Bring your pets in! I came in looking for Betta fish. They had a small selection of fish- different varietals of betta, all in little jars. All the fish looked like they'd seen better days before. I was mildly concerned about how they placed all the fish in separate containers, within view of the other betta fighting fish. I wonder if they're in the state of constant terror of getting jumped by the other fish that are on the shelves next to them. I don't like how PetSmart wants to know my phone number every time I go in there. It feels like how it was at Radio Shack back in the day, having to recite your phone number just to get a battery. I've always enjoyed how this big box store lets you bring in your own pets to shop with you, no problem. There was an instance here somewhere in Texas where some smart ass Texan brought his longhorn bull in with him to the store. read more

PetSmart is great when you're looking for special or certain products for your pet. I have a cat so I like to come in once and a while to change up the type of food I get her. They have a wide variety of cat food brands which is priced comparably to say grocery stores but here you get more variety. One thing I didn't like at the store is the aisles are very tight in the cat section. The cat section is near the fish section and it's really hard to maneuver through the other aisles. Instead of going up and down the aisles I had to go back up the aisle to get to the next. I like to look through the cat toys for something new and fun to entertain my cat. Luckily I found a cool toy that auctions to the floor and she can swat at. It came with catnip so she was highly entertained. They also have pet adoption events on the weekend and have cat adoptions everyday. I'm a firm believer in "shop don't adopt" so I like that they have mutt cats and dogs at the events. read more

I had bought a 75 gal fish tank at another location. After spending 5 hours decorating it and getting everything perfect I realized it was leaking. My home location was out of stock so after making a phone call to confirm I could exchange it at this location I drove the 30mins to swap out my tanks. Everyone was absolutely lovely. From the staff I spoke to on the phone, to the cashier,to the staff who helped unload the bad tank and load up the new tank into my car. It was such a quick easy process. Thank you SO much to the Bitter location for all your help and wonderful staff!! My Cichlids are going to love their new home and anytime I'm in the area I will be stopping in! :) read more

Took my dog for a grooming appointment - puppy bath. It's always $20. They charged me for something called a ferminator by accident (I assume)...I asked for the manager who wasn't sure if I asked for it, I explained I wanted the same service I always get (on my account), and didn't even know what the heck the ferminator was... lots of back and forth, I explained I would gladly pay for it if I asked for it. She finally took it off my bill after verifying I haven't ever asked for it in previous visit, but the experience wasn't handled professionally. This Petsmart is so convenient and has great parking and products. Everyone is always so friendly here and they sponsor so many different rescue groups. The place is clean and I can tell the pets are treated well (as well as they can be). This time they had an awesome clearance table in the front! I was able to get super cheap canned food that they were clearing from the shelves. They also have the Pet Hotel and Vet if you need these two services. read more

I recently obtained a 10 week Lhasa Apso and right away I knew he was a country boy! He was a little dusty but not matted. I wanted to make sure he was nice and clean for my daughters surprise. I called around to a few places to see when I could squeeze in a shampoo and cut. Apparently places require recent shots and days notice! When I called Petsmart they asked his breed and age. Luckily for me since he was less than 4 months they could see him (and right away too)! The employee was very helpful once we arrived. There were several other employees very excited with the pets in the grooming area. There were also a lot of happy customers bringing their pets too. I felt pretty confident in my choice. After being asked several questions on the type of cut (very helpful) they told me they would call me in 3-4 hours when he was ready. That was nice, so I left him. 2 hours later I was called and rushed to see what sort of work they did. My pup was stoked to see me! The groomer gave me a report of how the cut went and any recommendations that was very helpful to this new pet owner. He looked perfect! They did a great job on every piece of my pups body. To review the rest of Petsmart, I was again impressed with the employees who were all very happy and helpful. The two men at the check out counter gave me good tips on the treats I choose and the right leash for training. My major complaint is the lack of fashionable small dog collars. They had the typical pink/blue/red/black with jewels, but I wasn't looking for jewels. So I searched in the cat section and found exactly what I wanted. I got home and realized it didn't have a metal loop for his leash though dang it! Ill make it work, but the better selection would've been helpful! read more

