Life feels unbearable losing my little girl who was by my side 24/7 during both of our health battles we've fought together, since the day we found each other. We were (and remain) heartbroken after having to say goodbye to our sweet boy Hank last Friday. I researched all the aftercare options and decided a witness cremation was a must for us, but few pet crematoriums offer the service. Javier assisted us and was incredibly patient, kind and gentle not only with Hank's body, but with us. You could tell Javier knows what it means to love and be loved by a dog. My baby boy passed from congestive heart failure on a Saturday Jan 4th, 2025. It was somewhat sudden but with him about to turn 14 I had done some research and decided I wanted to bury him rather than cremate. I found Pets Rest, read reviews, looked at pictures and decided that I would bury him there when the time came. The time came sooner than I could have ever expected, I was hysterical, it was a weekend so pets rest is closed. But the after hours answering service was extremely helpful & directed me to bring my boy to the sf spca to store him properly or keep him cold at home. (I chose to keep him chilled at home until getting in Touch with someone during opening hours.) When they opened that week I went in & I spoke with Theresa from Pets rest who is beyond amazing. She was sincere, patient & so helpful. My boy was firm from storing him cold but she knew how much I wanted to do the paw print keep sake they offer so she tried that day, they didn't quite come out because he was hard to move. She offered to do it the day of his burial and have him rest at room temp a bit to get better prints. This was so amazing I have them in a shadow box now and can't thank her enough. Now for the burial process. Pricing is totally fair. I picked his spot set a date and time. It was really a breeze. They offer coffin/box there for a reasonable price that they build to size. I opted to have my boys box custom made elsewhere so that's an option too. The day of burial was emotional and difficult but Theresa & the groundskeepers were amazing. They were patient and respectful. It was not a joke to them and I appreciate how delicately they handled it all. They allowed me to throw the first dirt and also gave me all the time I needed, everything was at my pace. They said when you're ready just let us know. Our dog passed and we used their service for paw prints and cremation. We requested 2 paw prints taken to ship home to our family and a box for the ashes. I gave my card number and as I was giving it telephonically I was told "UH WOW ?! SLOW DOWN YOU'RE GOING WAY TO FAST!" which should've been my sign that they are not professional and take our dog to be cremated elsewhere. I came back and turns out they didn't take the paw prints but it's "ok" because "we didn't charge for them". After reading the other reviews, this seems to be a service they frequently "miss" to do. It hurts considering how we can never get the opportunity again over someone else's carelessness. It's been about a week since our pet rabbit, Harold, passed. We weren't sure where to take him but luckily we found Pets Rest. The phone number listed goes to a call center?, which wasn't very helpful. I called to see if they had appointments for a witness cremation but the woman on the phone said she wasn't able to tell me the schedule and to go into the business in person to speak to someone. We decided to give it a try anyways and if it didn't work out we would've left him with our vet. Once we arrived we were able to speak to someone and make an appointment for the next morning. They were also able to keep Harold overnight for us. Carlos helped us the next day. They had placed Harold in the alter they have in the back room and we were able to see him for one last time. He explained what was going to happen during the witness cremation and was very caring. The whole process took a little over an hour. I would recommend Pets Rest. Losing a pet is not easy. The folks at Restful Pets were compassionate and kind. They allowed us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes to our beloved Penny. We chose a larger box included in the price after deciding we didn't want the remains grounded after cremation. We got to see the remains after cremation. Poor Penny had a cancer mound! It was black. The man left the cancer behind and scooped around it for us. The only thing that bothered us was the use of perfumes in the sanctuary and in the trash bag to carry the bedding material we used to bring Penny in. It would have been okay if they were essential oils like eucalyptus or simply myrrh. But I had an asthmatic reaction in the sanctuary and had to go outside. I just returned from Pet's Rest with the remains of my 24 year old Derbyan Parrot. My baby had a stroke on Friday 12/9 and 36 hours later he passed in my arms. The next day I emailed Pet's Rest to get a quote. Within two hours I received a response. They gave me an appointment