Although they were really busy, they took me in and sat me right as I entered and the waiter was very courteous and attentive. I was very impressed with the crème brûlée and highly recommend it. The ambiance of this restaurant felt luxurious. However, the seating area itself is cozy and small so I don't recommend this place for big groups; It felt more like an intimate setting where you can quietly take in your environment while enjoying a delicious meal. I am visiting from Los Angeles, but I can't wait to come back to Edinburgh to experience the atmosphere of this adorable restaurant again!

Delightfully Parisian! Tiny gem in the heart of Edinburgh! Authentic French cuisine. Friendly staff.. Generous portions! I was glad we ordered only one entree to share... there was enough for r three!! We couldn't finish it all despite it being delicious!!!!

Stopped here for a small bite & coffee to last until dinner. There were 4 of us ladies, we were seated right away. We ordered coffee, Le Chêvre chaud en croûte et sa tapenade, (Warm goat's cheese with olive tapenade and fresh basil in filo pastry), Traditional French onion soup, bread (included), coffee, and a rose wine. The restaurant felt right out of Paris (I've been), so we knew we were in for a treat. Best French onion soup of our lives. We couldn't stop talking about it. I kept the business card just to write this review about it. I thoroughly enjoyed the warm goat cheese in the filo. So many different flavors that combine so well on the tongue. If I had more time in Edinburgh, I would of come back and experienced a full meal there. Next trip!

    Coq a Vin

I wouldn't normally choose a French restaurant for dinner, but it was late, and the only other places open were pubs or pizza joints. The waiter who greeted us at the door was super friendly, super informative, and super French (or else he was super talented at faking an accent). He told us right away which dishes they were out of (it was after 10 pm, after all), and then left us to look over the menu. I decided to try their Coq a Vin (which I realized to my dismay that I'd pronounced incorrectly), and my husband ordered the Toulouse sausages. We also ordered a glass of the house red, which was served in a water glass. Is that normal? While we waited, they brought out bread and our wine, which was a nice start. Our meals followed not long after, and I was immediately impressed. The dish that was set down in front of my husband was served with potatoes and had a sizeable salad included (which I'm sure he needed, at that point). They also brought out a container that had four different types of mustard for him to try. My coq a vin came out in a small pot, which our waiter then plated in front of me. I've made coq a vin a couple times at home. At least, I've made what I thought of a coq a vin. After this meal, though, I realize that my dish is a sad imitation. Their version had a bold, rich flavor, without tasting overwhelmingly of red wine. The chicken was moist and tender, and the vegetables within the sauce were perfectly cooked, not mushy at all. My husband, meanwhile, was so absorbed in the destruction of his meal that he had gone silent, except for the few yummy noises that escaped between chewing. I think he liked it. We enjoyed the meal and the service very much - much more than I expected going in. The service was excellent, and the quality of the food - even at closing time - were top notch.

    Mussels with blue cheese

Read reviews for this restaurant on TripAdvisor and it was so close to where we we're staying that went our second night. Very small and charming with their French chef and waitstaff. I had the sparkling peach wine, which wasn't peachy but liked it, the French onion soup and the roasted chicken with blue cheese sauce. The soup was subtle and the chicken was so tender and I loved the sauce. My husband had the mussels and the sausages, he really enjoyed both. We enjoyed the food so much we came back our 4th night here. I had to have the chicken again, I also tried the goat cheese appetizer, which I also enjoyed. My husband got the rabbit rillette and the steak, cooked medium rare, again everything was so good. We are planning on coming one last time before we leave because good food is memorable and I will miss this place when we leave.

A wee gem of a restaurant, found this down the grassmarket went in with my daughter. Small but cosy. Staff friendly and ameniable.. I had chicken and blue cheese sauce.. Lovely.

Petit Paris is an excellent French restaurant in the Grassmarket which offers delicious food and speedy service. The prices are painfully expensive, however, and it's literally jaw-dropping to scan the menu once they've sat you down. The starters are all reasonably priced and I went for the fish soup which was rich and tasty. The mains are all about £15 each! You'll be hard pushed to find something which takes your fancy for under this price and it means that you spend double what you would in any other restaurant. I opted for the roast chicken supreme which tasted amazing (thankfully) and had some nice cheese and bacon to accompany it. We each spent about £20 each in here and, although it was a great meal, we'll check the finances before coming again.

Great service, good food, good value. Kinda tightly packed in the basement dining area, but still nice. Would certainly return.

It was beautiful indeed and the service was good. At first glance at the menu I was a little disappointed because I was in the mood for brunch type of food, but settled on the sourdough bread with crab. The crab was smothered in butter, but tasted so good...and Edinburgh had some of the best sourdough bread I've experienced! The menu was a bit sophisticated for our teens, but there was a kids menu for them to order from. They enjoyed an order of fish sticks and french fries. If I were to come back I'd probably go for dinner over lunch since I think their menu is better suited for that, but overall was a lovely meal.

We were finally taken in by the two course for 18.95 set menu as neither of us was ready for a three course ensemble and the price compared to much less renowned restaurants in sleepy Oxford. I was a little concerned about how pretentious the place would be, as this is the Scotch Malt Whisky Society after all, with a private members club upstairs. However, the interior was quite modest, with an eclectic collection of modern art work and open curtains allowing for just the right amount of natural light coming through. We went around 6:15 so it was quite quiet when we arrived. The staff was a little bit somber and standoffish but the service was reasonably quick. The food was actually quite impeccable in terms of quality with seasonal items dominating the dishes. My first course was a thick and creamy Pumpkin and Parmesan soup which was more like a smooth puree with pickled pumpkin along with bits of hazelnuts and porcini mushrooms. My lovely boyfriend went for the soused mackeral with white crab meat, carrots, and dill. He reported the mackeral as being fantastic. For the main we both had the Serrano ham with sweet potato puree and a crunchy blackened fig which complemented the crisp ham exterior perfectly. The glass of white wine we had was glorious as well with the ham. Overall a well-thought out menu and an atmosphere to which I couldn't in good conscience give 3 stars. Although everything was truly delicious, the portions were almost appalling. If we hadn't been lured out by a friend for an impromptu appetizer right beforehand, we would have been left almost completely starving. Slight less empty space on my main dish would have left everyone satisfied.

In addition, we were offered 3 amuse-bouches, and had the opportunity to purchase a mignardise + tea or coffee. Plenty of food. And everything was beautiful. Pictures attached.
