Dancing Frogs! This is one of the weirdest, most Texan…read moretruck stops that I've ever been to. On the roof of the place, you'll find a few giant dancing frogs, made by the Texas artist, Daddy-O Wade. The frogs are immortalized playing Mexican musical instruments, like a froggy mariachi band on the roof of the pump area. Nice. Daddy-O Wade made other famous Texan works of art, like the giant boots outside of North Star Mall in San Antonio, and the giant tractor trailer sign made out of ranch gates also along I-35E. I'd always heard that this truck stop used to have an ulterior purpose here back in the day. It used to be that the signs would change from "Gas" to a lit martini glass at night, hinting at what else goes on at this truck stop at night. Inside, the place looks ancient and worn. In the entry way, be sure to check out all the signed photos and head shots of the famous celebrities that have stopped by. This is Willie Nelson's favorite gas station! George Strait apparently likes their tacos. I've heard that the story of this place was that since this town is in the middle of the belt buckle of the Bible Belt, you couldn't buy beer here in this part of Texas for the longest time. Then one day Carl decided he was sick of sobriety, so he bought the town, which was a few mobile homes. He incorporated it separately from the rest of the community, and became mayor of his own town, which he named after himself, and built this truck stop as City Hall. Once he was in power, he immediately legalized the sale of beer, and relaxed the rules. Hoooray! The system works. After he legalized alcohol, he set up a strip club in the back of the gas station, with mirrored ceilings, a stage, and a pole in the center. But it's classy, people get married here. At one point, he had a swimming pool for the truckers, and sold giant chicken fried steaks. Send that mayor to Washington! They sell beer here now. Lots of Lone Star Beer and Shiner. They also have truck driver supplies, like caffeine pills, CB antennae, and mud flaps with a silhouette of a naked lady. They also sell Bio-Willie, which is Willie Nelson's own brand of gasoline, made from renewable resources. A while back, part of the truck stop burned down, but the giant mariachi frogs on the roof miraculously survived. It's been lovingly rebuilt, but it's not quite the same. The pool and the steaks are gone. There are showers in the back, for truckers, that work on quarters. The place is clean, and they offer lots of snack, drinks and parking. The truck stop is located along the way from Waco to Dallas.

Used the amenities, filled up with gas at a great price and moved on. Let me say that Buc ee's is the Greatest! Truly a 5X5 Star Company! Here comes the "BUT"! Checked on their coffee and it's still made on their Massive Coffee Makers! Coffee gets old quickly that's why McDonalds has a time limit on how long their coffee may available for sale. That's why their Coffee is good and Fresh! Buc ee's Not So much! At Buc ee's, I would have to look for a Coffee Maker that just finished brewing a Couple of Gallons of coffee. Then pour it quickly before anyone else beats me to it. They do have Espresso single serve Coffee Makers. Didn't try one! But as a person who has traveled to Europe and other places in this world, I would say the Italians have my attention on their Espresso! Tried several as we traveled from the north of Italy down to the Almafi Coast. Wow and Wow. I will try Buc ee's Espresso on this trip. But NOT their regular coffee. Take a lesson from QT and Valero! Freshly ground Coffee served one Small to Extra Large Cup at a time. So I'll get my Coffee at QT/Valero and Eats & Gas at Buc ee's! My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Service Critic; I have over 65 years of Supervision and Management Experience. I went from picking Cotten, Fruits and Vegetables in many parts of the country, as a Migrant Worker to earning a College Degree with a BS in Business Management. Plus Serving my Country in the Air Force for over 22 years. As a Civilian I have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. I've successfully managed full service as well as fast food restaurants and have had my own successful Catering business. I have traveled to many places in this world and tasted the many culinary delicacies this world has to offer! The bathrooms are always clean! The room itself has overhead occupancy lights, making it easy to see which ones are available. Germ-X is available throughout the bathroom and in the stalls, along with CleanSeat foam for cleaning toilet seats and handles. Hands-free features include automatic flushers and paper towel dispensers. There is also a bathroom attendant keeping everything clean. I love using Buc-ee's bathrooms! The food selection is huge, so there is always something--or a couple of things--you find yourself wanting! There is ALWAYS fresh brisket on the board, a tortilla maker, and so many other food options, including beef jerky, candied pecans, burritos, sandwiches, cookies, fudge, chicken strips, ice cream, and more! Snacks, drinks, regular and seasonal merchandise, shopping carts, and baskets are all conveniently located throughout the store. Outside, there are tons of gas pumps, although you may have to wait during busier times. 16-lb bags of ice are only $1.99. Buc-ee's does reserve the right to limit the quantity. There are also designated dog areas with black waste bags and waste bins, but regular trash cans are located near the entrances. Just a heads-up, this location does not have a car wash. The cashiers are ready to help and have bags open to pack your purchases. Both cash and tap-to-pay are accepted at checkout. Tobacco products are located behind the registers. Buc-ee's is always a great stop. They're open 24/7, 365 days a year, so no matter where I go, I always stop at Buc-ee's!

There are 3 regular stalls & one handicapped stall in the restroom. So, if you are a group of women traveling together, this is a good place for you. There's plenty of space in the clean restroom also. I'm sure the mens room is similar but my husband was outside getting diesel. In the store area past the restaurant there are plenty of drinks & snacks. If you are a tourist & you want a basic souvenir then I love that there is a section in the corner for tourists with items that are reasonably priced. I did see a man with his feet up, someone outside wandering around and soneone messing atound at the service desk. After an hour i asked the guy at the desk how long he'd been on hold with crst(often happens), he replied he was about to start on my trailer. I gave him another 15mins, told him i was leaving and got my key. Went to the loves in Italy-was in and out in an hour. If we weren't required to fuel at Hillsboro Loves i would never stop there again.