I picked 2 stars because I purchase from this store often and they're usually great. I walked in and looked for my dogs food. There were none on the shelves but that's normal. It's always sold out from the shelves, but I always check the app to see which stores have this food in stock. I always walk up to the clerk and ask if someone could check in the back because it says I'm able to purchase and pick up from this store today. I did just that. The clerk got on the ear piece and asked if there were any in stock. Whoever was on the other side of his conversation told him no, if it's not on the shelves, they're out. I asked him to see if someone could please just take a look because I can order from the app and pick up in 3 hours from this exact store, so there must be a bag somewhere. It was also the only store in ALL of San Antonio and surrounding areas that had this food. The clerk told me to order it and come back. How rude! I got pissed. I told him to have someone meet me in the back otherwise I'll be looking myself. I walked to the back and waited a minute then decided I'll just go through their inventory myself. I found it immediately at the very bottom of a stack of other 24 lb bags of dog food. I moved 6-8 bags neatly to the side, grabbed my bag and marched to the front. The manager walks by as I walk out of the back inventory area with my bag. The clerk rings me up and I tell him I want a discount for doing their job. He chuckled and told me the total. I told him I was serious, so he told me the price again. I told him to get the manager up here because I want a discount. The manager walks up and I explained what happened and that I was a discount. She said she could do 25%, which I appreciated, but never she apologized or said anything more and walked off. Do better people. read more

It's been several months since I have been to this Petsmart location, and it will be several more months before I decide to go back. Although it's nice to see volunteers on the weekends manning the cages that are filled with orphan dogs hopeful to find a forever home very soon, it's always added a feeling of this organized chaos that greet you soon as you walk in the front doors. That is how it felt today, in fact. In addition, the reason for my visit was to purchase some fish for my aquarium that I had recently set up and today was going to be The Big Completion day! I donate would we now have a new set of pets to care for and enjoy watching, it was going to be one of the few projects I want to actually complete from my long list this year... But it didn't turn out that way. The entire south wall of the store which previously held aquariums teaming with colorful fish of all sorts was a bleak and dirty looking mess with all the tanks empty and only the chalky residue of the water left to look at with a feeling of dread. There was a note that to the far left side of the wall that simply said a renovation was being done and that you nearest stores to buy live fish relisted... But each of them were more than 5 miles away in opposite directions. Not places I would drive to for this sort of project on this dreary day. I left empty-handed and may or may not go back in late June to complete my aquarium. I probably will end up going to their competitor instead. read more

This review is for the STORE only. We've been to this location several times and have gotten what we need each time. The sales associates that have helped us have been friendly and sufficiently knowledgable. We typically go in for stuff for my fiance's fish tank. It's freshwater (plans to upgrade to saltwater are always in the works though.. lol) and this store has a decent selection of freshwater fish and all that we've bought from there have done pretty well. They also have some plants and I think we've gotten 1 or 2 from here which have also done fine. Warning: They have the adoption crew there on Saturdays, with the ever-tempting foster dogs in need of homes so if you're a dog lover like we are, it's fun to go see them and all, but go at your own risk! ;-) Once we have a yard we'll be the "crazy dog people".. although one of the foster people said she had 8 dogs in her home currently.. I don't think I could get that crazy! haha All in all it's a good store, plenty of parking right outside, friendly and helpful staff in our experience, and carries all that you'd expect in this chain store. Haven't used the groomers, boarding facility or Banfield at this location, but we did got to Banfield in South Florida and that location was fine, so likely we'll give this one a shot (see what I did there?) when it's time for our pups to get updated! read more

Went into the store looking to purchase canned food for my dogs, I saw the royal canin gastrointestinal food and thought "oh nice, they have some." A little background, I recently adopted two dogs so I'm a new dog parent and recently just admitted one of my dogs to the ER because she had poop in her blood and was constipated and lethargic. When we left ER, doctor gave us this canned food, never realizing it was prescribed because we didn't get a prescription for it and received other meds. Nevertheless, the point is, if you going to have people representing your company, make sure you have some with customer service skills. The cashier was cold and rude and asked me if I had a prescription and I said no then she says all that food needs a prescription and points to that aisle as she is speaking AND THATS IT! Nevermind she didn't even say Hi nor seemed apologetic or empathetic as to why I wouldn't know or even direct me to where I could find the royal canin food instead. Overall, I have two other pet stores near me, and they have always been helpful. I came here because I like the selection better but I just don't have a high tolerance for a store that doesn't employee people that appreciate customers. Not going back. Customer service is everything to me. read more

She had this evil and highschool-like "I am the queen of this store and you be standing in my turf!" tone in her and was very pushy when asking us questions. What are they thinking with the windows on the "pet hotel"? The dogs are already going to be anxious separated from their owners and then they'll blame random people that are walking their dogs in the store for "making the dogs at the pet hotel act up. " common sense is to either calm those dog's down or to not have a window into a pet store. Geez, I'm just flabbergasted at that how non pet friendly that set up is and how lacking of dog behavioral knowledge they have to be to keep it in place and to have the the gall to blame dogs on the outside of it. read more

