Nice new building. I saw what the last location in building was like in this is definitely much nicer and bigger at least from the outside. Staff is nice and wonderful I was just read it outside and do the Coronavirus they have protocols in place so I can't go in. But they were nice and friendly and collected the furry angel. read more

At 2 AM on a Saturday morning my Dog declined very rapidly from Renal Failure at home and the decision was made to go to Pets ER for end of life. Upon arrival there were several cars in the parking lot and when approaching the front door, the sign read to call from the car and a sign that read, if you can't be nice, you will be asked to leave, not a very welcoming sign when everyone there is probably experiencing an emergency situation with their pet. We called and soon a receptionist came to our car with a clipboard to fill out information indicating this was an end-of-life visit. We placed the clipboard in a box at the front door as directed and continued to provide our dog comfort in our car which honestly was better than in a waiting room full of people. Within about 20 minutes the receptionist returned to the car to take our dog, telling us they were going to put in an IV and we would be called to come into the building in about 30 minutes. over 50 minutes went by, and my wife started to become very concerned and called the receptionist to pleaded with her to allow us to be with our dog. Knowing that if we were not nice, we would be asked to leave. Within about 10 minutes we were permitted to enter the building and escorted to a comfort room where our dog was wheeled in on a small gurney covered with a blanket and strapped down, I am sure for his safety. The Tech said "he has been looking for you" which was very sad since we were not with him for now over an hour and he did lift his head for a second and saw us. When the blanket was removed, we were startled by all 4 of his legs were bandaged because they were not able to find a vein in his leg due to dehydration. We were permitted to hold him in our laps on a small couch in the room which was awesome and we comforted him and I am sure he knew we were there which was very comforting to him and us. Another Tech came into the room with a sedative to inject into his muscle to relax him. He was breathing heavily but he we continued to comfort him. The Tech explained to us that the only option was to inject into his jugular vein in his neck and that she would return in about 10 minutes. After about 20 minutes she came back, and my wife asked if he could get more sedative because of his heavy breathing thinking he may have been in pain. The Tech left and returned with a syringe and before she could inject, our sweet 14-year-old dog took his last breath in our arms. My only negative feedback is that their end-of-life process should be reconsidered. Owners should be able spend as much time as possible with their scared, hurting and confused pet. Communication should be improved and remove that sign on the door regarding "be nice or you will be asked to leave". That simply does not invite a felling of love and concern for pet owners who a worried and concerned. read more

My husband and I had to take our dog Baxter there 2 weeks ago due to his heart condition, they were very helpful in the treatment they gave him that night (which helped him a lot and help him feel better) They were very kind and caring to him while he was there, however knowing his condition could get worse we found ourselves back in there last night with Baxter who was having an extremely difficult time breathing, didn't think we'd be back so soon but there we were, they were honest in telling us that even though they could do another x-ray and tried the oxygen our Baxter was just too sick and no matter what they might have tried we would probably end up there in another few days and we didn't want that for him so we made the difficult decision to let him go. They gave us as much time with him as we needed and when the time was right we had the vet come in with us, she explained everything that she was doing as she helped him cross over the rainbow bridge. When our Baxter took is last breath and she told us his heart had stopped they gave us again as much time as we needed to say our final goodbyes. We appreciate the honesty and compassion they not only had towards Baxter but us as well. Karen and William Chinn read more

No stars. This place sucks. I am from Bear De and was down visiting family and a stray pit bull tan into her yard and attacked my dog and us. It took enriching we had to get that dog off of my dog. Finally got him off, and rushed my dog to this place, and even with him bleeding with a hole in his chest skin, THEY WOULD NOT SEE OR TREAT HIM WITHOUT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS UP FRONT. THAT'S ALL THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT, GETTING MONEY!!!! They do take his vitals and said he was stable enough to make the ride home and see his normal vet. So upset read more

