I have to love this location! I adopted my youngest kitty here! Honestly- all three kitties my hubby and I have had, we adopted through Pet Smart, partnered with local shelters. Besides hosting awesome adoption events, they also have a huge selection of pet food and toys. I was having trouble finding the sensitive stomach food for my barfy fat cat- but I found it here! Last time I checked out this Southside PetSmart, they were light on tropical fish inventory so perhaps I came in between shipments. I've ordered items from the store multiple times and they are usually ready for pick up within a few hours of the order. Additionally, PetSmart offers same-day delivery via DoorDash. What I enjoy most about this store is the wide selection of toys. Their toys are organized very well to indicate which ones are best for heavy chewers, cuddlers, etc. They have many good brands including MultiPet and Bark. I have been taking my dog to the Banfield in PetSmart for years. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. It's convenient and means I don't have to find another place to pick up food or anything like that. I get all of his essentials when I am there for his vet appointment. The staff is always friendly and most importantly they have multiple clean up stations throughout the store. Pretty sure my lil man gets the nervous poops whenever we go there and he always has an accident. Glad it's easy to clean up. read more

After our vet checkup, I took my puppy to the grooming center at this Petsmart. The groomer clocked in around 6pm-6:10pm on August 16, 2017. I do not know her name. I showed up there a few minutes prior to her clocking in. I wanted my 1-year-old puppy's nails trimmed. When she arrived and checked us in, she attempted to put a Petsmart leash around my puppy's neck. My puppy immediately backed away from her and went into a corner. The groomer then said, "he's a pit bull, maybe he's protective of you." I ignored what she said because it appeared that he wasn't protecting me, he was trying to get away from her. She then went behind the counter and handed me a slip and told me to take it to the cashier outside of the grooming shop and pay for the service. She then repeated "go pay and come back". Before I left, she tried to put the leash around him (my puppy). Again, he backed away from her I handed her a bag of treats and said that he'll probably go if she had them. My puppy then followed her since she had the treats in her hand. She then told me: "Just wait outside. Don't pay. If he doesn't cooperate, we can't groom him. I cannot muzzle pit bulls". I left and a minute later the she called me to come back in the grooming center. She told me that she cannot trim my puppy's nails because she cannot get him to stay still. The reason for my complaint is that I believe that the groomer was insensitive to my dog because of his breed. --which, he is actually a labrador and pit bull mix. But it still shouldn't matter what he is. Several times throughout my encounter with the groomer, she expressed a personal belief about my puppy. She implied that he was not afraid of her, but by him backing away from her, he was protecting me. I don't understand how that makes sense. In addition she told me that she doesn't muzzle pit bulls. I don't know if that is a Petsmart policy, or her own fear of specific breeds of dogs. Either way, I don't believe that someone with that type of mentality should have a job that includes having contact with dogs of all breeds. I don't plan to return to this grooming shop! read more

We just moved back to Jax and were in the need for a new groomer for our pup. One of the neighbors told us she uses PetSmart and has been very happy. My wife called and made an appointment over the phone which was a breeze. We dropped him off one weekday afternoon and were asked to call in 3-4 hours to ensure he was ready. We called as directed and he was ready. When we got there they directed us to the register to pay and then said they'd get the dog. When the cashier rang me up, I thought there must've been a mistake based on the amount he said I owed. Something like $70 for the wash and cut plus some package deal they sold us to prevent itching and scratching. All in all we were pleased with the groomer and experience, just not the price. We may look elsewhere for a better deal but this is convenient to the house so we'll likely continue using them as long as the groomer stays. read more

