Oh my lord, the home style potatoes were delicious. Easily the best thing on my plate. - Martin en kayak au lac aux castors ($15.95) - the buckwheat crepe tasted very healthy (aka. bland). Texture is an acquired taste. - Le pas un autre grève s.v.p.! ($17.50) - I had a bite. She also ordered a side of asparagus ($1.50). Basically, a poutine bowl without the sauce. Honestly, this was the best way to order. Decent chain eats at L'Oeufrier. 3.5 stars.

For our last proper meal in Montreal, we decided to have breakfast at Régine Café. This was…read moresomewhat impromptu, as I did not read up on this place in preparation for my trip - instead, I did some quick research the night before and found that it consistently ranked as one of the best breakfast/brunch spots in the city. That being said, I booked a table and we made our way over. Régine is apparently a popular spot - indicated by the rope they had set up outside which suggested that a line can form. Since we booked a table, and it was a Monday morning, there was no line and we were seated right away. The restaurant is broken up into two main dining areas with large windows that let in a lot of light. The decor was tasteful but not my style - it definitely gave off that afternoon tea feel with upscale accents and an overly feminine aesthetic. It was nice but just not my taste. The menu has a really good variety of breakfast and lunch items - I was taken aback by how many creative dishes there were, not just standard breakfast items. I needed caffeine, so I started with a cappuccino which was really good, one of the better ones I've had. For my actual breakfast I went with the Chic Croissant; this was essentially a breakfast sandwich with pulled ham, egg, arugula, and an aioli. Due to the fragility of the croissant, I did not eat it as a sandwich - but despite that the dish was delicious. Everything tasted super fresh and all the flavors worked really well together. I don't think I ever had pulled ham before, but felt it was super creative and elevated the sandwich. We wanted to try some of their bakes, so we also got the cinnamon roll and the scone. We were given the option to have the cinnamon roll covered in frosting but we opted to have it plain. Even without the frosting, the roll was excellent - I usually find cinnamon rolls to be dry, but this was super m-o-i-s-t with a generous filling of raisins and cinnamon; it was one of the best I've had. The scone was lavender and white chocolate; I don't usually like lavender but this was pretty good and not overly heavy. It came with sides of macerated strawberries and mascarpone which I don't think were needed but nice to have. Service was great - everyone was warm, friendly, and efficient. Overall, Régine Café exceeded my expectations - the food was excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to return for another meal. I understand why this is one of the more popular spots for breakfast and brunch in Montreal.

This is possibly the best fruit plate I have had outside of the Caribbean. FOOD I was torn between French Toast and the poached eggs with fruit, called Le Quartz. I settled on this "healthier" option because I didn't want to be weighed down for the day. It was the best decision! This fruit plate was epic! It had (and I'll definitely miss some stuff): fresh fig, field berries, an apricot, half a plum, apples, pears, pomegranate, dragon fruit, prickly pear, kiwi, melons, pineapple, clementine, grapes, mango, and I'm sure other fruit that I've missed. It's served with two poached eggs, cottage cheese and a toasted English muffin. Yum! It was so good, but almost too much food for one person. I ended up sharing some of the fruit with my BF, who didn't get any with his crepe. SERVICE Our server started out a little rocky, but quickly redeemed themself. They seemed a little miffed that I didn't know they would serve my latte with a KitKat stick and chocolate powder on it. I'm allergic to cocoa, so I had to send it back. I was sorry, but also, who does that without asking? They seemed to think I should have expected that. However, once we got over that little hurdle, they seemed to recognize that I wasn't being unreasonable and became rather pleasant and quite personable. I suspect the initial reaction was just a momentary lapse. Customer service can be exhausting, and I don't think they intended to be rude. AMBIANCE It's a typical brunch place in terms of decor and ambiance. It's a little noisy, but not rowdy. It's a little bland, but not industrial. It's not fancy, but better than a truck stop. The food more than made up for the ordinariness of the space.

I often go there in the morning with a colleague for a quick cup if the traffic spared us a couple of minutes. But it's like if the concept that someone might have only 15-20 minutes for coffee was a novelty to them. Shortly after we get coffee, we know we must start harassing the staff to get the check and wait again to get the machine. The coffee is good, but boy, the service is lacking. I didn't do a review of this place just because, basing it only on a coffee before work isn't fair. Our plates were ok. Ok size, ok food. My friend got a big onion skin in his potato. The ham was definitely from a real ham and not some pressed cheap meat. But there wasn't much. The potatoes were slightly undercooked. I think what rubbed me the wrong way was that we waited in line (without any line) and got told we missed the early bird special by 2 or 3 minutes. We obviously arrived last minute for it. But, I would have expected to at least get some polite explanations or something. Not a "can't do, the computer says so". Maybe the weekend staff goes smoother.

I was traveling with my brother who had been to the city before, and recommended Le Vieux Vélo for a late breakfast since he had tried it before and had a good meal. That being said, we hit the ground running and made our way over. LVV is primarily a breakfast spot; while they have a decent selection of items, they specialize in Benedicts and have several varieties to choose from. The dining area is split into two areas with subtle yet tastefully done decor. It can get a little tight, but it wasn't busy when we were there so space was not an issue. I normally don't gravitate towards Benedicts, but I couldn't resist since I was here. Even though the different flavor combos looked tempting, I went basic and chose the classic. I was, however, given my choice of meat so I chose ham. The benny was good - everything tasted fresh and the hollandaise wasn't too rich which is generally a concern of mine. Roasted potatoes and some greens were served on the side which complemented the eggs well. Service was good, we were taken care of promptly and everyone was friendly.
