We recently adopted a puppy and one day while working I realized he was going to chew through everything in the house if I didn't run out and get him some chew toys. It's been a hot minute since I've had a dog so there is a bit of a learning curve here for me. This PetSmart is the closest pet store to me so I made a quick run out over lunch to snag a few chew toys. When you walk in, it's a pretty standard PetSmart location. It does, however, feel a bit dated, and after walking by some fish that looked a bit worse for wear I made my way to the dog section. The dog section is massive. The chew toy section is also massive. I was truthfully a bit overwhelmed and after hemming and hawing over what to choose eventually picked something that looked good. I then made my way to the cashier and waited, and waited in line for what seemed like forever. I really wish this store had a self checkout or employed more than one person to work the register as I was hoping to make this a quick trip. When I got home my puppy had basically no interest in the chew toy which was a bummer for me, after all the effort of going here and returning with such little luck. Several weeks have since passed and he does chew it sometimes, but I've since found that with dog chew toys it's unfortunately just must faster, and the margin for error is much smaller if you purchase from an online retailer where you can read reviews. If this location was a bit brighter, cleaner, and faster at checkout I think I'd return, but with the ease of online shopping, the prices, and the reviews I don't see much of a reason for it. read more

I went to PetSmart looking for cat food have an older cat and I was not sure of what would be a good option for him now that he's older. The staff in there was super nice, but one of the team members Chris went above and beyond trying to help me find what would be best for him , he was able to help me find food that would be good for his age . Had a lot of knowledge on what to recommend for my cat. He has amazing customer service and super friendly. I would definitely recommend this Petsmart location. read more

I'm forever going to drive the extra time to come here because it was so much better. I liked the other location but wow, my dog came back more groomed than ever before. They really took time on her coat, really getting rid of as much hair as possible and there were no knots! Sometimes she would come home with knots and I would have to cut them all out. I waited 12 minutes for someone to greet me in the front check in even though staff members saw me waiting there and I rang the bell for service. After finally checking in (20 min) my pup was mauled by much bigger pups who like to play rough and use their teeth. Why are the small pups in the same room with the big ones? Normally I vote with my wallet. I'm usually super tolerant and I have realistic expectations of "corporate stupidity". My experience this morning has taught me that the wheels have come off the wagon at Petsmart. After arriving exactly 20 minutes early for an appointment, waiting for ten minutes while a tatted groomer holds her finger in the air motioning for me to WAIT, and being run over by another irate customer claiming she's been billed three times from their mobile app, I was not so politely told to leave and come back at the exact appointment time. Is there a leash shortage, are kennels stuck on the boats coming from overseas? Are we not compensating said tatted groomer well enough? The dog sitting called the vet last week to get an update on his vaccinations. They called us the morning we were supposed to leave and told us he's not up to date and cancelled him. We would run him over but they have a 48 hour wait policy between vaccines and service. The vet said they'd have called us if Petsmart wasn't going to do it but they assured the vet that they would. read more

I love this PetSmart. My dog Dale goes there often for doggie day camp and overnight stays. They treat hIm so well. He gets excited when we take him there. We also used their training services twice his first year and loved working with Donna. Looking at other reviews I just don't get it. People are too uptight. Have been going here recently for my new kitty. The staff are always very kind and helpful, and the stock is a lot better than it used to be. You'll find what you need here. I haven't used their boarding or training services, so I can't speak to that. We arrived at ~8:40 PM To purchase some fish for my daughter's new fish tank. The manager proceeded to tell us "we do not sell fish after 7 PM'. The store hours are posted online and on the door as 9 PM. No where was the policy concerning fish purshases after 7 PM posted or made available. The manager had a smirk in her gaze when she related the subject to myself and our two daughters who were heartbroken. Consiquently, one can purchase feeder fish but not "pet fish" after 7PM. There were at least 5 personnel at the location during our visit. We have purchased our dog food and treats for YEARS at this location and will never return to PetSmart under any circumstances. I have to give PetSmart PetsHotel some love here because they always treat my two old Shiba Inus right. I can imagine all the low star ratings for retail and/or grooming because when it comes to your loved ones, we all can't be too careful. My dogs have been going to PetsHotel for the last three years (long weekends, holidays), and every time I call in for a reconfirmation, the PH team excitingly proclaims that they love my dogs. They even remember my details before I even finish telling them their names for record look ups. The pups come home well-fed (maybe even a little huskier), tired from playing, and groomed on-time. The staff is incredibly diligent in checking all the details for the stay, and I've never had a booking obstacle. If I had to correct anything, the check-in always slows down near the end due to some "computer" issue. Whatever PSPH is using probably needs to get into the year 2010's to ensure the transactions are completed promptly. read more

