Dr. Wong was recommended to me by a family member and he has been my doctor, my wife's doctor, and my son's doctor for many years. He was also my mother's doctor before her passing from cancer. I read some reviews below talking about wait times. I can sympathize with their frustration, but I have never witnessed some of the times mentioned below. I know from experience that doctors don't run late because they are out playing golf. They run late for reasons like: they were responding to a hospital or care facility for a patient emergency or people show up late to their appts in the office which pushes ALL of the office schedule out of alignment for the rest of the day - the only way to recover would be to either cancel appts or he skips lunch for the entire office. I never doubt for a moment that he doesn't have myself or my families needs and concerns at heart. When my mom was in the hospital with a medical emergency, and her assigned doctor wasn't taking her recovery seriously (risking a case of renal failure), I brought in doctor Wong who took over and saved my mom's kidneys and probably her life too. My mom stayed with him as her doctor even after she was diagnosed with cancer that took her in two months. Dr. Wong was always attentive and honest about her outlook. He even called me after hours many times to check on my mom, discuss my mom's health and cancer, and was there for my mom and I when she was passing. He knew she was not a fan of doctors and he tailored his care and responses to try and put her at ease and encourage her continued interaction in her preventative care. He even recommended a fantastic heart doctor for my mom. My interactions with doctor Wong have been the same. He's honest and upfront about medical issues. He refers me to specialists when the need calls for it, and he doesn't just come in and lift my arm and walk out. He thoroughly regards all of my health history to help try and keep my healthy. He even operates two offices - one in Dublin and one in Livermore at the time of this review (I think he had one in Pleasanton that closed). This helps make his services available to multiple areas of the community. I trust doctor Wong and appreciate his care. read more

The office is absolutely terrible. For over 3 days they haven't been available to take calls---pretty much straight to hold and after being on hold over 40 minutes give up. Dr. Wong is personable but you are in and out in minutes. Failed to diagnose a heart murmur---didn't know about it until seeing another doctor on another related manner. Big disappointment. Never thoroughly reviewed my father's file. Was his new primary doc and doc at nursing home. My dad had heart failure. He was in major decline. I had to beg for my dad to go home on hospice. Doc was uncomfortable saying he had less than 6 months. No other docs had issue with it. Other specialists were trying to prepare me. My dad went home on hospice and lived 2 months before passing. Dr. Wong needs to understand decline and heart failure better. Other docs saw it plain as day. Then I went with the hospice company he is director of. I went 4 days unable to get prescriptions. Seriously pathetic agency. Nurse/case manager was half attentive and not following up. Once I switched hospice companies I then get a call that some higher up was stepping in to fix all the mistakes. Too late, someone on hospice needs their meds!!!!!!! You don't screw around with that and be dismissive of such an urgency. Dr Wong needs to pay attention. read more

SHANTELL in the office is an absolute nightmare. SO RUDE and I'm a brand new patient. During our very first phone visit, Dr. Wong warned me he runs late a lot. He was an hour late to our phone apppointment. For these two very critical reasons alone, I'll be actively looking for a new office. It's unfortunate as he seemed like someone we would like, but Shantell was AWFUL. And I have 2 small children. I cannot be waiting an hour for an apppointment. read more

Dr. Wong has been our family physician since we moved to the Tri-Valley area 5 years ago. He is a bit of a straight-shooter and will tell you like it is - which I suppose could be a negative for some folks, but do you really want your doctor to sugar coat his assessment of your health or condition!? I've known him to go out of the way to see us on short notice, and he is very reachable by phone (his answering service will page him). His office was one of few that was prepared for the H1N1 shots and we got the kids immunized with no wait while we heard stories of friends waiting 8+ hours to get their shots. He was also very accommodating when we referred a couple pregnant friends to him for shots. Finally, I don't understand Cindy F's feedback as Dr. Wong recently saw my mother-in-law who has no health insurance at all. He gave her just as much attention as us (BS/BC PPO) and even helped her out by providing some drug samples until she could get her prescription filled in LA. read more

Dr. Wong has been my doctor for about five years and I seriously cannot stand him. He is late to every single appointment and has left me waiting in the room for up to forty-five minutes. Once he comes in he gives you a five minute explanation. Not a big fan. I really need to find the time to change doctors. read more

