I have been a patient of Dr. Tan for many years and recently needed to see her again. Finally, I am taking the the time to post this review... While Dr Tan is extremely busy, she and her staff find a way to create an appointment as soon as possible when we are sick. While very willing to wait a week or two for a routine check-up, when feeling sick she is usually able to see me (and other patients I have talked with) later that same day or the next. If the schedule is packed the staff will often arrange a phone visit with her to determine acuity and needs. She really cares, listens, and works late into the evening to keep up. We need more physicians like her! read more

Tan has been my doc for going on two decades now and she's great: good bedside, efficient, and knowledgeable (keeps up on the latest trends and advances). She has always been able to meet with me on short notice, be that in person or on laptop telehealth video visits. If it were up to me, I'd never see any doctor at all, but she incentivizes me to get my yearly blood work done, which is essential for tracking year-to-year trends (PSA, etc.) especially as I get older. Stay far far far away from this doctor and office. I'd write a 0 star review if possible. Really poor experience all the way around, it started with Krista yesterday, I was hung up on after they put me on hold, then I had to recall and answer all the same questions from the previous call. Sounds like they had a lot of availability, I was given a next day appointment and had 3+ windows to choose from. Today someone named Lauren called me directly and says "Dr Tan is no longer seeing new patients" What's weird is I've been a patient of hers previously but I guess if you don't see them over a 2 yr span they remove you as an active patient. Really disappointing experience, I like Tan, but the unprofessionalism from the front desk/scheduling, specifically Laura/Lauren and Krista, have me inclined to write this negative review. I rarely review places, but given the complete negligence of this doctor and the staff, I feel like I need to save others from this place. My in-laws recommended this doctor to me as I was looking for a general practitioner in town. I went in for a physical & when making an appointment, the woman at the front desk was very rude on the phone. I was a bit alarmed, but because this doctor was recommended, I thought I should give it a try. I went in for my appt. & Dr. Tan was nice, but saw me for maybe 30 seconds. She barely touched me & rushed me out the door. I said I haven't had a physical in awhile so would love to get a full panel blood test done. She said she will write up a lab request for whatever insurance covers & handed me a piece of paper. I said I would like everything & will pay for anything my insurance doesn't cover. She brushed me off & off I went to go get blood work done with my husband. Shortly after, my husband got a call the next day saying everything looks good on his results. I was expecting a call shortly after, but got nothing. After a couple days I called and the front desk person said they'll leave a message for the Dr. A few more days went by & nothing. I then called again about a week after and the lady assured me the Dr. would check the results and call me. Again nothing. Finally I was so frustrated that about 2 weeks of hearing nothing from my results, my husband and I went into the office. The 2 women at the front desk were incredibly rude and basically said everything is fine. Needless to say, we have both found a new primary care doctor that is amazing & genuinely cares about her patients. Dr. Tan clearly is all about charging your insurance & doesn't care about her patients at all. I have never been treated like I was just a number or a paycheck to someone. The front office staff (at this point in time at least) could do a better job communicating with patients and families, especially when issues arise and follow-up is required. Dr. Tan communicates well, clearly, and honestly. She cares about her patients, but she has a lot of them. After my primary care physician left her practice a few years back, I've been looking for a new doctor. It was getting to the point Urgent Care was my "primary" and I really needed someone to look after my medical needs. I tried the doctor my previous one recommended, but with my chemical sensitivity I reacted to her perfume and couldn't go back. I then found someone I really liked, but it was the last day that office was open.. so, finally, I found Dr. Tan. I am very happy with her. I've seen her a few times over the last couple years now for cellulitis infections, bloodwork and other routine stuff. Yes, the visits are brief, but she is very thorough and kind. I recently went in with a lump in my hand worried for the worst, but ends up just a cyst. I felt very safe during COVID times, being the only person in the waiting area and the no other patients when taken back to an exam room. I think because of COVID, patients are spaced out much more now and I was able to chat for over 15 minutes with Dr. Tan about whether getting the COVID vaccine was a good idea at this time. Normally I like to get in and out, but her time and attention was appreciated and very helpful. I feel if I needed tests or anything else of concern, Dr. Tan would make sure I received the proper care and/or referral necessary. The front desk was friendly both on the phone making my appointment and in person. read more