My 10lb Morky is permanently banned from Petsmart (yes it's very true, 5 years now) because he's feisty and aggressive at times while groomed. Weird that I've never had any issues with any other grooming salons. Treating my dog like he's got this black plague is quite discriminatory, but yet they hold pet adoption events. It's obvious that Petsmart doesn't care about animals. Unless they are friendly, easy to deal with because that's all their employees could handle. Update: The managers at the store were textbook ideal in handling the situation. I could not have asked them to be more understanding or cordial. While I still hurt for the pup who is healing, I feel better about the whole ordeal, especially knowing the grooming manger planned to address the situation with the employee who did not do the job they expect. The original situation: I knew better than to trust the girl with the attitude as I handed over my sweet morkie. But she faked me out that she might actually treat him kindly after she was a jerk to me. She took him, petting and calling him sweetheart. He came home with severe razor burn in two places. One on the folds of skin under his face and the other on his private part. And several cuts others places. How could someone hurt a dog like that? I'm going back tomorrow to address the manager and demand not only my money back, but that they will have the veterinarian see him for medicine at their expense. I'm more than mad. They are severely understaffed as the lady helping me was answering the phone and helping other customers I waited 20 minutes for her to help me....it has happened twice now. The groomers was helpful and pleasant. They did an awesome job with my dogs. They look and smell great. They got baths, nails and foot pads trimmed, ears clean and booty trims. I saved $5 off the grooming by checking in so it came to about $90. I also got a 33lb bag of food for them which was on sale for $38. I don't feel like it's an actual sale because it's always on sale for $38. Maybe it's just my luck but I will check back to see. read more

NO on the PetsHotel. I went there today to check it out for boarding my medium-size dog for nine days. The woman at the "hotel" counter was totally bored and disinterested. When she did acknowledge us, she just pointed and said, "there are the rooms" and "there's the playroom." The advertised rate is $26 a day, but all that gets your dog is stuck in the cage 24 hours with three "potty breaks" during that time. You want your dog to have any playtime in a tiny room with other dogs? That'll set you back another $14 a day. Your dog wants to run or get any serious exercise? Unless it's a palm-size dog, forget it--the "playroom" is waaaay too tiny. Maybe a very small dog could deal with this for a day or two, but there's no way my dog will ever stay there. And if the attitude of the desk clerk reflects the attitude of the rest of the PetsHotel employees, I wouldn't board any animal there. read more

The dog training classes here are a no-go. I repeat, a no-go. There was no socialization at the beginning - think 8 puppies sitting in a small room, staring at one another. A little puppy play would have been nice. The instructor talked a lot, the dogs didn't get to do a lot. When we did have time to try something on our own, the instructor let us fumble around on our own with no guidance, nothing we could do better, etc. It really felt like our instructor was *taught to teach dogs, she didn't learn it through her own experience. This review focuses more on PetSmart's grooming and PetsHotel operations inside the Metcalf store rather than the retail experience. I've always been very pleased with the level of service afforded to our 65 pound retriever by employees at this store. My only ding is the difficulty of scheduling appointments in the 1 - 3 day range. Lesson learned, book farther in advance for grooming needs. The PetsHotel is equally accommodating. They provide great options like peanut butter stuffed Kongs, doggie day camp for socializing, and efficient accommodations for sleeping overnight. Prices are reasonable too - 29 dollars to board overnight and 28 for day camp socializing. Employees are extremely flexible and treat all dogs with respect and love. The grooming salon provides great services including baths, cuts, trims, and other services. For a big dog like ours, we pay about 75 bucks every 8 weeks to keep her super long hair trimmed, nails grinded, with a bath and brush. It's worth it to keep her looking and feeling good. I'll definitely continue to take Heidi to PetSmart for grooming and boarding. I typically buy food at another pet store because of the lower prices. When it comes to grooming and boarding, however, PetSmart is the place to go. read more

Good and timely service but staff seemed like the world was ending because they had to come to work that day. The prices here are pretty decent. Much better than petco where the pets should not go. The grooming on our short haired dog was timely and well done. He smelled great, his nails were trimmed and his anal glands expressed. The groomers were very unhappy though. They did not help improve the service at all. The store is clean and I will be back for grooming again. I just hope the groomers don't think the sky is falling next time I'm visiting. read more

