If it were possible to rate this location below one star, I truly would. I visited the PetSmart on Antioch in Merriam this morning with scheduled full-grooming appointments for my two Shih Tzus, expecting courteous service and competent care. Unfortunately, from the moment I arrived, the experience was disappointing. There was no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no sense of warmth or professionalism. Instead, I was met with an unfriendly demeanor that made it clear my presence was viewed as an inconvenience. Despite speaking politely and respectfully, every interaction felt strained and unwelcome. I gave clear and reasonable instructions for my dogs' grooming needs--nothing complicated or unusual. My dogs are brushed daily and were not matted when I dropped them off. Yet one of them was returned with visible red marks on his chest and neck, attributed to "matting" and brushing irritation, which does not align with his condition beforehand. His nails were also left uneven, with some noticeably longer than others, reflecting a lack of attention and care. In addition, I paid for a teeth-cleaning service, and it was immediately clear upon pickup that this service had not been completed, which was extremely concerning and further eroded my confidence in the quality of care provided. This experience is especially disappointing because it is the second negative encounter I have had at this location. The first occurred over a year ago when I first moved to Kansas City. I only returned because the Ward Parkway PetSmart -- where the staff is consistently kind, professional, and attentive -- was fully booked. In hindsight, returning to the Antioch location was a mistake, and I take responsibility for giving it another chance. Lesson learned. My dogs mean the world to me, and I approach every pet-care professional with respect and appreciation. Unfortunately, that level of care and consideration was not returned here. I will not be visiting the PetSmart on Antioch in Merriam again, and I would encourage other pet owners to think carefully before trusting this location with their pets. I would never recommend this grooming facility. The groomers are rude and they take it out on your dog when they feel they are too busy when they are not busy at all and would rather sit around and lie to you that there are other people waiting in front of you when there is not!! PetSmart Merriam is great, but this review is specifically for the hotel. I'd like to start off with the lovely staff that always greets my dog with so much enthusiasm. I've boarded him several times, and used their daycare services. I always feel at ease during his visits, as I know he will be well taken care of. They have pawty days throughout the month, and all the dogs get their pictures taken. It's literally the best thing ever! We had the best experience we've ever had at a PetSmart store on this last Saturday 7/20. We peeked in while in the area to see if any cats were there to adopt (just for fun) and ended up leaving with our sweet new kitten Pleakley (who has since been named Finn). While we were there, 3 cats got adopted. I think this has a lot to do with the person working that area named Ava. She was incredibly sweet and kind and helped us (and I'm sure both other families) make the correct choice in picking out their sweet babies to take home. I asked about food preferences for what our kitten eats and she told us what he's been fed, but how we could comfortably switch his diet if needed. She was knowledgeable and we loved hearing about her dog in between deciding to adopt. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who checked us out that day, because she was just as friendly and knowledgeable and gave us great tips about the PetSmart app, as well as other ways we could save with purchases for our perfect new family member. Firstly, really sweet people work here, and I have never had a problem with staff. However, I think management needs to get it together with the betta -- some of these poor babies were swimming in their own excrement, very obviously had not had water changed in awhile, several had fin rot, and a couple were pineconing/puffing up. They were on their last legs. Very obviously not being cared for, and it was really upsetting to see. Petsmart should either care about these beautiful fish in these tiny jars, or stop giving Glofish and these companies that perpetuate these harmful practices business. Bad experience with the Grooming Dept. I took my 13-year old dog for grooming and told the groomer that she has a bad leg due to a torn ACL. Went I went to pick her up I was told not to bring her back because she kept lying down during grooming. When I asked, tongue-in-cheek, if I needed to put her to sleep when her fur grew back out, I was told "not necessarily" as though that were an option. I don't believe I've ever come across a retailer that told outright that they didn't want my business. This is after years of buying dog food & treats and using their grooming service. My puppy loves Petsmart. He drags us from the car to the front door in excitement to get in. We let him choose his own toy...lol. He goes up and down searching for a toy he wants and we let him get it. I do think they are a little over priced on toys but we buy the Science Diet food at a reasonable price. During xmas the big bags of Science Diet had 10 dollar instant coupons for your next purchase. They do have a play time and haven't tried that yet. Worst haircut my dog has ever had. I have a cavapoo and take her in for a grooming every 2 months. I know what I want and I'm pretty clear, number 4 shave but keep the tail and ears long. I go to pick her up and her ears are completely shaven. I was told it was because there were matts. First off she had some knots at the bottom but not a crazy amount and by no means was there any reason to shave ALL off the hair off of her ears. Normally they take the bottom off or cut the mats out and leave some hair long so she looks cute and normal but now she looks like she has a mullet. Not only did they shave the hair off but they didn't even call me take about it before doing so. The only reason they have 2 stars is because they gave me a full refund. read more