I had a 10 year old cat that slowed down and then stopped eating/drinking and was puking constantly. Somerset Animal Hospital was my regular vet and they examined her, didn't really find anything definite but gave her some medication and drew blood (leaving compression bandages on BOTH legs which were hard to get off this girl) . After unclear test results they wanted me to treat her at home shoving pills down her throat for a month although they didn't know what was wrong. Not only would she vehemently fight being restrained (she was born a stray and I've had over 50 years of cats... this one was extreme about restraints), but she was throwing up anything she ate/drank so I opted not to torture her that way because it seemed pointless. Long story short, she kept going downhill until finally I knew I had to have her euthanized... one of the emotionally hardest things I ever had to do. So I called Somerset on a couple occasions and each time they were not able to take care of her (even though this takes all of 5 minutes) until days or weeks ahead. So I called about 12 other vets in the area, all were booked way in advance and required appointments days or weeks later, one new mobile service ("House-Paws" who wanted to charge about $260!!) suggested I take her to Annapolis and try to get her euthanized there. I had called Pets ER a couple times just to inquire and they assured me they needed no appointment for this and would take care of her when we were ready so this morning I managed to get her into the carrier and took her in. A girl came out and took her in immediately, (Covid has them restricting access) she was euthanized and the horror was over. They were great, and offered me a few different cost options due to my limited budget. So glad they are there because nobody else was helping at all during this stressful situation. read more

We had a scare last evening with our Sharpei pup, after calling around locally there was no one available to see us or to talk so I searched and found Pets Er. Although we had to call upon arrival and wait in our vehicle overall We would use them again. The staff was friendly and so was the vet they called us twice to keep us informed about our baby and after about three hours we were on our way with our baby girl! I will say when we arrived there were about 15 vehicles and they kept them moving pretty fast! Thanks guys Chuberella seems to be doing better read more

Our sweet Sophia Rose, a 16 year old miniature dachshund, had reached her end of life today. I called Pets ER and they were compassionate and caring. There was a 2 to 4 hour wait but they prioritized our sweet girl. They let us hold her and spend as much time with her as needed. My dog was stung by a bee that started to swell very badly last night so we ended up at Pets ER In Salisbury MD, and it was the WORST EXPERIENCE. I can say that I will NEVER recommend or return there! I was met with complete unprofessionalism. I called one hour after my dog was taken inside (after I wasn't allowed in) to ask for an update and was told repeatedly "no news is good news" and "there are other animas in a more critical state." After trying to explain that I understood other animals could be more critical and that they were busy I wanted to know at least if my dog was given medication and if the swelling was getting worse/better because I was told that it could swell to her throat and potentially block her airway. The doctor called (2 hours later from the time I got there) to explain my dogs condition and told me to closely monitor her for the next 12 hours. Long story short I was told "it honestly could have been faster if they weren't on the phone with you" I'm assuming in reference to the call I made 1 hour in. I could not believe the words that came out of someone who is held to a high standard as a DOCTOR and who is apparently the head Vet. I did not think it was unreasonable to call an hour after my dog was taken in not knowing ONE THING about what was going on. The actions that took place last night were uncalled for and very disrespectful as there is more the story. The office Manager ended up calling me the same night to apologize and I explained that no matter how busy you may be or no matter the state of your animal you should be treated with respect as I'm sure we all can relate to in our own jobs and she agreed! If they treated me like that it makes you wonder how they are treating your animals behind closed doors...... read more

Open 24/7 even on holiday weekends! I learned this the hard way since we were in Ocean City, MD and alllll the vets in the area were closed during Labor Day weekend. My puppy (5months) got bit in the face by another dog at the Fenwick State Park beach and later in the day her face swelled up and the cut was oozing. :( I called around 8PM and we were told they were on AT LEAST a 2 hour wait. Yuck! But they WERE the only vet open in the area... trust me I called all of them. They were extremely nice and informative on the phone, even trying to give me advice and input. The lady even told me up front that the flat fee is $100 to see the Dr. not including any meds or anything. Which is a lot, but I am thankful that they told me before I asked and were very up front about it. Anyway, we decided to wait to morning to see if the swelling went down. Well it didn't, so we took the 45 min ride to Salisbury in the morning, maybe around 7-8AM. Luckily there was no one in the waiting room, we saw a Dr. in about 30 minutes. The waiting room is tiny, however it is filled with patients pictures and thank you letters and it really goes to show that they really want to help and care about their little patients, which is nice to see. The Dr. was so so so nice and very easy to talk to and told us our options. One being to try the antibiotics and pain meds and see if she looks better soon. Option 2 was to put her under and check out the cut that is inside of her mouth (since the Dr. couldn't get to it bc my dog wouldn't let her) and make sure it wasn't anything more serious, but that would be pricey. She even told us that she wouldn't recommend opt. 2, and wouldn't do it if it were her dog, but just wanted us to know it was an option... what a Dr. that doesn't want to squeeze every penny out of me and recommend we do things even if it isn't necessary? I loved her! It took us a LONG time to get out of there. My pup was getting restless and so were we, I understand they were getting busy but still, let us pay and get us outta there! read more