This doc is a revolving door... feels like she is trying to bill insurance as much as possible. I call for a refill and am asked to come in. I come in and she says "thanks for coming in. Any concerns, no, okay good I'll send in the refill"... alas she gets to bill my insurance for a whole appointment. Repeat this every month? It's thyroid medication- not addictive. If anything she'd need a blood test to see if any adjustment is necessary, not to look me over for 13 seconds. She is a prime example of what is wrong with out health care system- people that actually need to see doctors have to wait longer than necessary so that doctors like this can play games to bill more appointment. Ive been seeing Dr. Tan for a 6 years and to your face she is a very sweet and friendly doctor. I always thought that, but in the last few years I've noticed a decline in her abilities to follow through on pharmaceutical medication, if you need prior authorization she will not call your insurance it's to much work for her it took me calling her weekly for her to do it, She will also call you to tell you to come in to give you your results just so she can collect the copayment.. (if the results are great then just say that!)she will never turn anyone away which sounds good, but then doesn't give you appropriate time to ask questions and if your lucky enough to ask a question she talks so fast you don't quit understand what she said or meant.. I've decided that I will be looking for a new doctor that makes me feel like I matter and I'm not just there to make her money.. read more

I would like to give 0 stars. I went to Dr. Tan in 2015 for a tonsil infection, during the visit she launched into why she needed to give me the HPV vaccine Gardasil9. I was confused, and scared after hearing her rant about crazy things like how I would likely give my girlfriend anal warts and cervical cancers. Fearful, I regretfully submitted, and the following years of my life were never the same. Besides being a sinister poison that should never have been approved for use, especially given like candy or pushed on a patient - it says right on the hpv vaccine insert that it should never be administered to someone showing signs of an active infection - WHICH IS WHY I WAS THERE... I can sue for that alone. It's malpractice. This vaccine wrecked my immune system and gave me all the classic, chronic Gardasil syndrome illnesses, which still persist 6.5 years later. I've called Dr tans office 2x since and each time they act like it's impossible, that the vaccine caused any illness. Screw you and your damned vaccine schedule Dr Tan. I hope your payment from Merck buys you a lovely shrimp cocktail to choke on. read more

If you're looking for a family physician that will look after your well being in all situations do not expect it from this practice. To put it plainly, she does not want the potential hassle of paperwork or any legal docs that come with an auto wreck. This is extremely distressing should an accident happen to you or your loved one. Even more so if you're a single mom making it on your own. So where does this leave you when you have a severe concussion, blurred vision, slurred speech, neck and back injuries? Up the creek without a paddle! I do appreciate getting a same day appointment when I really needed to be seen and prescribed medication. The wait might be long as she's always got patients but I do appreciate that she takes her time to hear you out. I don't know what they teach at UCLA med school but it's not how to be a good doctor. Office staff highly disorganized, messed up my work doctor's note two times, my consultation with Dr.Tan only lasted 5 minutes without exaggeration and she sent me home without anything because "my insurance probably wouldn't have covered it anyways". In order to even speak to Dr. Tan and ask her questions I had to call back and forth between her receptionist who would "leave a message for her" with every single follow-up question I had. And Dr. Tan wouldn't even call me back personally, it was the receptionist. When I went to my school's clinic I was given a brace, crutches and instructions on how to care for my injury and how to start doing exercises to rehabilitate it. Literally all Dr. Tan did was give me test results and told me to ice, and it was difficult to even receive that from her. read more

