The experience I had today leads me to encourage anyone considering this party shop to unfortunately travel further to ANY other store. I brought six regular-size balloons that cost $16 to fill each with helium. I don't fear overpriced things in this side of town, but the rudeness of the folks - who framed this expensive service as a favor - put me over the edge. While I was there, myself and others were ignored and treated passive-aggressively. As I walked around the shop, other customers came over to ME to express their dissatisfaction with my treatment, but mostly to explain why they were also upset. I hadn't raised a fuss so I'm not sure why I became a bit of a lightning rod, but it was nice we were all in the same boat. I wish I had some good constructive criticism; but it's just a general warmth that one would expect at any business, but especially a party store, that was not only absent, but replaced with a black hole for funds and kindness. If folks working here are struggling in other areas of their life, I send them love and hope that things improve; bad vibes always have a source somewhere. That said, this ain't my party store.

She was incensed by a customer who came in to blow up balloons last minute, whispering to me in a condensing voice "she must be the nanny'! She then proceeded to over charge me for 3 greeting cards, and when I asked for the receipt she hesitated, and started going over how much they were . Bottom line: she overcharged me!! to make matters worse, she then tried to refund me less money then what I was owed! All around bad experience...people beware!

I absolutely loved this store until today. I was initially so excited to find a set of glasses and…read more8 beautiful dinner plates that I was going to set my table with for a Nonprofit, Board, dinner tomorrow night that I am hosting. I also found a few more items that I loved. I actually was multitasking and needed to use my phone to make arrangements with the President of one of the 4 nonprofit Boards I serve on the EastEnd of Long Island. The time was around 1:30 PM and there were about 8 customers in the store along with 3 dogs with their owners. My basket was full with around $200.00-$240.00 worth of merchandise and there were only two customers and two cashiers at checkout. As I waited my turn and finishing up my conversation, one of the cashiers says, "Take it outside. No one wants to hear your conversation." Meanwhile I'm next in line and about to check out. I wasn't saying anything offensive, nor using profanity while speaking on the phone nor addressing this extremely rude cashier. If I had, I might expect a reaction like that, but not from an employee of the store. I then proceeded to ask her if talking on cell phones were against store policy. She said no, but ALL the customers were complaining and it is rude. There were maybe two or three others around so I asked who is complaining and that I'd like to speak with them. Then the customer at the counter who made the complaint was almost apologetic by saying, "Everyone does that, including myself. It's just annoying" The cashier further commented, You should hear the conversations people have it here! Ugh. The complainer happily l left, but it wasn't over for me. I asked the cashier for the store manager and she went she finally arrived was very nice and apologetic. She said she'd speak to the cashier because there is no policy against the use of cell phones, but there is a policy against employees speaking on behalf of customer's complaints to another customer. Even though I loved each and every item I carefully selected, I decided to leave everything in the wagon. The manager tried twice to check me out personally. I said, "No thanks. If I brought any of these beautiful items into my home, they'd remind me of the disrespect and humiliation I felt from that horrible woman working as a cashier." I will never shop at that Home Goods again at the Wainscott Store, Montauk Highway.

Also some good kitchen items and a nice selection of coffee, tea and condiments. Even imported pasta from Italy can be found in small quantities. This place is deluged with shoppers in summer and pleasantly empty or close to it off season. They often carry a few higher end items for big ticket shoppers here. I've seen some dramatic items. A huge wrought iron covered pumkin shaped gazebo of sorts nearly 9 feet tall meant for a garden. A metallic horse up on hind legs maybe 10 feet tall one summer. Good for an equestrian theme foyer. Someone buys them. I've also seen better quality imported wool blankets here. A well developed pet department. Pet beds. Pet shampoos. Pet toys. Pet sweaters. Pet scratch posts. Pet swinging beds. Lastly, in winter a vast amount of discounted items not moving because of the reduced winter traffic out here. So a few bargains can be had. Staff are wearing masks and taking temperatures each day. No gloves but I wear mine. The manager was seen coaching a staff of 6 or 7 people on their work. Very friendly and motivating. Glad to see them treating the young people there properly. A bookmark worth saving when needing household supplies when out here.

However, my experiences have mostly consisted of only browsing, because the prices are WAAAAY off the mark. They label all the CDs on the shelf inside as $20. This could either be really good, or really bad depending on what you come across. I've seen busted up, repackaged old jazz and blues CDs that I could probably get for $5 in FYE or Barnes and Noble or even one of the local record stores on the east end with a $20 sticker on it. I've seen completely mint double albums still in the shrink wrap for $20 that would probably run up $40-$50 anyplace else. However, it's not limited to jazz music, that's just my taste. They have a wide selection of pop, country, classic rock, modern rock, and probably the most diverse collection of world and international music, much of which is labeled by country of origin (e.g. shelves with Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, etc). That's cool to investigate, but once more- every CD is labeled as $20. So it's a complete crap shoot as far as the CDs are concerned. The books are always interesting, many about art and spirituality and science, but also much about local lore and history. Again, prices are questionable. The art is always fun to look at, and it's displayed prominently up front, but I've seen paintings by local artists I've never heard of that are quasi-abstract expressionist east end Pollock regurgitations with $30,000 price tags on them! Fun to look at, but man I have no clue how any of them get sold. I guess if you can afford to live in Sag Harbor, you could afford a $30,000 mediocre painting. However, some of the more crafty things and smaller prints and paintings are worth the prices charged and are well made. They have a large collection of Day of the Dead sculptures and carvings that are vibrant and aesthetically pleasing. My dad bought one of a casket that has a skeleton open the cover when you pull a drawstring! Very fun. There is a basket out front of $4 CDs, but most of the cases are cracked and broken, and the reason they're $4... the music on the CDs simply blows logs. Strange forgotten reggaeton dancehall grooves from the mid 90s, mindless New Age Kenny G smooth jazz that couldn't sell soul to the Devil himself, and awkward post-grunge outfits that fell through the cracks of the culture's collective puberty and was thrown out with the old toys all inhabit the $4 basket out front. Amusing to look through, yes. But not worth a purchase unless you are in the mood for a hearty belly laugh. So for the time being, I will continue to return to the Romany Kramoris Gallery and see the sights, and perhaps land a great deal on that double album I've always been looking for. But until that day, I'll continue to gawk at the prices, contemplate the art, and see the forsaken albums that the music industry forgot.