Horrible. Brought my puppy here for her first haircut. The groomer wrote a long report card that she has no training and isn't allowed back there. She was barely a few months old and was in training classes. The groomer didn't seem polite and we will definitely not be returning. Petco is a better facility and deserves our money. read more

I had my dogs boarded here at the Petshotel for the very first time, as their previous kennel was no longer providing good service and treatment to my animals. I was a bit reluctant to board them here because I've heard a lot of horror stories coming from people boarding their pets at these big chain facilities. But I realize not every Petsmart is operated the same way, or by the same people. So, I thought I'd dive right in and take that leap of faith and board them here. I'm glad that I decided to take the risk, because my babies came home happy, healthy and playful, which are very good signs that they enjoyed their stay there. The manager, Alexis, is great. Very friendly and was helpful in getting my dogs back out from the kennels to the front. She is definitely an animal lover and it shows. : ) I opted for a grooming before I picked them up, and they came out smelling extremely fresh and clean. Needless to say, that I will be boarding them again at the Petsmart Pethotel very soon! read more

A big box store for pet owners' fancy. As we pulled around from the side street, we can see someone walking a black lab puppy at the side of the building for a potty break away from puppy training class. When we pulled into the parking lot, there were two other puppies taking potty breaks. The sight reminded me of how much fun it was when I signed my lab up for one of these classes at another Petsmart location. Most Petsmarts fence off an area within the store for puppy classes, but this store has a room next to the pet hotel area at the far left side of the store. There's a plexiglas wall between the main store and the dog training class. The instructor actually brings a dog in to demonstrate desired responses. The Petsmart hotel charges about $25/day for boarding services, and the price is higher if you would like a room with a TV. All room prices include food, walking twice/day, and maybe some other service that I can't recall. When I inquired whether it includes play time, I was told there would be an additional charge for this service. ...I think my vet actually charges less for boarding though, and play time is included, but I will confirm this in a different review. Saturdays are Petsmart's pet adoption days. Pet foster parents come in with their foster animals. These friendly foster parents are ready to answer any questions. Anyway, this is my go-to destination for 20-lb bags of Science Diet, Milk Bones, waste bags, and ear wipes. They sell Flexi leashes, and mine has lasted 3 years and it's still going strong. read more

Barbara at the checkout was talking about how she hates Saturdays with coupons and then row her eyes the whole time she was waiting on me especially because she had to change my phone number in the computer and she said she be better off in 30 minutes so I'm assuming that's when she got off so I just told her don't take it out on the customers!!! When I was looking for the dog food I asked another employee and I did not get her name and she just pointed in the air "where it says dog" However Mildred was exceptionally great with her customer service and help me pick out a good dog food and explain what was in it and beneficial.. for the exception of Mildred this is why I shop at Petco!! read more

We went here yesterday to get my son an aquatic frog for his birthday, and we are all very pleased! This store is very clean, the workers are friendly, and all the animals seems they are very well taken care of. We went to Petco before coming to this location, and everything was horrible there. We are def becoming PetSmart customers from now on. I called beforehand to make sure they had aquatic frogs in their store (after being disappointed from Petco) and Matt helped us and was very friendly and informed us they had frogs to purchase. We arrived to the store, and Matt continued to help us. We are very pleased, and Matt and PetSmart helped make my sons birthday a great one! My wife, our dog fancier, is a regular here. She drives by at least two other pet superstores because this is the only one that carries her preferred Blue Buffalo canned dog food (note: I didn't say it was my dog's preferred, as I'm sure he'd be just as happy with some cheap rot-gut food). My first visit was today. It's like a Target for pets, except we're paying, not them. A dog food representative was quite friendly as was the girl at the checkout counter. Lazy Groomers. I usually like taking my dog to Petsmart, however at this location they have skipped things I've paid for. After I pick my dog up I call and they always have an excuse. Last time they didn't cut my dogs nails (they forgot). When I called after I noticed, they said it was because he tried to bite when they tried? This was not even written in his book though. I continued to ask questions and they just said I should take him to our vet to have his nails checked.....WTF? SO I did and the vet cut his nails right in the office and said he had absolutely NO issues and the groomer must have lied to me. Unfortunately I won't be trusting my pets with these people again. read more