I would give zero stars if I could. This happened while I was on vacation in Fenwick Island, Delaware. First they just about killed my dog with an incompetent surgeon who didn't know necrotic tissue from healthy. Yes they got the sock out but that's all they did. The outer incision was closed through the fat not the muscle. Necrotic tissue in the intestine was stitched together and failed. They don't return phone calls and when I called in the morning I was told to take my dog to Annapolis- 2 hours away. His home vet was also 2 hours away, so guess where I took him. I was told when we arrived that if I had waited another couple hours to make the decision to come home he would have died. As it was he had a 70/30 chance of dying. His vet said if he survived the night it would be 60/40. This all happened in 2 days. His home vet managed to save his life to the amount of $3600 in addition to the $2500 charged by PetsER. I disputed the PetsER charge with my bank and with the evidence sent by my home vet the charges were reversed-which PetsER didn't dispute. Now they have the absolute nerve to send me to collections??!!! After severely injuring and almost killing my dog??!!! Absolutely not! They will not be getting any money from me. Please beware and don't take your pets here. read more

First disclaimer, they're an emergency place so they're expensive. Really expensive! That aside they were awesome when I had to put my dog down. The staff was kind and understanding. They even let me stay with him while he passed away. They let me cuddle him as he slipped away. Just the way it should be. Afterwards they made sure he was bundled up so I could take him with me to be cremated. I will never forget their kindness when places like Healing Hands refuses to help us earlier that day. The Pets ER people were awesome! read more

I delayed going here because of all the bad reviews, I shouldn't have. I should remember that many more people post negative reviews than positive. I had no choice on Sunday but to take my cat Gracie here because she was having breathing problems; it's the only vet ER around. I was very pleased with my experience at Pet's ER. Everyone was kind and helpful. Yes it was a long wait but there were lots of other animals there waiting too. The staff does their best taking each case as quickly as possible based on the severity of the issues. When it was Gracie's turn, Dr. McCall called and explained what was being done and what they thought the best way forward was. They were up front about costs and it actually cost less than I expected and my cat was admitted to the hospital and stayed overnight. I would not hesitate to bring your pet here if you have an emergency. read more

Do not bring your animal here if you have any sort of choice. I brought my 2 year old cat in because she was sneezing excessively and foaming at the mouth. They did x rays and started her on oxygen and IV antibiotics. The doctor then calls me to tell me she sees a "soft tissue mass" in her esophagus and runs all these tests to see if she has cancer. She also suggests an endoscopy and rhinoscopy of the area that of course they can't preform in house. The night shift doctor comes on and says that there's only swelling because of an upper respiratory infection and that the day shift doctor over diagnosed my cat. Wasted my money and wasting precious time that my cat could've been getting several doses of steroids to open her air ways. She only got one dose while here. They sent me away with my cat still requiring oxygen and she's not eaten in 3 days. read more