People with pets are weird. This store caters to the weird pet owners. When I need a little pick me up from a long day I go in just to check out some of the pets. Oh the dogs are adorable. Then you look to your right and see a cat walking around with a leash! Why the heck do I find people trying to walk cats? (This is why animals attack.) Just get a Chihuahua - it's about 1/2 cat so it's almost a dog. The people that work here are so friendly it's weird. But they definitely love pets even more then their customers. I walked in thinking I would get some cat treats, moments later I'm starting at a dog thinking it's okay that he cost more then my rent. You cross a few more weird pet owners and now the customer service chick is talking about her pet being sad? Which of course has me wondering if Leo is lonely during the day and maybe I should get him a snack and a toy? Then it hits me! I'm acting like one of THOSE weird pet people. I pass on a toy but grab some treats and go to check out all the while reminding myself - "Go in and then come out". Yeah I could go to Walmart and grab everything I need, but I don't want to be one of THOSE weird people either. Grab what you need and leave. You stay to long and you start thinking of dressing up your cat for Valentine Day. read more

I really wanted to leave a good review but I don't think that's possible. The good part is that most of the staff was friendly and the grooming area seemed cleaner than most I've visited. Now for the disappointment... I was called on the day I originally made the appt and was asked to reschedule because my one dog is a senior and they wanted as much time possible with her. Sure no problem and had my other dog added as well since he just need a good bath and brush. So I get there i show both my dogs are up to date on rabies with the 3 series vaccine meaning 3 yrs shot. The girl behind the counter wanted to argue with me now keep in mind im a disabled vet so standing there being rude to me is not the best way to treat veterans. I was about to lose it and another staff member told her to call the vet (it was in that voice tone of stop arguing and just get it verified). So of course it was veried since my dogs are up to date like I had said since both are assistance/support dogs I am very good on keeping up with vet visits for them. So after that they take him back and another girl asks me about my senior dog which was good. But when i got her back i noticed that I didnt get what I had asked for in the appt notes. I asked them to shave her down clean her up and to shave the tail. They shaved her but not the tail and it looks dumb. So now getting more irritated paid took her home and drove back to pick up the other dog since I live close by and he wasn't done yet. So later that night I'm taking a closer look at the dogs haircut and noticed not only did they not cut her tail but her cut is uneven not blended and she has long hairs sticking out in multiple places! It's so bad I'm almost embarrassed to take her out. read more

I have gone to this location several times but I had to write a review about this experience today. My dog Sherlock is a little scaredy-cat. But then again not every dog likes to have their nails clipped. My dog especially. Today I came into the groomers at Petsmart and was greeted by Valerie. I just needed a nail clipping so I didn't make an appointment. They were able to get me in easily as soon as I updated Sherlock's rabies info. In the past I've always been very hesitant to leave the room because Sherlock gets very nervous. But if I had left today I don't think I would've felt as bad. Sherlock was in very capable hands with Valerie and a new groomer PJ. They took special care to make sure that he was comforted and he did not jerk around and yelp as he has done in the past. Hands down Valerie gave my dog the best experience I could've asked for. When I come back to get his nails done again I will ask for her specifically. read more

I just read through all the reviews because I knew there had to be a complaint like mine and quite frankly I'm shocked that this one is the first on yelp in regards to the fish. Why isn't anyone talking about all the dead fish they leave in their tanks?? Or the fact that most will inevitably die from this store. I hate going in here for that reason however after a few weeks ago there won't be a next time. We bought 5 fish from here 4 were dead within a couple of weeks. Prior to that we purchased about the same they also died. No it's not our tank nor the way we transport them into our tank. We buy fish from Petco on San Jose & they all live. I'm surprised no one has reported the amount of dead fish in the tanks. I know they barely feed them because an employee told us they feed them about once a week so the tanks will stay clean (God forbid the lazy employees have to clean the tanks) Now Petco told us they feed their fish 1x a day however they constantly clean the tanks and since we only saw 1 dead fish in their tanks we told them about all the dead fish left in the bottom of your tanks and they said they go around a few times a day & if there are any dead fish they take them out. Wow what a concept because they obviously know not to leave dead fish in a tank because the other fish will get sick. This is how bad it is, we went in here over the summer and there was a pile of goldfish I'm talking about 100 all piled on top of each other not moving. We were shocked and apparently the goldfish were as well because when we asked about all the "dead fish' in the tank they told us "yeah they're in shock sometimes it happens during transport" my spouse and I never saw anything like it before a pile of a hundred fish all on top of each other not moving. What surprises me about the neglect and or abuse is there are usually young people working at these chains and I'm quite certain most want to work there because they like animals, critters, etc so for these kids to be so cruel, neglectful & in-compassionate is what really shocks me more since most young people are usually more compassionate & caring than adults (their not as jaded) so this makes it even sadder that these young people can sit around talking while dead fish just lie in the tanks. What happened to these kids that they are so heartless?? Most unfortunate is the fact that when it comes to PetSmart's fish department they are always well stocked & have a bigger variety it's a sad fact since they take such lousy care of their fish. read more