We had our dog stay one night at the Pet Hotel. They gave us the option to bring her own food in case of dietary needs, so we sent her with two pre measured cups of food for two meals in separate bags. When we picked her up the next day one whole bag was still with her things. Nobody could figure out why she didn't eat but she was not properly taken care of and she will never be going back. read more

DO NOT GO THERE FOR GROOMING! If there was a negative score, I'd give that. I had a horrible experience with their grooming department. When I went to pick my puppies up, I received an invoice with a lot of additional charges, but when I dropped them off, I declined any additional offers they made in favor of the basic bath and cut. When I asked them about the extra charges, they said my golden doodle took additional time and effort, but they already gave us a price based on the breed. We went there assuming the price they charged for a golden doodle was the price they quoted, but they added a bunch of extra fees without explaining them beforehand. After a long time trying to figure this out, even having to call my husband at work, they finally removed the charges, but were incredibly rude toward me as I checked out. The woman who took my payment gave me dirty looks and when I tried asking questions, she completely ignored me. Worst of all, after the groomer, he started having diarrhea; and a couple days later, was pooping blood and we had to take him to the vet. The vets suggested it was due to stress, and couldn't find any other cause, but the only stress he would've experienced is from his grooming. The only other thing he does is play at home with his brother. I don't know what my dog suffered at this groomer, but this is why I wrote this; to warn people to stay away from PetSmart and their poor business practices and terrible customer service. read more

I sent my two dogs here for daycare. It was ok some days. I will not return, however. The people working there aren't really trained. One didn't attach my dog's collar correctly and when I went to get him out of the car, it came off and my dog of course took off and I had to chase him around to catch him. He's a very large dog too, so some guy outside with his kids started freaking out because there was an enormous dog loose. My dog is harmless, but he didn't know that. Luckily I caught him before he was hit by a car or something. Also, one day I was at work and Banfield called me and started talking about all these things they needed to do to one of my dogs. I asked what they were talking about as my dogs weren't scheduled for the vet that day. The lady said to call Petsmart as something happened to my dog. I called and they told me that he had a laceration on his cornea. I asked what happened and they said they didn't know. So not only did my dog get hurt on their watch, but they couldn't even tell me what happened to him. They said they tried to call me but couldn't get me. I find that interesting because Banfield had no problem getting a hold of me. When I went to go get them, they even had the balls to try and charge me for daycare for him when he'd been at Banfield all day with the vet who was fixing his eye! Unbelievable! read more

My dog has developed a condition that requires prescription food. You know, because I am made of money. Anyhow, I love my dog and thus will pay to feed her, regardless of how much it costs. However, this also means that I have to get her food from a pet shop that has an in-house vet. A huge pain in the butt. To the burbs I go! This is the closest PetSmart to my home, and I'm glad that's the case. Everybody here is super friendly and helpful. The store is very clean. It has kitties that I can pet, even though my husband is a jerk and won't let us have one. Also, it seems to be a rule that you HAVE to bring your dog with you here, as I got to say hello to at least half a dozen new furry friends. Can you tell that I love animals? It's true. I do! The only thing that keeps this from being 5 star is that I suffered some serious sticker shock when purchasing the food. I knew it would be expensive, but it cost significantly more than when I bought the exact same bag directly from my vet. I never felt that their non-RX food was overpriced, but this has caused me some concern. Still, I have to say that if you have a regular dog that can eat regular food without killing him or her, this is a great option. read more

