I've been MD hopping since 2006, trying to find a compassionate and trustworthy provider. Glad I found Dr. Oh. I think he is an amazing physician. He's smart and dedicated to his patients. I like that we can call him for urgent care and he can squeeze us in during his office hours. He's pretty much available every day of the week which is a major plus for me. You never know when you're gonna need a doctor for those moments that are not quite emergent but urgent enough that you need a doctor asap. He's pulled us through some frightful times and I'm glad he's in charge. We can talk to him about anything relating to our health without judgement. You know what I mean? Some doctors berate their patients for not making wise and healthy choices. You feel bad instead of better after visiting your doctor. Not Dr. Oh. He will actually listen to you. He will help you and educate you on what needs to be done to keep you healthy... then he'll scare you a little bit so you'll actually do what he tells you! Overall, I can say that my MD hopping days are over. Dr. Oh is stuck with me.

I've found Dr. Elterman to be a very gentle soft spoken doctor who appreciates the vulnerability of dealing with urological issues which have a physical and emotional impact. His staff was nothing but friendly. They have a very busy practice and every time I've been there they've been working with a lot of patients. There are some comments here that take the team to task. My experience was nothing like that. I wonder if our complex, convoluted health insurance system creates frustration that gets misdirected at the people who have to navigate all the different systems in order for a medical practice to exist. As well, The Elterman center is staffed by mostly Russian language speakers so I also wonder how much of the reaction is affected by our American culture which has spent decades demonizing Russians in our movies and television creating a subconscious bias to hearing the accent as harsh and brusk. BTW - I was not paid to write this as some imply. Also, I waited until my condition was resolved before adding my two cents in order to get a complete experience. For what it's worth...

She had many health issues that required hospitalization on 3 or 4 occasions. The main cause was diverticulitis & UTI's that kept reoccurring & causing severe infection & pain. It became apparent that the diverticulitis wasn't going to just go away. As is the case during her last hospitalization there were so many interns, residents, doctors & specialists that came to see my wife in the process of determining the issues & what the best course of action would be. It's very frustrating having everyone & everything coming into her room. All the specialists urologists, radiologists, infection control doctors & colon surgeons (Dr Park). Dr Park is a very knowledgeable, likable & personable doctor that took the time to explain what needed to be done to prevent the continuing bouts w/diverticulitis. He said surgery should be done to prevent these reoccurring bouts. He performed the surgery back in November of 2022 & as of this date April 12 2023 there haven't been any reoccurring bouts with my wife's diverticulitis. Thank you Dr Park for a great job. We are both very grateful that things have returned to normal.

It took several doctors before I was finally directed to Illinois Cancer Specialists. They quickly…read morediagnosed my condition as multiple myeloma. Before I started receiving treatments there, the pain in my back had almost disabled me. Spent 16 to 18 hours in bed daily and had lost a significant amount of weight. Now, 2 1/2 months later, my back is almost pain free. I no longer use a walker and feel as good as I have in 6 or 7 months. I have an appetite again and gained some weight back, too. Of course, I still have cancer and will go through a stem cell transplant in mid to late January, using my own cells. This cancer is not, as of now, curable, but it's one form of cancer for which the treatments are positive in extending one's life for quite a long time. In particular, I would like to compliment Dr. Hakimian, MD, Dr. Klein, MD, and Ms. Mary Pryka, nurse practitioner, all of whom have been instrumental in handling my case. I have asked many questions, have always felt that they have given me direct answers, and as much time as I have needed. I don't feel rushed and now have a good understanding of my cancer and the drugs, shots and infusion treatments I am getting. Do I have a long way to go? Yes, but I feel good about it. My anxiety level, which was stratospheric before I found them, is really just about normal again. (Yes, I mean that.) I have a plan now and a group of professionals that can get me to where I need to go. I feel pretty fortunate. Furthermore, and this was important to me. The ICS is in the northwest suburbs. Getting there doesn't take a lot of time for us. That's good because I'm there weekly for now and will be going there 2-3 times a week during recovery. In an emergency, I don't have a long way to drive. Plus, parking has been a luxury. There's always a place. Perhaps some of you can't understand why I would put this on my list of important items. I get that, but given the reputation of the place and the health care providers, the location was something that I valued. Last, the front desk receptionists are pleasant and responsive. And, the nurses who provide weekly treatments could not be more caring about my condition, always asking how I am. I believe them to be sincere about it as well. For information, I have no relatives at ICS and did not know anyone there before I started. The references for me were from doctors who I had seen and from others who had received or are still receiving cancer treatments there. They are pleased with the results.
