I always used to love going to the pet section of the local Focus in Formby and looking at all the exotic animals, even if I knew there was never any chance of my owning one. Unfortunately, Southport Aquarium and Pet Supplies doesn't have many real-life pets there and there definitely isn't a tarantula or chinchilla in sight (a particular favourite of mine in the past), but the selection of supplies for different pets is both extensive and varied. Their aquariums and various related accessories are similarly wide ranging, meaning Southport Aquarium and Pet Supplies is a very handy place to visit whether you're looking for fish food or a squeezy toy for your Labrador. The shop is a bit on the small and cramped side, but if you can get past its claustrophobic nature then there are plenty of bargains to be had here.

There was a good selection of tropical fish and a reasonable selection of goldfish and koi when I visited, however it was December so some of the pond fish tanks were empty which is understandable really. As well as all things fish related they supply pet supplies for just about every other type of pet you can think of and also sell rabbits, guinea pigs, cockatiels, finches and reptiles. Hutches, cages, bedding and food complete the picture. They also have a large range of tents and camping accessories too. Helpful staff, plenty of parking and Ma Bakers licensed coffee shop alongside make it well worth a drive out to visit if you're a pet owner or looking to set up an aquarium.

This is also the biggest pet shop in County Road and one which has a decent variety of well looked after pets, accessories and food. The staff are always friendly and willing to help although at times you need to be patient before you get seen to, as it does get busy on occasions. If you are a lover of pets, this is a great place to come for a browse and be able to obtain tips and advice from knowledgeable staff. Personally, I have been to places that sell a wider variety of fish but if you're after reptiles or spiders for instance, then this is your Aladdin's cave!

What a great place to visit! Went here with the extended family while visiting and stayed in the…read morecafe (tea and cream scones British or what!?) It was incredibly warm but walking out the doors into the beautiful gardens and sitting in the gazebo with a light breeze made it an absolutely great day. The centre itself is nice, well stocked and plenty of helpful staff. Coming from Ireland I've never seen a butcher's, deli, cafe etc inside a garden centre but it seems to work well:)