I'm going to share my experience with PetSmart because I've had a unique one. First, I came here to get a few goldfish to make my apartment less lonely. I do have a dog, but there's something about caring for fish that makes me feel more...motherly. I don't know. Don't judge me! So I bought a pirate-themed fish tank--feel free to be jealous--and went over to the wall of fish tanks to pick out which fish I wanted. It took about 10 minutes for the saleslady to even acknowledge me, even though I was about 8 feet away and obviously trying to decide which fish to PURCHASE. When I finally asked for her to get me some fish I had picked out, she started to grill me about what type of tank I had and which fish I could and couldn't get. Now, I'm no veteran fish owner. Especially when it comes to goldfish. I know how to pick 'em and how to keep 'em alive. But this saleslady seemed rude and bossy, talked down to me, and refused to let me get 3 fish- saying I can only have 2. I know she was probably only trying to help, but I don't appreciate people insulting my intelligence, especially when it comes to some dumb 80 cent goldfish. So, I just got 2, went back later, and got the 3rd one. (AND, big surprise, they are still alive! I was competent enough to not kill them! Whohoo!) Overall, I'm rarely asked if I need help when I'm at the store, and often have to stalk someone in order to get a question answered or help with something. I do like their selection, but I'm afraid that their customer service leaves something to be desired. read more

The staff at the hotel is always happy to see him and he to see them as well. He always comes home from a stay worn out from all the time at doggy day camp. I like supporting local shops -- especially in the area of pet care. But I do end up at this PetSmart quite a bit. The main reason is because of the PetHotel, which offers boarding, Doggie Day Camp, and dog training. The dogs have a standing date at the Doggie Day Camp. They come home happy and worn out. We like this service because it allows our dogs to be socialized and get a good amount of play time regardless of the weather. If we happy to go out of town, the boys get boarded here as well. We previously tried out another boarding place. When I went to pick up our one dog at the time, no one working was to be found. The place was dimly lit and sad. When I finally yelled for someone, a girl showed up. I felt bad for her. She clearly was the only one there at the time. When she got our dog, he had a sad walk until he saw me and then he bolted toward me. He clearly didn't have a good time there. That has never happened when we've picked him up from PetSmart. He's happy to see us, but doesn't seem like he's had a bad time prior to us picking him up. We also went through the puppy training offered at PetSmart with our younger dog. Our trainer was Sara. OK so I've been to this place before they do an OK job cutting hair for the most part I mean depending on who you get of course it doesn't look perfect every time but it's usually pretty good overall this time I was specifically asked on the phone if I wanted a student person to groom my dog or not and due to my dogs age I said and other issues I said no I don't want a student to groom my dog lo and behold I go and drop my dog off I come back three hours later and what do I see wasn't one of the normal groomers grooming my dog it was one of the students so granted it was being a student the haircut wasn't perfect by any means however my dog still looks good regardless of that but it's not the best either and it was going against what they asked me I didn't say hey can I not have a student can I not can I have this but they came out and asked me when I was placing the appointment and they still didn't even follow their own guidelines what do I get told I'm sorry I didn't even know you can have your money back so for one my problem is they don't communicate with anybody otherwise there would've been A note stating I did not want a student grooming my dog also it wasn't about the money they did the haircut and stuff but regardless of that the manager said you can have your money back did they give me my money back no they didn't so I left with everything opposite of what they told me I didn't get my money back which I wouldn't of asked for it to begin with since they did cut the dogs hair but it's the principle of the matter that they offer that back and they didn't give it to me so they can't do what they say they're going to do obviously and they can't communicate with other staff to let them know what to do other little mistakes I would've been OK with it but this is twice in the same meeting I got asked one thing and received the opposite that doesn't make for good business I paid for my dog safety and not have to worry about certain little aspects that a student might offer since they're learning I'm not saying that they can't cut hair they probably can and it's probably pretty good however chances of mistakes happening arm more realistically going to happen to a student even though it can happen to anybody so therefore I did not want to risk my dog with it she had a troubled childhood and she already doesn't like being away from me so I wanted to put her in the best hands I thought possible once again I thought it was wrong they did not do as they said in the only way they tried to come for me is to say I can have my money back and not even give it to me so I walked away paying for the haircut fine whatever I wish they would've offered me the money back though and we're just I'm sorry which is an even a sincere I'm sorry it's just one of those things business people are told to say to make sure things don't escalate do you know if companies did half of what they said and provided products and services half as good as a claim I doubt they would have to worry about too many customers getting irate sure you'll always have a few but I bet if they did what they said and offered you good products they wouldn't have to deal with that very often anyways that is why they get a two star staff is usually nice but obviously not completely capable of their job duties or at least communicating to others in the same company which to me is shows a problem for the company no inner communication inside a company so nothing gets doneLike it said it would I don't know about you all but I find that kind of weird anyways that's the deal I had a student cut my dogs hair and I was told I wouldn't have to I didn't get my money back like they said I could have back with their fake apology so that's been my experience this time otherwise I don't have a problem at the store prices aren't abnormally high course or not low so it's just a typical store however they when it comes to what they tell you means jack Poop to be polite read more

