did not even want to pet or greet my dog at one instance. While waiting in line at the grooming salon, I witnessed a girl groomer trimming the nails of another dog in a very fast and uncaring way, and I thought to myself, I hope that's not how they will treat my dog. I also heard another groomer tell another dog "you stink" in a very harsh way to another dog. At the end of my pets hotel stay for 1 night, they did not even have a Pawgress report. When I asked for it, they apologized and gave me the unfilled out one with he coupons. This shows that they do not care about your dog, because they did not take the time to do the report. GROOMING SALOON: Be aware! They might be charging you for extra services. Been taking my dog there for about 2 years and never had a problem. I took my dog last week and made an appointment at 9 am so I got there 10 mins before so I can drop him off before going to work. The Groomer did not made it to the room until 9:05 am and she asked if I could wait outside until she gets everything ready. I walked in at 9:10 am, checked him in, VERIFIED my number and left. After few hours I didn't get a called from them so I called to see if my dog was ready to be picked up and the person on the phone told me he was all set. When I picked him I was getting charged $80 dollars which seem strange since it was only bath and grooming. She proceed to informed me that they found a flea on my dog so they had to use flea control treatment. She told me that they called my number and left a message about it. I checked my phone and neither I had a missed called or a message so I asked the lady why didn't they called me. I asked the lady to verify my number and she got it right. She said that in the paperwork I signed when I checked in it says that they are required to use the treatment if they find fleas and that they did called my number. I asked the grooming saloon manager to check the logs to see if they missed dial or maybe they got the dogs mixed up but she refused to do that saying she is not responsible for the call logs. FISHY since she could had easily verified if they missed dialed or mixed up the dogs. I told her that if they would had called me or left a message I would had agree. Since I never got anything I was not willing to pay 27 dollars more. She said she was only allow to deducted $20 since they used the "Shampoo" i agree and left. Luckily i had an appointment for his teeth to be clean 2 days later so I asked the clinic to check for fleas or any signs that he might had them before. i was concerned since I never had a problem like that before and wanted to make sure, it could happen. I wish I could leave zero stars. I am ABSOLUTELY disgusted. I brought my dog here for the petshotel and of course, as a loving dog mom, I was apprehensive. It was my first time leaving my dog overnight since I rescued her from a very abusive situation almost a year ago. I called twice to check in on her, and the staff told me she was "doing fine". After about 30 hours of my dog being in the hotel, I went to pick her up. I was so excited! It took about 15 minutes for a staff member to bring my dog out, and when she did, I could tell right away that my dog was not okay. Once we got outside, she was going to the bathroom and I noticed blood in her stool. 6 more times on the half mile walk! When we got home I realized that she was covered in urine and feces. Makes me wonder, did they walk her at all? Or was she locked in a cage going to the bathroom on her self?? She also now has a horrible rash all over her chest. Always had a good experience until today when I was told the ONE girl who groomed cats quit. Last I checked it was a grooming salon.. not a DOG grooming salon. I work retail as well. My experience with the pet hotel at the PetSmart in Stamford has been great. The Managers of the pet hotel have been very accomodating and professional. People very seldom hear from the large number of people who have their pets in daycamp and who board who have good experiences. I encounter these people every day. I have been bringing my pet to PetSmart daycare for over two years. There will always be some worker who is not dedicated to the work that they do. This happens in all types of work environments.