He has a hole in the side of his face the size of a quarter . Don't waste your time drive to anyplace else but Pets ER if your pet need emergency medical attention! My cat was off of her medication due to USPS losing her package in the mail. She couldn't see and was struggling with her hyperthyroidism because of this. I told the doctors this. So they made me wait 3 hours because of the so called more urgent cases, which I have a hard time believing because they wouldn't even let me into the building. I had to sit in my car. The only evidence I have of that is them bringing someone's DEAD DOG into the parking lot for everyone to watch be put into the owners truck. I wasn't allowed to leave. They continued by telling me they could get me some extra doses...for $150. A full tube of the compounded medication is $40. They also tried telling me it was a brain tumor and that I'd need an MRI. I wasn't born yesterday and I knew that wasn't necessary. I took her to her primary and the vet confirmed she had gone blind and no, did not have a tumor. Money hungry people who did nothing but stress us both out. read more

I am the second person of the night at Pet's ER that has been tremendously upset by how the receptionist handles any situation. We have been here for 3 hours for 1 X-ray. They keep saying they will come they don't- they charge more than they originally say they are and then hold your dog hostage - and literally will not give your dog back to you. I just want to say, these people were very kind and understanding about the fact that my house had burned down and thus did not charge me a wildly expensive fee. That said, they told me my cat only had bladder irritation, and was otherwise healthy, gave him prescription food and heavy pain medication, and sent us home. He was dead five days later, and he was only 3. So, either they didn't really look at him or the pain medication basically killed him. 10/10 for outward kindness, 1/10 for actual vet service. read more

It's a shame that as a local business they would be as shady to attack another local business without proof! When I say shady I mean they are verbally telling pet owners that are coming in that they animals have gotten sick from a local business instead of putting it on paper because they know if they were to put it on paper they would get hit with a law suit so fast because they have no proof! Also when that local business owner calls to have a conversation they won't take the phone call or return any calls! Instead they are just spreading lies! Courteous staff, but seemed a little short-handed when we arrived. Only one vet on staff that night and was in surgery, so we waited more than an hour to be seen. Everyone was incredibly apologetic and friendly, and we completely understood the reason for the wait. When we were finally seen, our dog was quickly diagnosed and treated. Fees were modest, though there is a $100 examination fee (that they readily mention upfront). If we ever need emergency pet care again, we won't hesitate to visit. read more

I took my dog here after an allergic reaction and water aspiration from swimming in the ocean. The staff was awesome! They took my dog back right away. The doctor took the time to explain my dogs case to Me. The cost was reasonable for emergency care. Many places in Baltimore would have been almost double for the same care. I was there from 8pm - 2am. Which isn't the most fun I've ever had. However I see a lot of people complaining about the turn over time in heir reviews. Anytime you go to the ER and get treatment, the doctors have to assess and reassess you after each thing they do to see if it worked. There isn't a miracle pill that gets you in and out the door in 2 hours. There's a reason why your in an ER, your health aliment isn't going to just instantaneously disappear just by walking in the door. Long story short: my cat was misdiagnosed, and it left her deaf. I noticed my cats ears were bothering her, but no vets were open so I took her to pets Er. They told me she had a simple yeast infection in both ears. Gave me drops, which ended up making her 10x worse. I took my cat to another vet after realizing the drops weren't working and only seemed to be making her worse, and the new vet explained she actually did not have a yeast infection, she instead had a serious bacterial infection. My new vet also told me the drops Pet Er prescribed should only be taken once, two times a week tops... not twice a day every day for ten days like pets Er prescribed. My new vet put her on the proper treatment. My cat is better now, but she has been left deaf in both ears, I am heartbroken. If your cat has an injury, take them to Pets ER. If your cat is suffering from some kind of illness, you're better off waiting and taking her/him to a vet. read more