About two hours before we were scheduled to jump on our plane, we discovered a serious issue. I thought the staff was very nice and friendly, but it's always suspect when they won't show you where your dog will be staying. As a result, when i picked him up he was very thirsty, hungry and had to use the bathroom a lot. Plus he smelled like urine from head to tail. I don't know enough about the PetsHotel, Banfield, or grooming facilities to properly review them so I will just stick to what I know. This location has easily the fastest check out and most friendly and helpful staff I have ever experience at a Petsmart. Having a PetPerks card is a must have if you want to save some big bucks on any number of their weekly specials. Although I frequent this location it is by far not my favorite. This store always seems small and not stocked with as many items as the other Petsmarts in town. So far I've been able to find almost all of what I need here so until the day that I either move and this place is no longer convenient, or they stop selling items I want to buy, I will remain a customer. read more

Shopping for fish. The fish employee stressed me out because she didn't seem confident in her ability to transfer the fish to the bag for transport. This petsmart has pretty much everything a pet owner could need, but it is expensive. I love that they have adoptions from local rescue groups instead of selling pets from breeding mills. I tried to cut my dog and messed up so i took her to the groomers that would take her the quickest. I usually go The PetSmart at the forum with Jordan but she wasn't available, so i went to this location. It usually take about 3 hours for them to finish my dog, that's what they advertise....(mind you, she's only 5 pounds) but this location took four hours and twenty minutes!! Like DANG!!!! I know i messed her hair up but it shouldn't took a whole extra hour to fix. Then on top of that they gave my the wrong paper for my dog. They were doing tours or their doggy hotel and offered my dog some ice cream when i dropped her off, but after being told she'd be an extra hour i just got her when she was done and left. Took my small dog, 10 pounds, in for grooming. Normally takes 2.5 hours at the PetSmart at home that is twice as busy as this one, was told it would take 3-4 hours, it took 5.5 hours. Dogs brought in after mine were taken care of before mine. I asked for a teddy bear cut because she's a shihpoo, they gave her a poodle cut. Told them multiple times to trim her do claws on the back paws and had to tell them again because they had not trimmed them. I was offered many excuses, but no resolution. It's overpriced especially for the subpar service provided. read more

I won't board my dog there again. I suspect abuse/injury because she was bleeding every time she went #2 for a couple days after I got her back. This ordinarily very sweet and friendly dog is also now scared of strangers. She was especially skittish for the first week or two after her stay. The other day on our walk, we encountered someone dressed like a petsmart employee (he was wearing chinos and blue polo) and she barked at him with terror....very unusual behavior for my dog. She rarely if ever barks, let alone in this fashion. I've boarded her before at other establishments without issue, so I can't assume that it was just anxiety due to being boarded in general. Can't prove a thing, but it all adds up and gives me a bad feeling. read more

I took my 4 month old lab in today to get her nails filed down. Not only was the lady rude, and spent 15 minutes messing on the computer, my puppy walked out with no nails left! She cut them way to short! I'm surprised she didn't start bleeding. All she said was "sorry that's how short we cut them" in a rude tone. I went to the petsmart on 281 in stone oak a couple weeks ago and they were 10 times better with the service and the quality. I went in once in the morning and the girls there were super helpful about giving me info about my newly adopted stray who was covered in fleas. My dog is a "frequent flyer" at their Pet Hotel, and as anyone who loves their dog knows, you wouldn't put your beloved pet anywhere unless you knew they were being well taken care of. A special "thank you" to Sarah, who works overnight at the pet hotel. She writes notes to me about my dog and how her stay went. The rest of the staff is friendly and they greet my dog as soon as we walk in. When I know my dog is happy, I can go out of town without worrying about her, and that's a very good thing. read more

I use to swear by this Petsmart for grooming my dogs, and I have yet to find fault in the grooming itself. However in the last 4 months I have made several appointments for a BATH & HAIRCUT, to only arrive & be told I was only put down for a 'Bath & Brush' with no availability of a Haircut for that day. I showed up early for my dog BATH & HAIRCUT appointment yesterday & guess what, I was only put down for a Bath & Brush! Needless to say I will no longer be using this Petsmart for my grooming needs, I don't love driving out there every other month to only turn around & go home. read more

The store is fine. I just get tired of having to track down a sales associate to get assistance whenever I come here - which is weekly. Even more frustrating is when they look right at you and keep walking without checking whether you need assistance (I'm not trying to catch your eye because I'm here to make friends with you!) and then I find two of them standing there just chatting together.