Completely disappointed! Dr. Peter Wong is only nice to you so long as you have premium PPO insurance. Once I switched from a good PPO to Blue Shield due to a job change, he would not approve my prescription refill unless I came back into the office to get the same prescription I had before. Do I have idiot written all over my forehead? Then he cut off my refills for allergy meds saying I was no longer his patient. Like oh really? I'm so fed up with him, that it's like whatever I don't even want to deal with him anymore. I definitely DO NOT recommend Dr. Peter Wong. He is moody, rude with a poor attitude and terrible service when it comes to dealing with issues that arise with insurance. Find someone else who actually cares about their patients rather than just getting paid by insurance and finding excuses to charge you $$$$! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Wong for over 10 years, off and on. He is one of the most personable physicians I've ever known. He's always gone out of his way to make sure my family was taken care of; even after I lost my health care coverage. I had Kaiser for many years, and when I had to find a new doctor after changing jobs many years ago, I was very lucky to find Dr. Wong. I have been a patient of Dr. Wong for a couple of years. Every time I go in he has been patient, has taken the time to listen, and has offered good advice. I am not a health care dummy, so when I request a specific antibiotic or other medicine, he reviews the other possibilities, but generally goes with my request. I did have one scheduling issue with the office but they quickly resolved it. I would recommend him for Livermore residents. read more

Dr Wong has zero respect for your time. I read the reviews and knew he had a tendency to run late but it is beyond ridiculous. My appointment was at 9:15 this morning and because I am a new patient I was told to be there at 9 AM to fill out paperwork, which I was. I was moved to a room at 9:15. After sitting for 45 minutes the front office lady came in and told me the doctor was almost there, meaning he wasn't even in the office this entire time. There were several other patients in there as well, so I have no idea what time he would have finally seen me. I got up and walked out. I will find a new Doctor who at least has the common decency to show up for work on time when he has patients scheduled. read more

Dr. Wong was recommended by a family I know but he has been OK. He is nice but he hasn't really impressed me yet. The doctor himself seems to be good; he has made solid health recommendations in the brief period I have been going to Tri-Valley Medical Associates. His front end staff are however ... well, just plain awful sometimes. While many of the office staff who work here have been very helpful and friendly, all too often I and my family are greeted with rudeness and incompetence by the people sitting at the front desk. We have frequently had to wait well over an hour for something simple (like a flu shot for example) and the utter unprofessional and ill-mannered (downright vulgar at times) behavior of the check-in staff is simply shocking. read more

I am 80 years old and I have seen many, many doctors with moving and insurance changes. Some have scared me with off the walladvice. Dr.Wong has given me lots of free samples. Noproblem with referrals. He has always been like a family member to me. Recently my daughter-in-law took me to see him and he explained something to her regarding herhealth. (She had received the wrong diagnosis from her doctor and he explained to her why it was incorrect.) I would not recommend Dr Wong. The ladies at the front desk are rude, immature, and unprofessional. Dr. Wong makes you come in for an appointment for every little thing and of course you get charged. I had to come in for an appointment for him to tell me he would refer me to a specialist... That 3 min office visit cost me $30. Then, I have been on the same medication for over 2 years with him (11 years total) and now I'm told my auto refill is declined because I "should have known" it was time to see him. So instead of approving my medication and making an appointment, they declined it until I made a check in appointment. I was treated by the staff like I was a child. I also asked for a call back from the doctor but instead got another lady in the office. Big disconnect in the office. Would recommend getting a more professional staff. read more

Dr. Peter Wong has been my doctor for over 10 years. He is extremely caring and goes well out of his way to make sure all his patients receive the best care. He has made house calls for my convenience, has been very helpful when I needed advice by telephone, and very responsive to any question I posed. Recently, he threw a "flu shot" party in his home, complete with food and entertainment for his patients. I thought he was helpful and to the point. No chit chat just plain direct and to the point. I cut my arm in a Moto accident which needed stitches but I waited til morning to come in and he told me it was too late for stitches. Good knowledge to know you need to go to hospital or Dr and get stitches within 6-8 hours after injury. Oh well, I am healed now and no infection... read more

I notice that reviews of Dr Wong vary widely. This is true within my own family. My wife switched to another doctor after finding Dr Wong unhelpfully terse and prone to oversimplification. I find Dr Wong helpfully brief and simple in his discussions. So maybe it depends on the style of doctor-patient conversation you want -- or perhaps on the type of illness you are experiencing. Mine have been very routine for a 60-year-old man; my wife's have been rare. But from my experience so far I give him an "A-OK." read more

dr. wong has been taking care of me for the past 10 or so years. i too lost my health insurance a time or two and he made it affordable not only with my office visits but also with my medicine. he is knowledgable, kind, patient, really just a good man. one time i thought id try another dr. upstairs from him on a friends request, i was soon reminded of why ive been loyal to him this far. i recommend him to anyone 150%. read more