I had one great experience with a puppy cut for my dog, however this last time was lackluster and completely horrible. The groomers were not customer service friendly to myself or my daughter. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG to this groomer. I had scheduled a puppy cut with pedicure online. I had called to confirm, and they stated that I needed to bring my puppy in an hour earlier, which was fine. Again, I had asked for a puppy cut with some length trimmed off. They took puppy down to one inch. The cost was twice as much as the puppy cut and there was no bow in his hair. After I paid, I spoke to the groomers Donna And DJ. They refused to offer any compensation. When they brought my dog out, he was shrieking to get to me. For the past few days, the sides of his ribs have been very sensitive. When I go to touch them, he growls. Also, there were 2 razor burns on my puppy's private area. I'm still in the parking lot writing this review, that's how terrible this situation was. IF YOU ARE PLACING AN ONLINE ORDER, GET IT OFF THE ONLINE ORDER SHELF YOURSELF!!! Anyway, I placed an online order to pick up in store because they were running a promotion, and thought I'd save a bit money, and it ended up costing me time, and a headache-lesson learned. I walked in with my order confirmation in one hand and Christmas spirit in the other. After having to essentially walk the lady through how to work an iPad (turn it on, find an app, etc). She then after 5 minutes of fumbling around figured it out, had me sign for my order, and told me to get it off the shelf, from the store. Only being able to find 1/4 of my order I took it up with my irritation growing. She then called a manager up, and the manager (Amanda) snapped at me, and told me "it'd be a reverse charge". Well, i knew it couldn't/wouldn't be because I had already signed for it and said it had been picked up. She turned her back to me and proceeded to talk to another employee, even though my problem hadn't been resolved. After I asked for someone else to come help, a male manager came up and he tried to tell me the same thing. After I was interrupted multiple times I had to turn on my teacher voice () and finally sternly explained the situation for the 15th time. He then called in Donna (the 5th employee) and she walked right over to the online order cabinet and pulled the order (Thanks Donna). No apology for the 30 minute mess, no apology for the way I was spoken to, no apology at all. The man helping me said "have patience- our employees are still learning"- I get that. I have a retail store myself I would never ever dream of putting an employee on the floor during the busiest time of the year without being properly trained. With that same thought in mind, none of the employees including management understood how the online order pick up process works, so why run a promo if it's going to cause employees and management stress? Bummer of an experience... This next part has nothing to do with the employees I encountered, but what I witnessed while I spent my time with the cashiers. The older grey-haired lady groomer is so aggressive I cannot believe they allow her to groom animals. She was brushing the dog incredibly rough, pulling the legs way they didn't need to go, and the dog yelped way too many times. If that poor puppy belonged to me I would be absolutely devastated to know it was being treated that way! . I will NEVER bring my dogs to be groomed here, because if that's how aggressive they are when they're behind glass, I can only imagine what happens in the back kennel room. read more

We don't come here very often as there is a Petco near our house, but we sometimes come here when Petco is out of stuff we need, which has lately been more often. There seems to be a slightly larger variety of stuff here than at Petco and prices are pretty similar if not cheaper on some stuff. We don't have dogs, so we can't comment on the grooming facility, but it's fun to watch the dogs getting snazzed up while you're checking out. The cashiers here are very friendly and efficient. There doesn't seem to be a lot of extraneous staff around to help people if they have a question. read more

We brought Elli here for dog training classes, because we wanted her to get on the right track early on. Donna was the trainer, and she was super nice. I didn't get to go to each session because of extra-curricular activities I sponsor, so husband went with Elli for some. He wasn't able to go to final session because of grad school stuff, so when Elli missed last session I saw Donna at PetSmart after that, and she volunteered to let me make up the last session if I wanted with another class group. She was incredibly nice. The problem I had was with the people attending the class sessions (which PetSmart doesn't have a lot of control over). Elli looked like a freaking angel next to these obnoxious dogs. I had apparently been teaching Elli the same things from class just on my own when we first got her. I think she learned less by being distracted by them and they were a bad influence. Apparently PetSmart has a guarantee that if the class doesn't work for your dog the first time, you can bring them back for another class for free. Well there were some obedience school drop-outs apparently. I ended up being fine with Elli's little quirks when I saw the monsters that some people were going home to. Don't get me wrong, I think its mostly the fault of the owner that they ARE monsters, but still.... I really do love my dog. This just made me appreciate her more. If you go here to get dog treats or toys make sure you have a list of recalled dog treats from China to guide you through the aisles. Here is my experience though. After seeing all the recalled treats and items from China for dogs I went to PetSmart to the aisles to check the origin of their products. I had a very hard time finding anything from the USA. PetSmart is pretty much the wal mart for pets. Almost everything is imported from China. Toys, snacks, etc. Its sickening. Like I said, bring the latest recall list of dog treats with you just in case. Its either Mexico or China when it comes to their product line. Even soft toys are now being imported and promoted at petsmart. My biggest personal question is the lead content of their products based on their origin of manufacture. read more

We had our Great Dane Jax neutered at the Overland Park location yesterday and we had made the appointment a week out. Upon picking Jax up, they had brought him out and his cone was morphed and duct tapped to hold the cone together. Jax was able to easily rip his cone off several times throughout the night. We finally had to go buy another cone at a different vet. Very unprofessional for someone who pays good money to have their pets spayed/neutered. read more