the very next day. When I arrived Carlos greeted me with a smile and asked "You must be Michael?" I said yes. He asked me to fill out a small form and I did. Then we went to the crematorium where he politely told me what was going to happen. He placed my precious baby into the crematorium and closed the door. After about 30 minutes he retrieved me and I watched him sweep the tiny little ashes up and put them into a bag and then into a new small wooden box. The entire process took just under an hour. Carlos was very kind and sensitive to my feelings. He asked questions about my bird and I answered them. That was very helpful because it was sort of a distraction from what was happening. I read the negative reviews and I had a completely different experience. Mine was very good. I can only speak for myself and I would recommend Pet's Rest. By the way, I never met Phil. Who knew that the cemetery town next door (Colma) would also have a dedicated pet cemetery and crematorium? Our little guinea pig passed away this morning. In the past, when our pets passed we would drop them off at the vet to be cremated, but this time we found Pets' Rest on Yelp and I'm so glad we did. I tried calling when they opened, but like another reviewer said, the phone number goes to an unhelpful call center answering service that wasn't able to answer basic info about this business. But his review also said he was able to just show up in person with his pet, so that is what we did. Pets' Rest is basically just like all the neighboring human cemeteries and funeral homes, except that they are a cemetery and funeral home for pets. Charmingly, everything (chapel, graveyard, headstones, building) is proportionally smaller, but just as filled with love and reverence. The last time we had a pet die was during the pandemic, and the experience was fairly traumatic. When we dropped him off at the vet to be cremated, they unceremoniously took his body from us, as is, in a dark parking lot. They wouldn't even take the little blanket we wrapped him in. Pets' Rest was the opposite experience of that. We were treated with the kindness and sensitivity of having a death in the family. After filling out the short paperwork, we were led past their bucolic little graveyard filled with mementos and miniature headstones and shady trees, to their tiny chapel out back where we could be alone and take the time we needed to say goodbye. And that is where we left him, on the little lighted altar, under a rainbow bridge, surrounded by walls covered with other people's loving photos and messages to their pets which go back decades. I can't express enough how much I appreciate having the opportunity to say goodbye in such a perfect, grace-filled setting. Like a real funeral, I guess. And that is probably why we humans have funerary traditions, because it helps bring us comfort and closure. This was by far the most positive experience I've had after any pet death, and I wish we'd been able to have something like this after the deaths of our other pets. Incidentally, since vets have to send pets out to a crematory service but Pets' Rest IS the actual crematory service, cremation costs are a bit more affordable than at the vet's, and wait time a LOT faster being only a few days rather than several weeks. read more

There seems to be just one person who works the front desk and answers all the calls coming in, and that's understandably a lot. But it negatively impacts the client experience. While I felt that the person working the front desk was kind, she was very rushed and not attentive to the details. She completely forgot to keep track of my request for my dog's pawprint in clay, and that hurts the most because it's something I can never replace. Thank God I had the headspace and materials ahead of time to make my own pawprint at home. But still, this is poor management and NOT deserving of 5 stars. I wish this place hired more staff at the front desk so that the customer experience might improve. My dog died on a Saturday when, unfortunately, Pet's Rest was already closed. BUT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE SOMEONE REMOTELY ANSWERING THEIR PHONE DURING AFTER HOURS (WHEN THEY ARE CLOSED). I wish Pet's Rest website was updated to reflect that their phone line is available 24hours. Easy to find. It's the only old, old farm house left in the area. The cemetery started back in 1947; the main building looks older. There are 4 parking spots in front (1 is ADA). The cemetery looks warm, old, country-ish, welcoming, peaceful. But we were there for our boy to be cremated. We entered the street level office. There is a huge fish tank that immediately is calming. One wall is a plentiful and diverse display of urns for your pet. The office is the other 1/2 of the room. We checked in (we had an appointment). Carlos came to get us. Carlos greeted us - he exuded calm, warmth, welcoming. He showed us to the next building back, the chapel. It's s small room with the walls