Took my little dog for a bath and haircut on 8/27/20. This was supposed to include: Oxygen-infused bath with shampoo & blow dry 15-minute brushing Haircut & light dematting Nail trim Ear cleaning, hair removal & flushing (if needed) Scissoring feet & pad shaving Sanitary trim Anal gland cleaning Paid $50 plus gave a $10 tip (shouldn't have tipped.) Groomer was Shelcee Z. I dropped him off at 1 pm and went back in about 10 minutes because I wanted to tell her to leave his back longer. She said it was too late, he had already been shaved (by someone in the back.) I can't say how very disappointed and angry I am about the work that was done. She insisted that he needed to be shaved due to matting. OK, but I figured she would use scissors on him after the shave to "clean him up" and make it a cute haircut. When I went back 4 hours later, all he looked like was that he had been shaved. He stank and did not appear to have been bathed. He still had hair coming out between his toes on the bottom. He had stray hairs sticking out from his chin. He had brown tear stains at his eyes. His ears were uneven and it appeared they had cut a knot out of the right ear, but not the left. So his ears were not even, both underneath and above at the ends. When I asked her if she did the anal gland cleaning she said they couldn't do that now due to Covid-19. Huh?? So, I do not recommend PetSmart grooming here. Will never go back there for grooming again. read more

We got our dog groomed at the SouthSide PetSmart, it was amazing. Everyone was so kind and my dog seemed to really like it, they forgot to shave his paw pads but it may have been because he's paws are kinda small. Overall, I had a great experience and this is a very secure place so dogs won't escape. When I got my dog I could tell they did very good, his fur was soft and they clipped his nails, I was feeling nervous at first but when I got my dog back I knew that this was a excellent place and that I could trust the people who had my dog! Also, Phillia H, the person who took care of my dog was very sweet and gentle. I could go to another place with no stress about my dog. This was a spectacular first experience and I would definitely recommend to anyone with a dog to go here, your dog will be in the right hands! I've already recommended this to one of my other friends and they are gonna take their dog to PetSmart grooming next week! I don't have a problem with the Petsmart chain, but I did have a problem when I came to this location. It was raining outside. Now, when you live in Florida, you know what that means. The palmetto bugs (roaches) want to come inside. This store was crawling with them. I saw one near the dog food. I thought, 'Ok. Bound to happen. This is Florida, there's food around, no biggie.' Then I turned the corner and saw one scramble under a shelf. Ick. Then I went to look at the cat scratching posts and there were probably over twenty of them underneath the shelving. Some were dead, some were not. It was so nasty that I had to turn and walk out. The worst part - as if anything could be worse - was that when I told the employee at the cash register when I was leaving, she said, "Yeah, someone else mentioned that to me earlier." That was it! No urgency to fix the problem. I understand that as an hourly employee, she probably can't do much, but perhaps assure me that it is being handled or at least seemed concerned. I can't bring myself to come back here. I don't think I'll ever get that image of all those roaches out of my head. read more

I do have another chain store closer, but the selection here is fantastic, and worth the drive when I want a little retail therapy for my Maeby pup. Sign up for the rewards card for special discounts. They also do grooming, have the Banfield pet hospital, but I haven't had the best experiences at Banfield before for the kitties. They also have a little adoption center, and offer training as well. But I just visit for for food, clothing and accessories... I love it. The prices seem to be a little, well, pricey, but a little less than you would pay at a doggie boutique. Fairly clean, lay out is a little weird, but doesn't take long to get what you need. read more

