In the meantime, I needed to get a fade on the side and back of my head so my top can grow. I'm nervous going to a barber shop for a few reasons. I've read online reviews at this place and my husband also comes here every month. There's about 6 or 7 guys who works here and they are always packed with customers. Generally, I'm told most of the barbers here are really good with the clips but my husband did tell me that Dilson seems to have the most customers returning back and requesting his service. I've decided to request Dilson. I told him what I wanted and he did just that and at each stage, he's telling me what he will do and stopped to ask if I wanted him to do other shavings and shape ups. Long story short, I got what I wanted and he made me felt very comfortable. I will definitely come back and will seek for him again. The parking here is really tight and limited. The shop is small. When you come inside, you are to select your barber on a computer screen. If you don't care who to serve you, you can select whoever is next available. Once you enter your selection, you get a printed receipt with a number so you can wait to be called for your turn. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon and they were busy so I can just imagine the number of customers coming here over the weekend. If you can come during the weekdays, I highly recommend.

I had liked it at first, but the more I looked at it, the less I liked it. (I couldn't go back and edit my original review to make it more accurate. Lesson learned, I won't write anymore reviews until the experience sinks in a little!) So I took a shot at the Main Street Barber Shop. Timmy seemed like he knows what he's doing, but he wasn't doing it when I was in his chair. I think the problem was related to him reeking of marijuana. No judgment about smoking, but you need to bring your game face to work. And 9:30 in the morning seems kind of early to be firing up a big old spleef out back. I had to come back another day to get it cleaned up. But that cost me another hour and a half: drive there, cruise around looking for a parking spot (have you ever tried to park a car in Metuchen?) waiting for a barber, the actual cut, drive home... Who has that much time to waste? And the repair job required cutting my hair shorter: not really stellar. A semi-crew cut wasn't what I was looking for, I needed to look sharp for a job interview. I was happy with my haircut, and the barber used a razor to finish fixing it, which to me is the difference between a good cut, and some rando haircut place. She also asked me whether I wanted to trim or blend my hair, which is exactly the right kind of question, because I never know what I want and I have to be nudged in the right direction. I like the I could use a credit card to pay, and to leave a tip. My only suggestion would be for the barbers to use warm foam. Also New Brunswick is a pain to park in, so give yourself time to get there.

The place looked like a barber shop in the middle of a nice game room. The barber (sorry couldn't recall his name) asked the requirements and quickly jumped to work. He did a pretty clean job but I had a complete turn off when he assumed that I wouldn't need long sideburns and decided to chop it off short. I immediately told him that I usually sport long sideburns and he must have checked with me before proceeding. I was equally surprised that it cost $35 for a simple haircut. Anyway the place had good aesthetics and ambience and it would definitely cost that much if you are also making use of their pool table or the PlayStation. The kid goes down for a nap and my wife green lit the hair cut. I got there 10 minutes early and they were able to take me a few minutes early which I appreciated. The guy who cut my hair was good. He was young looking but he did a great job. He did a lot of attention to detail with my beard and whipped out a straight razor to clean up my brow a bit. I thought the prices were affordable and the shop was clean. Added bonus for Rutgers students they have a discount which is always nice. In about 30 minutes I was transformed from possibly homeless to stylin. And located on George Street in New Brunswick is pretty central. Worth checking out if you need a hair cut.

I can't even fall asleep…read more Called the salon today to make an appointment and was so sad to hear that my talented hairstylist Allen no longer works here. Receptionist asked if she can assign me with someone else. I said anyone but Jimmy (owner). My son and I had him once before and he did not do a good job. When I walked in today, they gave me Leo. He took over Allen's station. I asked for 2" off with lots of layers to give my hair some volume since I have very thin hair. Leo showed me how much he would cut off and I gave him the go ahead. I thought Asians are supposed to be great at math but holy shhhh he started cutting and cutting and cutting and it got shorter and shorter. At this point it was hard for me to say something. Pretty sure that he cut off FIVE whole inches. Not only did he cut off 5" but the layers he gave me were very choppy, it looks like he hacked it with a saw. The receptionist came by to sweep up my hair with a dust pan and my eyes were bugging out because I was in shock at how much he cut off. I spend an obscene amount on high quality hair products at home to keep my hair healthy. Now it looks like shhhh. Never in my entire life have I ever gotten such a bad cut. I know it's just hair and it will grow back but I felt I need to write this review to warn others. When layers are trimmed, it should fall softy and naturally. He also thinned out my ends so much that it looks weird. OMG!! I can't!! The strange thing is, all the best stylist at this salon, Allen, Ben, Jackie left. Now I will have to go into NYC to find a new salon. This has traumatized me.

I've followed Ryan from Bridgewater to Scotch Plains to Edison, and finally over to his own shop when it was opened a few years ago. Why do I drive from Branchburg to Metuchen and pass a zillion barbershops on the way? Because the quality of the cut and attention to detail from Ryan, and from all of the World of Beards barbers for that matter, is second to none. They take their time with their clients and ensure that each client is satisfied beyond their expectations. (I even trusted Ryan's recommendation on a new hair style that he felt would suit me better and, not only was he right, but I've never got back to my old style.) World of Beards = A great cut, great shave, great barbershop conversation, a beautiful shop, not to mention that they're phenomenal and caring human beings... I knew I found the right place when I could simply tell them to do to my hair and beard the way they would if they woke up one morning and looked like me, lol! (She always did quality work). I figured I'd give this new guy Quan a chance. He was friendly but this is about the service provided. He absolutely butchered my neck and I don't have sensitive skin. He didn't even put on any spray or lotion for the burn. Picture is 5 hours later and my neck is still red and burning. I'd be surprised if he cleans his clippers. I've been going here for years but sadly never again.