covered with photographs and messages of hundreds of pets who have passed through on their Rainbow Bridge journeys. There are about 10 chairs. At the front of the room is a table with a thick, comfy looking rug on top. St. Francis watches over the spot. There is a cross. There are a number of symbols. Carlos brought Flippy in and placed him on the rug on the table. Flip was frozen as he died nearly two weeks ago and another company had failed twice to pick him up for cremation. Pet's Rest came within two hours of being contacted, called us, made our appointment, and held Flippy for us. Carlos was so gentle. He unwrapped Flip so we could see him and say goodbye. We had held Flippy as he passed, but this would be our final goodbye. Flip's fur was still silky soft. Flip is our cat. He was curled up and looked asleep. Next, Carlos guided us to the crematorium. He explained the entire process calmly, quietly, respectfully. When we were ready, he showed us the cremation chamber. He placed Flippy inside. The chamber closed. Carlos invited us for coffee in the office, or to roam the cemetery, to go and return in about an hour. We looked around the cemetery and then waited in our car, sharing our memories of our wonderful boy, looking at pictures of him, crying. It a bit under an hour, Carlos came to get us. We went back to the chamber and Carlos unlocked it. He explained the choices we had for the next step. We made our choice. Pet's Rest provided as part of the cremation package a beautiful wooden urn. Carlos placed Flip's ashes in the urn, applied an identification sticker to the bottom, and handed us our boy. We have him home. The lady was compassionate and friendly. 2hrs went by, so I called again and got the office. The lady that answered the phone said I could come in anytime, so I drove straight there (I didn't require a pick-up service). She was at the desk when I arrived and was also very friendly and compassionate. I went with a private cremation for my small cat, the urn (pictured) was included in the price which was $165. 2 days and he was ready. I wasn't able to pick him up (due to work) until the morning of day 3, which I let them know when I dropped him off, and they communicated they would hold him for me with no problem. When our 6 month old puppy passed away after a few months in and out of the hospital, we didn't want to have the vet ER send him to Gilroy and wait two weeks. Pet's Rest scheduled the cremation within a few days, picked him up from the freezer at the vet, and were very respectful. It's a small place and has a little chapel where you can say your goodbyes (they give you as much alone time as you need). They also have a pet cemetery next door which is interesting with the gravestones, where you can wander while you wait. Their web site says it's $140 to cremate a small pet under 20 lbs. which is quite reasonable (most pet insurance will pay for this). My dog was slightly more expensive as I witnessed the cremation (just saw him placed in the oven and taken out) and got a special urn with a picture window instead of the standard wood box. I opted to take home a few bones to bury in our backyard and have the rest crushed for the urn. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I found out about Pet's Rest witnessed cremation services through a bad review for another service. I was able to call and make an appointment to witness my dog's cremation, and they are storing her in a freezer chest in the meantime. Carlos and the lady at the front desk were very kind and accommodating when I dropped Berta's body off. I'm having a hard time letting go and Carlos was very understanding and patient. They have been very transparent, which I needed. The site is a cozy pet cemetery with a homey vibe. I have read some 1-star reviews for this business that mentioned issues with phone calls. I did call today to try and leave a message to gently remind them how precious Berta is to me, and confirm my appointment for witnessed cremation on Tuesday. I was pleasantly surprised that a human answering service took my message. She was so nice and thorough about the details that I kept thinking she might be a machine. Our beloved green cheek conure, Daisy, passed on 1/1/2023. We were devastated as she's been with our family for 8 years. We called the vet initially to get her cremated and they said they work with Pet's Rest. I spoke with the lady on the phone and she was very attentive and answered all my questions. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is when I asked my husband (who went on my behalf) about the feather decoration (vet mentioned they had service), they quickly plucked only 1 tail feather for me as a remembrance and placed in a plastic bag. read more

Pet's Rest has handled the cremation for two of my dogs, once in 2018 and once in 2023. Both times they were exceptionally kind, supportive, and handled my buddies with dignity. Their ashes were returned to me quickly and in a beautiful wooden urn.
