I'm giving this facility 3-stars for a few reasons. I want to first say that their staff seemed to love the animals, which is VERY important. We consulted with Dr. Drewer, who was incredibly nice and took the time to discuss my little one's case very well (and truthfully was the only reason I didn't run out of the facility with my baby in tow as I felt she seemed very knowledgeable and caring). As my baby didn't seem to show signs of stress following his stay, I feel that they provided a level of care to him that was at least acceptable. We were put in a position to require Pet's ER services following our little dog's splenectomy. The surgery was so involved that our regular vet required round the clock certified medical care immediately following the procedure so we had to have our little guy checked in at Pet's ER for the night.
**Cost is within reason for vet care. While I noted that some of their basic check-in services seemed a bit high in comparison to my experiences with other facilities (I think it was something like $100 just to be seen), I have to keep in mind that this is an EMERGENCY facility and isn't designed to be your pet's primary care facility (think PatientFirst for Fido). Fortunately, we were a non-traditional case and since our little one was coming to their facility with all of his lab and blood panels already done we only had to pay the supervised boarding cost which was $135 and it was actually less than I expected.
**Access to the facility was a little odd. You have to be let in as the door remains locked at all times. It made me feel a little uncomfortable, at first, but seems to be due to the front lobby area not being manned at all times. Based on my observations, they are all tending to the animals that are receiving treatment and care in the facility. So I'm going to look at this from a security perspective.
**The staff members we dealt with were very polite. Dr. Drewer was extremely likable and comforting. This went a long way in putting us at ease about having to leave our little boy in a new/strange environment.
**Oh my the wait. This is the main reason for 3 stars. Had I completed this review the night of our check-in the star rating most likely would have been much lower. One word....UNDERSTAFFED. There was only 1 other case in the waiting area when we arrived at 7 p.m. and our primary vet called ahead to notify the facility of our post-op arrival. Please note...our little guy was taken immediately so at least he wasn't kept waiting in the front area. We were asked to fill out a short form, we turned in all of his records/careplan from our vet and we were asked to have a seat and someone would be with us shortly. No shortly......LONG LONG LONG. We were finally called back to an exam room to speak with Dr. Drewer at 8:12 p.m. No, that is not a misprint. One person ahead of us, we arrive at 7 p.m. on a prearranged check-in case and it was over an hour before we were seen. It then took another 10 minutes for the consult/review and front desk check-out. Guys, 1 1/2 hours is not acceptable to make people wait in a case like this, or truthfully any case. We were a basic 'cut and dry' check-in that only required a brief once over of our little guy as all the tedious work had already been done AND a call ahead was placed to the facility to arrange for his arrival.
**The ability to contact them or even get basic information before arriving isn't good. After being told that I needed to transport my baby to their facility I immediately tried calling them to find out about the process, cost, etc. The phone rang......and rang, before some strange message came on prompting me to "please enter your remote access code"....I just really don't even know what that's supposed to mean. No message that I'd called the correct number (which I had), no facility information such as "so sorry we are unavailable, we will be back at XYZ hour, etc.", nothing. Thinking it was a mis-dial or a phone service issue I continued to call....for HOURS. I tried their facebook page, no info on hours, process, additional contact info, nothing. They don't have a website. I Googled them for any info floating in CyberSpace, nothing helpful and no indication that they were anything less than a 24/7 facility. I finally contacted my vet's office to insure I had the right number and express my concern about the facility. It was then that one of their staff members indicated that they did not think they opened during the week until 6 p.m. So we were walking into an unknown deal.
**THEY ARE NOT 24/7. Which is fine, but they really need to have a better "go to" place for details as internet data says they are. Peace of mind is a MUST & info is CRUCIAL. So PLEASE change your phone situation and look into a website!
Would I recommend them? In a pinch, for emergencies, sure. But warning, take a good dose of patience and be prepared to wait! read more