I've never once felt as if she dismissed my concerns or rushed me through my appointments. I appreciate her attention to detail when it comes to treating any of my medical issues. Even with all that has happened & continues to happen with COVID, Dr. Tan hasn't stopped with her continued positive care. Her office is always clean & feels like a safe environment. Came in with a concern a few months back about my fear of flying and Dr.Tan could really care less. Brushed it off and told me I would be fine. Didn't know doctors could cure your anxiety with their words. Didn't even refer me to a psychiatrist to further discuss my fear or had any sympathy what's so ever. Called the office to request it be sent over again, still waiting. Not interested in playing phone tag so will have to find another Dr, get another referral so I can see the specialist. If I could give a zero star rating based on my most recent experience, I would. 1 star is more than she deserves after the "care" she showed for my situation. But I'll start from the beginning. I found Dr. Tan in February 2013 probably by searching yelp, or my insurance's website in a hurry one time when I got strep throat. I needed any doctor that would take me in the same day, and she was the only one. So, went in, got a culture, got meds, recovered fine. No big deal. Until 8 months later when I get a notice that I was being sent to collections for $11. Never got a notice from Dr. Tan's office that anything was even due, since I had double coverage insurance at the time. But I couldn't really blame Dr. Tan herself for that, just her very incompetent staff. Fortunately, I don't get sick very often, so I didn't have to go back for quite some time. Now, March 2015 and I come down with what I think is the flu. I came in on a Wednesday, she sent me home saying I just need to rest and wait it out. Take DayQuil/NyQuil. I go back in on Friday because I can't breathe, I can feel mucus and fluid in my lungs. She diagnoses me with Bronchitis and Walking Pneumonia, and gives me 3 different medications: an inhaler, cough syrup with codeine, and a z-pack. Over the weekend I sleep, take all my medications as prescribed, and nothing seems to help. On Monday afternoon after taking the cough syrup to try to get some sleep, I feel different than the last couple times I've taken it. The cough syrup says if you feel flush in the face, rapid heart beat, etc. call your doctor immediately. So, I call her and explain that I'm having these symptoms. "I'll leave a message for Dr. Tan and she'll call you back." No call back on Monday. I call again twice on Tuesday and tell the receptionist that I'm short of breath, and I need something to help me sleep that will also control my cough. Still can't get a call back from Dr. Tan. Wednesday comes, and I'm fed up. I have slept maybe 3 hours in the last 2.5 days because I'm coughing, and out of cough syrup (that only gave me some relief 50% of the time), so I opt to go to Urgent Care. The doctor at UC did more for me in an 1.5 hours than Dr. Tan did for me anytime I saw or spoke to her. I should have gone to UC to begin with, and I could have been better by now. Instead, I wasted time and money, and missed 5 days of work. Unbelievable. I did get a call back from Dr. Tan's receptionist after my UC visit on late Wednesday, and their suggestion for my severe cough and lack of sleep was NyQuil. Wow. Needless to say, I will never be a patient of Dr. Tan's again. read more

FYI My family knows other patients who have had miserable experiences at this office. One friend's issue was just a few weeks ago. Maybe some day they'll share their stories via Yelp too. As per my original review, Dr. Tan is very nice. Maybe that comment can ease Paula's "confusion." It's always nice when another reviewer mentions me in their review; brings more attention to my honest review. Competence and her specialist referrals are major issues with Dr. Tan. It is very sad that I've learned Dr. Tan is still referring patients to a surgeon whom she knows injured me and who treated me with absolute disrespect. Repeat...sad. Yes, as per a long telephone chat with the nice doctor, she bad-mouthed a specialist's office. Sorry- that only leads my family to believe there is an incentive/agenda regarding specialists. Need I say more? A serious issue with Dr. Tan is in regards to test results. Regarding just one test result, a mammogram... Dr. Tan either: A) Did not bother to read a mammogram report at all B) Completely MISread the report The feedback she told me about the mammogram report was normal; no breast lump(s). Nope...mammogram test result was not OK. Far from OK. Thank goodness I got my hands on that report myself and read it correctly; two breast lumps. That information was clearly posted on the test result. Wow. Need proof? I have all records copies...absolutely. Tidbit- that example is just one of several test results issues we had. I'll happily elaborate again if needed. I feel there is also too much medication prescribing at this office. During most every long wait in the lobby, there were a few to many medication representatives coming and going from this office. Honestly, we have never seen anything quite like that in any other doctor's office. As per another recent review that issue was mentioned too. Sometimes pill-popping is NOT the resolve to health issues. Actually, taking unnecessary medications can do more harm to a body. Ha...as Dr. Tan told me during one office visit, with the knowledge I've gathered via my own medical research, maybe I truly should become a doctor. On that note, I will offer praise to nice Dr. Tan because she was always appreciative of documents I toted with me regarding my health issues. Some doctors hate it when the patients is informative about medical issues.Dr. Tan did appreciate how involved I was in my health care. Keep that in mind. I am honestly trying to save others via my medical experiences... the good and not good. And the specialist issue was also mentioned by another reviewer a couple days ago. This is obviously not an isolated issue with my family. To those who are patient's here, I can not stress enough the importance of being copied on ALL test results. This is a mixed review. Dr Tan is cheerful and kind. I thought she was great when I was for the most part healthy and only had a cold or the flu or needed an annual exam. However, I became super sick and she prescribed several different medicines that were basically cover ups of the real problem and sent me to several specialists. I continued to be very sick. My husband was super angry because he felt she just pushed me off with yet another medicine. It wasn't until my chiropractor recommended Avenues for Health in Danville, that I finally got the care I needed. Thank god for AforH!!! I can't really recommend Dr Tan.