I would never take my dog here again. My dog experienced a seizure (his first to my knowledge) and I took him here and with all of his bloodwork coming back fine the vet jumped major conclusions and went from a-z saying it was most likely a brain tumor and to take him to pen vet immediately. On 4/12 My little cat got sick. I spent the entire day in this town trying to find a vet to see her. I have just moved back here in the past week and not one vet would see her. So against the advice of some locals I called Pets ER. I had to wait until 6 pm for her to be seen, and it took a very long time. BUT, they were extremely compassionate, they asked me before they did anything and they gave that little baby the best examination that was possible anywhere. Unfortunately my babies problems were far more serious than anyone could have known. They ended up being neurologic. The issue I was having was that she was going to need additional hospitalization after they closed. And I had no vet. The people at Pets ER found a vet that was able to take her transferee and things went very smoothly. No place I have ever been has went to so much trouble for a stranger they may never see again. And they sent my baby with everything she would need at the other vets as well as all of the notes they had made. Was it expensive as I was warned? Not really, when you compare the compassion, the services rendered and the assistance offered it was a real bargain. And yes they saw my baby when no one else in this town would. Was the outcome good? well that remains to be seen, but her prognosis was not good from either facility. Please do not hesitate to take your baby there in time of need. The money you spend will be well worth it. A truly professional establishment. Thank you so very much for caring for my Pia. Bob S. read more

I wish I could rate lower than 1 star. I took my dog in because his hip was hurting him so much he could hardly walk. It took the staff two hours to even give him medication for the pain. The doctor said he was a little depressed and she was concerned with a little spot she saw and that he had some pneumonia (which the reported stated they knew but also states they did not start treatment of it). We rushed to go get him! They brought him out with stuff running out of his nose and handed us a bag with the reports, x-rays and an IV drip bag with all the hoses on it. We drove away and my baby boy died in my arms 30 minutes later. When I called them back hysterically asking why they gave me back was so sick for a 2 hour drive, the women who answered said "well you didn't bring us a healthy dog". I hope the current staff and doctor can see my comments . You have the worst run vet and or ER service ! You have six people besides yourself in a building and not one of them is qualified enough to wash out a wound and give antibiotics! Meanwhile you make customers sit in their cars and wait hours 4 to 6 hours to be seen ! You are not allowed to leave to even run errands. Even though they don't come and get you personally they call you on cell phone. Not to mention the outrageous prices. Guess you figure since you are the only gig in town you can charge whatever you want to panicking pet owners. I took my cat with a gapping hole in his face from a abscess home without being seen after waiting 5 hours and being told there were 2 pets ahead of me . Now an hour earlier there was one pet ahead of me. I understand some emergencies are more dire than others but that's why you have triage and assistants to take care of non life threatening things. But guess the 6 other people in the building sit there playing on their phones or something . Don't waste your time going here they don't care nor know how to run a medical office of any kind . read more

Our dog, Sophie, suffered some sort of insect bite on her muzzle while playing in the yard and over next day or so swelling did not go down. Went to Pets ER on holiday weekend (Memorial Day) where Dr Drewer saw the dog and diagnosed her in about an hour. Even though we had to wait in parking lot it was faster than I would have thought and car is way more comfortable than Vet waiting room. Dr. was very thorough and pleasant and went over everything with us over the phone. Sophie recovered over next two days and is back to her old self. Thanks guys! read more

I have never been so horrified with the lack of feeling and empathy at this hospital. I phoned ahead notifiying the staff that my sixteen year old shitzhu was actively dying and that I needed to bring him in to be euthanized. I expressed that I would appreciate that they be kind and gentle as this was a member of our family. The lady was very sweet and assured me that they would be gentle and sensitive during this sad time. We arrived in Salisbury an hour later to a reception anything but sweet. The young lady greeted us with a clipboard and asked if we were the ones who called needing our dog euthanizied. She told my son to fill out the form and told me to give her the dog so that they could take it back and put in a catheter then they would let us know when we could see it. I told her that I would stay with the dog, as I always do with my dogs. She said that it was thier policy to not allow the owners to stay with thier dogs. I was in tears and she turned and left. I began to leave with my family. A young man came out and said that he would put in a line with me in the room, but I would not be allowed to touch my dog. He said that he did not want to get bit. I explained that my dog was dying had no teeth and that he did not need a line. I asked why he would not just give him sedation and put him to sleep. He rose his voice to me to take command of the room and told me to fill out the paperwork. I again asked him if I could just stay with my dog. He replied that, 'he aint getting bit' and that he has the choice of how to do this and that I could watch. He left the room and I decided that this was not the place or the people that I wanted to have the honor to share the end of my dogs beautiful life with. read more