The store is clean and the associates are friendly. They carry the brands that I need and run a pretty decent sale. I like that they make it easy to add a buck to your tab as a donation to their charity. On the store alone, it's a 4-star joint, hands down. The grooming salon has gone down hill a bit. I used to bring the furkids in on a regular basis for nail grinding and ear cleaning, for $20 it's a good deal. In the last year or so they have had some staff turnover and the more seasoned groomers have been replaced with a rather young crew. I don't feel like they do as good of a job and they are not as attentive as the other staff had been in the past. My pup was able to walk off the table mid-nail grind because the groomer was not focused on him. He didn't get hurt but it's something that could have easily been avoided. I never know what I'm going to encounter at this particular Petsmart. The staff is either overabundant and talkative or doesn't exist at all. I really have to go back and forth between 2 and 3 stars, because I've had a number of good times there. I have, most recently, had a bad time there. I needed an automatic portion control feeder for my cat. The vet says she's borderline obese and she can't have tuna anymore. He said she needed portion control with dry food. So I went to Petmart to buy one because they had one on sale on their website. I went to the store and saw that the shelf was empty. I searched for an employee for what seemed like hours and found one that tried to run around the corner before I asked her to help me. I asked if they had anymore because they were out on the shelf and she said no. She explained that a shipment truck had just come in and there weren't anymore. What the hell does that even mean? Wouldn't it seem more plausible for there to be MORE of something if a shipment truck had just arrived? I guess not. Anyway, I asked if there were any other stores that had them and she said I could call them if I wanted. So I guess Petsmart has no ability to look at other stores inventory stock like all the other retail stores out there? She was just lazy and rude. Oh well, I went to Petco instead and found the newer model of what I wanted and they price matched it to Petsmart. Take that suckas. read more

I love this petsmart location, there is a cashier there that remembers my dog from when he was a puppy, there's an employee that helps straighten things up during the day who always takes time to pet the pets and talk about his pets, makes coming to this location so much fun for me and my dog. I'd like to give PetSmart a shout out for the usual great job they do with grooming my dog (who is a rescue and still has PTSD). This weekend we went in as a walk in for getting his nails trimmed, and it was super busy with a wait. We walked around the store for about 30 mins before he was so strung out...so after I checked out with our treats I asked the cashier if they could have the groomer take him off the list. There was a manager up there and after she heard how long we had waited and of his special needs she said "let's get you taken care of at the pet hotel" which was quite a blessing, since I was prepared to just come back the next day. I really appreciate that he didn't have to endure another car ride back, and that he got to have the nails done in a quiet environment. There were quite a few things that stuck out as great customer service and I'd like to give compliments when they are due. I will keep coming back to this PetSmart because of this. read more
