I, also, have boarded elderly dogs and realize everytime that I board them that they are more susceptible to infections such as Bordatella not only due to their age but also to the stress of being away from their homes. I suspect that this particular dog had harbored the Bordatella bacteria in its system and the coincidence it had of developing into a full blown case of this non-fatal disease was caused by the stress more than anything else. Elderly dogs also have lost the elasticity of the alveolar sacs in their lungs simply due to aging; in addition, bull dogs with their lovely pug-like faces are probably susceptible to respiratory afflictions mainly due to the diminished airspace from those short noses - having boarded here many times and for extended periods, I can honestly say that my dogs have never developed any communicable disease. One of the things that both I and my dogs love about being boarded here is that they are allowed to go outside for a run and are walked several times a day. At other kennels, there is an additional charge for them to be allowed to get outside; to have someone attend them is an additional charge. I have also boarded during very hot spells and appreciate their being cooled down - unlike humans, dogs have enough insulation to where it is difficult to cool them, especially since they can only pant and perspire through the pads of their feet - cool water really is beneficial - their insulation protects them from chilling. I have not boarded anywhere that didn't charge a fee per day rather than by a 24 hour period so if this woman was getting a discount at another boarding kennel, it was no doubt due to her being a regular boarder rather than standard procedure. I have never had a problem with the kennel not being open during the specified times but do understand that emergencies happen and it resulted in an annoyance, nothing else - none of us like being inconvenienced; it sounds like a call was left at the preferred number - maybe it could have avoided by listing a cell phone number and not the home phone one. One of my dogs has really hated being boarded but when I pull up in front of K9 Dorms, she perks up, wags her tail, and can't wait to go inside - that in itself says a lot about what kind of care she gets. I have recommended K9 Dorms to several of my friends and they all have loved it and both Karen and Katie (though one of them did say that she had a problem with her dog not wanting to go home...) - I feel this criticism is unfair - perhaps the writer has simply forgotten the annoyances of other businesses.

This "obedience" school was a complete waste of time and more so, our money. It took a week for us to finally get them to write us daily progress reports (they normally don't give them until the end we were told! REALLY?!) Now we know why. Our dogs got worse after the classes, and none of what we asked for was at all accomplished! All we heard was, "they had so much fun interacting with other dogs, and playing, and running on the treadmill." We never asked for them to be trained on a damn treadmill and to play with other dogs. I came in one morning and found a dog UNATTENDED and leashed on the tread mill! If it had fallen there's no telling how bad it would have been hurt!! The excuse was it was one of the staff's dogs. So that makes it ok to leave it unattended?! Good thing it wasn't one of mine! One afternoon I had to take them home WET in the car because they were in the pool. No one bothered to dry them, so our car got all wet. We live on a lake. We didn't send our dogs to an expensive obedience school to play with other dogs and in a freakin' pool!They are full of excuses and justifications why our dogs are now WORSE when they get home than when they went. This is NOT an obedience school. This is a scam to take your money, placate and patronize you about how well your dog is learning. They want us to use shock collars with big dangerous probes tights against their necks because they can't do their jobs and train them. Now they don't come when they're called, won't get down when they jump up, won't stop dragging you on their leashes, and don't hardly even remember their names when we call them anymore. They were far more obedient before we sent them to this high priced (dis)obedience school. We paid for them to play everyday for two weeks!Hope I'm not too vague, but I am really pissed off to be taken advantage off by these unqualified scammers!

Each time I step foot into Petco I see unhealthy/stressed looking animals and unprofessional habitats. One, their birds always seem tense and anxious. I went in today and seen a bird pulling off his feathers from his body. Two, their fish tanks constantly have fish corpses in them and the breeds do not match the stickers presented on the tanks. Three, their beta fish show to be depressed, cuasing them to not be able to swim correctly. I have seen many other pet stores in my life, such as tropic waters, that do a way better job of maintaining their animals. Keep in mind, maintaining animals is not just feeding them. It is ensuring their happiness, comfortably, and health.

I went here to buy some fish tank rocks, tap water conditioner & an automatic feeder. Their supply for rocks & conditioner was very limited & only had 1 brand that I've never heard of so I purchased them. The rock instructions mentioned to soak them for 48 hours but out of all my years of having a fish I've never had a problem with inserting rocks with water conditioner. However I'm very disappointed in this place for even selling this type of fish rocks... They are filled with chlorine & killed my fish within an hour of placing him in his newly cleaned tank.