I live just a few minutes away from this PetSmart so I often pop in to pick up something for my cat. They generally have a wide selection and good prices. Make sure to join their rewards program if you shop there. I typically get coupons a few times a month for various items (on my most recent visit I used one I got for $3 off kitty litter). I can't speak on the vet or grooming inside, the adoption process here (I adopted my cat through an organization that utilizes a PetCo on the other side of town), or the other animal sections but this store is a really convenient and easy stop for me. read more

I frequent this store because it is convenient and really took for granted the service they provide. Recently, we added a 36 gallon aquarium and have been searching for plants and fish to add to our new aquarium. We visited many pet stores including other Petsmarts, Petcos, Pet Supermarket, etc. I have to say, this particular Petsmart is always clean and staff always helpful and friendly. I booked a appointment for 6 pm with Nina. Before I give you my complaint I would like to tell you I have been using this PetSmart for grooming my yorkie for 8 years. I tip well over 15 per service and always pay approximately 70 per appt. I am a return customer not only in the store but in grooming. This day when I arrived at 545 for my 6 appt I walked in and the young lady was there alone with a dog on the table and on the phone with what sounded like a personal call. She was on it for 10 mins while I stood there never acknowledging me. When she finally got off she asked who I was there for and then got Nina from the back. At 715 I came back to the store to shop before picking up my dog. I checked in the salon and the same girl was up front again alone. I heard a blow dryer and asked if that was my dog being blown and she said yes. I asked her why a hour and 15 min after her appt and she said Nina had 4 dogs and they ask for a four hour time frame. I told her no they have never before with me and I would be back in 45 min. At 8 pm I went back in and Nina was working on another dog. I asked her how much longer till Chanel my dog would be done and she told me 930pm!!! I have to get up for work early. If I had known it would be that long I would never have booked that late. Better yet. In the 8 years I have taken my dog there it has NEVER taken 4 hours to groom her EVER!! Nina was very non caring and said there was nothing she could do and asked if I wanted to take my dog. I said yes and I would not be coming back. Her response to that was. " that's fine" and she got the other groomer to get me my half dryed and tangled yorkie. This is how you treat long term customers and talk to them?? The groomers here are really nice and always willing workin Louie the pug. If they are booked they will place us on a waiting list in case of a cancellation. They are reasonably priced and the bath includes a nail trim. I can't say how well they do at hair cuts since Louie is never in need of one. Not very helpful staff/managers. The Store manager is pretty nice and helpful, but that's about it. I have noticed a couple trainers there that don't really know what they're doing as far as training. It was pretty painful to watch a few minutes of a couple different classes. But they're not certified and most I have spoken to don't really have any experience training. The store isn't that clean either. I've gone in there a couple different times and noticed the same dirty areas with the same dirty things in those areas. read more

got to the 9:00 am appointment, had the Vet papers, my 12 lb dog neede d a bath and a full trim. When asked if I gave her any meds , I answered 'yes' because I had given my dog three drops of a product that is a homeo pathic and recommended by Vets to calm the dog down . (Rescue Remedy) After the attendant took a long cnsultatiion break, she got back to me and said I could not leave the dog for grooming because she could be sure that the dog would not have after effects from the drug. I had previously taken my same dog to be groomed back in Feburary and everything was fine. I can only determined that not only did their rates go up 28% in 5 months, but the attorneys are more concerned with the bottom line then the welfare of the dog. read more

This is a very clean store and most of the employees are friendly. I go here mainly to get cat litter and sometimes toys. My cat is pretty picky about which type of litter he likes, and this store has a good variety to choose from. I love that you are able to bring your pets to the store if you wish. Although it can be a bit of a hassle if you have a cat. I'm sure some cats would be fine going, but mine did not enjoy it very much. read more
